You saved me with this video! 😅 I was freaking out thinking I was going to have to spend hundreds for a trunk replacement or something, and found your video, and had the exact same problem as seen in this video, and I reconnected the broken wire and got my trunk back. Thank you for uploading this video, you’re a life saver!
I am literally laying in my trunk right now watching this video. Exact same issue… nasty cords, exposed wire spots and probably the same broken wire… great video!
Wow thanks man! I decided to help out a customer here at my work and i didn't want our shop to charge a diag fee so i decided to look up a quick fix and found your video and a broken wire, crimped the wires together and sent her on her way as happy as can be! 😎😎😎
This video saved me a ton of money. Thank you. But my trunk problem was a little different. It opened about 2 times out of 10 tries with the key fob. I was getting constant TRUNK AJAR alerts every time I put the transmission in drive/reverse or stepped on the brakes. My auto door locks were also activating constantly.....about 3-4 times a second. I had to pull over on a long drive home and open/close the trunk to get the short circuit to stop. I was also seeing the dome light in the trunk dim and brighten when the trunk lid moved up and down. I heard a slight buzzing from the trunk latch whenever I opened it while the ignition was on. I unwound the trunk wire harness and saw the broken black and white wire. The wrap was keeping it together enough to cause a short circuit and not a complete trunk failure. I used a butt splice connector after stripping the wiring insulation and it solved all of the issues 100%. Two other wires had some stripped insulation so I put electrical tape over them. The stripping seems to have occurred due to the too-tight zip tie from the Ford factory. I installed a new tie with a bigger loop to take tension off of the wiring harness. If a wire short circuit or wire break happens to anyone on a long drive and the auto door locks keeping firing over and over again, there are online procedures and RU-vid videos that show how you can turn the feature off until you can repair the wire.
This was happening to me as well. Fixing the wire solved all issues. I has another issue about a year earlier where my trunk would open unintentionally, usually when unlocking or locking the car, opening and closing doors, or starting the car. I ignored that issue long enough and it went away, but it may have been due to the wires starting to fail.
Ford Focus 2013 wires snapped, disconnecting the key fob, the latch, and console button release and trying to connect them myself without taking to dealer
Thanks mate! Had the same issue with the 2011 model. And, there was a short circuit between the reverse light and boot ejector cable. So, when the car was in reverse gear, the boot used to pop up randomly ( which was funny). Fixed it now. Thanks a lot!
I was about 2 years too!! Thank god it wasnt a $200 latch from ford ... congrats .. I just finally got mine fixed too.. broken wires!! Very visible.. i feel like a dummy!!
Good video, but I'd reccomend checking the wire first, because that is the most likely problem. In other videos about this problem it was mentioned that this is a design flaw which causes the wires to eventually break. Also, instead of following the wiring, just look at the area where they connect to the trunk latch (behind the right side hinge). And finally, unless you have a solder and are good with it, just crimp the wires together and cover with isolating tape.
Problem with my 2018 is the dash button opens trunk and the key fob does to just the button on the trunk lid don't work. Any idea ? Or could it be same issue ?
My wiring in that same area is a hit mess. Almost all the wires are brittle and/or frayed in at least one spot. Almost feel like a new rear harness is the safe play!
So I have a bunch of wires broken. There’s some that match up. But also there’s some that look the same like two grey and two black I don’t know which one goes to each other
@@TutorialGeek so, it is possible to remove only the fuse and to do this? I am asking this because it is to complicated to disconnect the battery. Thank you for your video tutorial and helping me out.
Can you give an update? For me, I followed this tutorial many times to fix it, but it seems the problem comes came once or twice every year. It’s definitely due to a bad design, or the wire being too short. What has been your experience with this repair over the years?
I have had to fix it one more time since I made this video. I found that I had to get better wiring and splice the wiring in a way so that the new (better) wire is in the area where it repeatedly bends. Yep. Horrible design. Perhaps the only thing I don't like about my car.
Every wire was frayed. I rewired the ones that were color coded but there are 3 or 4 small black ones left to connect only thing got work is dome in trunk
Great video I know you are doing a video but you should have taken it back to the main dealership that’s not a ware and tare item that’s a factory issue of a loom being wrongly routed
Thanks, great video but my problem is bigger than one wire. I have a Ford Focus 2012. except one black and one green wire all of them are disconnected. I don't know which black wire goes to which one. Only the plate light and white light ( backward lights) work. The car gives error for brake bulb light and compartment door error. The trunk door can not be opened by botton or manually. not open with I checked the voltage on the wires, two of the black wire have voltage all the times. I am wonder anyone know how I can find out what those wires are? Thanks
My problem is different it opens only after i start the car. The moment i close and lock the car with the remote it won't open after i unlock the doors with the remote
I have a 2014 Ford Focus se and my license plate light went out so I ordered a new module with the light and trunk release button and put it on and it still doesn’t work what should I do? Is there a fuse for it ?
Man same shit is happening to me my horn or alarm doesn’t sound when I press the fob it’s crazy I pulled the tape off and one of the wires are broke gotta figure out how to do what I just seen you do lol
