Really enjoy your video's as I try to do any/all maintenance on my stuff. The high cost and PITA of taking equipment somewhere conflicts with my DIY nature. Besides, once you see how relatively simple most things are you save money and have the satisfaction of fixing it yourself! Kudos for a great channel.
Had a guy come in with his mower once mad as a hornet saying it was a piece of crap. He said it just stopped running and refused to start again. It was out of gas.
I just want to tell you what a breath of fresh air your videos are. Too many others are examples of how to turn a five-minute short into a half hour torture drill. They digress with talking about the weather, what the wife fixed for dinner last night, needing to mow the lawn, etc. Or, they leave the camera running while they rummage through their cluttered workshop looking for a screw or some misplaced part. One guy's narrative was completely drowned out by a TV soap opera blaring in the background. I just cringe when they ask the viewer if you "can see this" when their camera is 25 feet away. It's enough to cause a migrane. I really appreciate how you get right to the point and begin with a diagnostic/troubleshooting premise, offer helpful problem solving techniques, and then conclude with the steps you take to complete the solution.
Great video lesson. Just watch out that you don't damage your wedding ring. I would take that off while working on machines, but that's your choice. Your vids are great and this is another in the collection. Thanks much!👍
Great but surprising how many owners don t do simple checks.I have a regular tree surgery co they run everything till its jad it.I have to charge for cleaning the equipment on top of the bill.
it needs to be spelled out: most chain saws are built to go through most of a tank of bar oil every time it goes through a tank of gas. don't just check the oil; top it off, and if it went through significantly less than a tank, check to find out why. and I always say: buying a cheap grade of oil (rhymes with burex) reduces your oil usage, but I've found it cooks your bar and chain because it doesn't lubricate as well as buying a good brand of oil from your saw shop.
Another good informative video. Great job. I am on disability and I can't repair stuff fast enough to make good money. But if the preson is not in a hurry I will try and help them out. I picked up a set or the carburetor adjustment screw drivers from your affiliate link. I had a few of them already. However 2 of them cost more then the entire set. Now I am good to go. Thanks for all you do to help us out.
I have this exact saw. Cold starts are two or three pulls on some days after it warms up one pull monster. Other days 10 pull restart turd . Seams like 1 pull lasts all day,as does 10 pulls frustrating.
Hi from the UK. I love your videos and I'm working my way through them from oldest to newest. I've learned so much already, thanks for that. However; in this video, when you got down to exposing the oiler and oil pipes you said that the oil lines looked ok but because this was a warranty repair you were going to replace them anyway........but you didn't, and you didn't mention them again. Sorry, but I'm a stickler for detail. Keep the videos coming though.
Do you know of an easy way to get the worm gear back on an Echo CS-400? Its a pressed fit. I was able to make a puller to get it off to install crank seals but can't get it back on.🤣😃
I greatly enjoy your videos, thanks,,,,,Now. I am having great difficulty removing the worm gear could you recommend a puller or technique to get that bugger off. Echo cs400
Thank you for the great video. I'm working on my cs-440 echo and the washer thet covers the worm gear seems to be stuck to the crank shaft. it's 19 years old. I loostened the pump and I can jamb a small screwdriver inthe crack and I can pull the rope. I saw you easily remove with a knife blade. Any tips on getting that washer off?? Thank you
I have a lawnmower with a Briggs & Stratton mansion, no problem is, it starts and runs OK first time out but if you stop it to do something very difficult to start again. Also when starting at the first time he starts very slow takes time to pick up speed. I have clean the carburetor and checked all the other components. I don't understand why when it's first starts it takes time to pick up speed.
When I was a teen and became an expert lumberjack (NOT, but I was trusted to know everything about its use and allowed to cut) we had a McCulloh yellow/black thinghy and it had a thumb knob next to the handle that oiled the chain. Very trustworthy mechainism if you were conscious to use it right so the chain wouldn't turn purple/blue) With later saws I purchased the oil pump was invented and I still miss that manual knob. It is always a concern, is it oil is it not? I guess if you see smoke coming out of the log it is not!
My son's has an over oiling problem. I know his cs400 has a adjustment screw but it doesn't seem to make any difference. It only has about 3/4 or a turn. Is that normal?
Are those plastic gears known to crap out often? I have a 355t with just 3 tanks of gas through it that just stopped oiling. Bought it from treestuff and now echo won't warranty it because treestuff isn't an authorized dealer. Let me register it on their site though. Probably gonna fix it and sell it off and go back to Stihl. My first and last echo product. A company should stand behind a product that has their name on it period 🤷♂️.
