You guys should be ashamed! It's completely irresponsible to dismantle and work on chainsaws while drinking alcoholic beverages! I'd limit the drinking to when one is actually using the chainsaw for it's intended purpose, ideally while climbing ladders or trees.... 🚫Just joking🚫

Thanks Steve!! Am working on a Ryobi 10 inch battery chainsaw that is not oiling. This video was GREAT in confirming that the oil was indeed getting from the oil reservoir to the chain through the weep hole. Now know for sure that it is a problem with the bar!! Starting cleaning the channel of the bar and was packed full of dry grass. Slow and steady and making progress!! Also working on my other Ryobi battery chainsaw (I have 2) that got tangled up in some hay twine that someone did not throw away.. lots of tiny little fibers caught up in the bar channel. I have dedicated work clothes set aside for chainsaw work-- the bar oil sure is goopy stuff.

My was not working so I cleaned bar as suggested and no change but it was a bit dirty so probably good to do as routine maintenance. What I found on my saw was the filter was covered with a white substance, maybe had some sawdust in oil not sure, I’m really super careful when filling with oil not to get something in the tank. I dumped it out cleaned the filter washed tank out with gas and now it oils like a champ.thanks for video as it led me in the right direction and now I know how it works, not very complicated.

Another good video Steve, if possible clean your saw after each cutting session. Compressed air is nice as it makes the job easier. Clean the bar slot as Steve mentioned, just don’t slide something in the slot that will widen that gap. Also check the oiling port hole on the saw for cleanliness while the bar is off. Always use bar & chain oil, other oil can cause issues. Thanks Steve, from the USA-eh!

Oh, I made a grave mistake, I listen to a dummy. He said I could use used motor oil for bar oil. Will I found that after doing so it got clogged and hot. So I put gas in bar oil spout. Put cap on and shook the hell outta it. To loosen and debris. Then dumped it out really good. Did it twice to get it cleaned out. I hope I got it all. I will check tomorrow to see if oiler is coming out freely or maybe it's plugged. Hope not. After listening to someone I thought knew what he was talking about, I decided your tube videos are much more helpful. Thank you!

Just unplugged an oil hole in a chainsaw bar today. That´s why i came back to this video. Your videos really are helping! Will run the saw tomorrow to see if it sprays oil at a piece of cardboard like you showed. (For your information: I tried to buy stuff from your amazon store, like the lawn mower blade balancer, but it won´t ship to me. Seems to be because i live in europe and you link to a north american amazon store. I couldn´t get it to work for me. European amazon ships to me just fine, but not from your store. So maybe you could link to different stores for the different continents or something. When it comes to computer/internet stuff i´m not the brightest knife in the shed though, so maybe it´s just me...)

This might sound sorta obvious, but make sure you use a lighter bar oil if you're working in winter weather. Summer oil turns to molasses in the cold and you could easily assume there's something wrong with your saw. Bring it in the house, warm it up for half a day until the oil flows, then dump it out and replace it with the proper winter oil.

I had the same problem and did not have the specialized tool to disassemble the chainsaw to get to the oil pump. Was going to make the tool but though to myself "just one more vid", low and behold my chain wasn't getting any oil because i have a spacer plate which doesn't seat properly so all the oil drains down behind it, i dug around the garage and all my "rvt" silicone that i had used for previous "projects" have dried up but i found some marine silicone that hadn't dried up completely yet so i used it. It hasn't cured yet but i can already see that it makes a complete seal, the bolt is only finger tight now, tomorrow once it's cured I'll tighten it and off to the races! Ironically i bough the chainsaw at an "off the truck sale" and it was a demo or returned item deemed 100% fine, i was quite disgruntled about my purchase until this vid. Well played sir. Mag dit reen waar jou bokke wei.

Steve great tip. I bought a used Makita EA6100P chainsaw and noticed it sprayed ALOT of oil. After removing the chain, I used that first tool you showed and ran it in the groove in the guide bar and found alot of gunk! I re-adjusted the oiler from max to a medium setting, works correctly now but it took a week for all that oil to stop leaking!

The little oiler hole was at the bottom of the blade, not at the top where the oil come out. Yes the blade was right side up according to the brand lettering. . I burned up one blade and chain because of this manufacturing defect. I flipped the blade over and it works great. This was on a Stihl MS170

Thanks for the video! Sometimes it's the simplest things that can cause the biggest problems. Cleaning that little hole in the bar was the tip I needed. Thanks again! Cooter

Great video and instruction. The Sthil MS 180 chainsaw has two holes at the clutch end of the blade. Turning the machine on with no blade was a good start to see that it was pumping out oil. I cleaned out the channel on the blade with a scraper, the little screw driver that Sthil provides and a paper clip. There is a hole between the blade channel and the blade hole that was full of sawdust.

Pretty sure I just "thumbs upped" a video as the result of the subject's request to do so for the first time. I've noticed my husky not doing a great job lately, between this video, the one about cutting crooked, & the impending rain tomorrow I think I know one job I'll be tackling in the shop. Thank you Steve!

My 1999 029 farm boss has a reversable chain bar with 2 oil holes.....the bar had a groove rubbed in the bar from the plastic oiler cover pressed against the bar for 20 years.....it has a small raised lip around the oil passage hole and it rubbed thru the paint and into metal making a small gap letting oil go down beside the clutch bell while running and also make chain run hot....tip for the day.....inspect closely when looking at this 😊