Just went to move my cs 590 and noticed big oil spot where it was sitting. Looks like adjustment screw backed Itself out and now it is lost somewhere. It sounds like I got to buy the whole pump to fix it. Spring is still there if I'm able to find screw can I just put it back in? Is the screw a tapered?
Have you ever worked on 78 john deere?I bought one to work on cause it's a deere but was wondering if there is a bigger bar that would fit on it and if you heard how good they are
You make the easiest to understand videos. Kudos are in order for all of your hard work. You should be very proud of yourself. I look forward to each video.
Thank you for really well made videos! I managed to dismantle my electric chainsaw that leaked baroil just to see that both hoses were cut. I have now managed to put it all together but I still don't get oil on the chain. Am I not patient enough as I don't want to run the chain too long to break it? How long does it take?
Tank You sow much madam really apreciate You help i'm jungle guide and i bring the echo chaisaw from usa to ecuador and i got oil no working tnik is pump
Nice instructions and steps😀🇦🇺 PS: Cardboard on the floor keeps it clean for checking oiling chain, leaving a nice trail of oil easy to see on cardboard if working properly.
I had a employee get saw pinched and instead of using a or asking for help, he pulled as hard as he could and ripped off the bolt that holds bar on saw. Its practically a new saw can it be repaired? Shop I took it to said no. I was just going to epoxy a new Bolt on but I'm not sure what size to use
Please can u explain how to tighten spark plug in depth in your future videos. For example i have a torque wrench at home but when im on field i have struggle with how much torque i need to tight spark plug. Also it is better to tight spark plug when the chainsaw is cold but whati if when engine is hot? etc... tnx
nice video but you didn't explain the part if the oil gear wasn't melted what to do if the oil gear inside was there still and what could be the other causes and what to do if something else was the problem
hi, i have a stihl 291 that is not oiling. i have replaced the oiler. nope no oil. the chain will get so tight that it will stop the stop. i feel i have done every thing and ready to shoot to it . please help me out. thank you.
Have a question about chain saws, chain and bars. I have on occasion found that I can no longer tighten the chain. Ran out of adjustment. How can I tell if the bar is worn out or the chain is worn out. Teeth on chain are good and sharp and cutting fine up to that point. Oiler and chain have been oiling fine. Have turned over bar. Have installed new bar and that seemed to fix everything. Is this an indication that the bar was just worn out? How long will a chain last? There is some play in the chain links. At what point is the chain worn out and or unsafe to use. I use my saws a lot for my outdoor wood burner. Thanks for your shows. You do a great job and have learned a lot. Do most all maintenance myself.
This video helped me figure out what was wrong with my Poulan poll saw. Turns out the blade was just clogged up. Thankfully, I didn't have to replace or tear into it any more.
On the old McCullogh saws, I am finding that whenever the fuel lines are rotted, the oil line probably is also rotted. Some of the oil lines are a pain to reach.
Thx for the infos! I'm in CE and am preparing for the cold and dark times to come. Therefore I recently bought a small - 12 " bar - electro powered chainsaw for possibly necessary "firewood raids". On which I cannot use those loudly screaming fuel motor saws ...
my friend has some regular blowers hand blowers and stuff that will not run and I'm normally good at fixing them and getting things to run and everything but I just haven't been having any luck with them
Thanks for sharing. I have made an observation about this saw. I noticed insufficient oil so I took it to my dealer for diagnostics and sharpen chain. Still not oiling so I took it back and they announced that it was fine. I sawed some more, still very little oil. After watching your video, I removed the cover to find much oily debris inside, none, or not much, on the chain. my analysis revealed that, since there is no outer guard (the thin steel piece found against the body of the saw), oil is allowed to pass through the bar, and into the brake/tensioning system. The plastic cover doesn't block this passage as there is open webbing it this location. I will fabricate a thin metal plate (like every other saw I've seen is equipped with), install it and report back. I found no diagrams that pictured this part. Thanks for the confidence. Nice job.
This was a very helpful video. Thanks for taking the time to make it. If the chainsaw has to be stored for a long period of time, how could you prevent the bar chain oil from freezing in the pump and stripping the teeth of the pump? I have changed 2 pumps on my 026 and I barely use the saw. Now I have the same issue with my echo cs-341.
First time viewing a Chickanic video and I was very impressed. She kept things simple and real world for us occasional mechanic like myself. I picked up a couple of good pointers about diagnosing problems as well as how to disassemble and reassemble the chainsaw. Very impressed - 5 Stars from me!
Maybe you've done this, but a video on doing the warranties... Definitely worth doing. Had a power head replaced for a Shop-vac and a Ryobi pole saw to name a couple.
