Thank you, thank you, thank you. Just what I needed. I watched your vid about 20 times while waiting for the part to arrive and I took all parts off the cassette and gave it a thorough clean. Once it arrived I was ready for it and managed to get the float in first go! Not bad for an old girl like me.
Well done Susan ! It's a tricky job but you did it. I said to my father , I'm going to make a video about this because there aren't many out there showing you what to do, so I'm glad that it's helping other people like yourself and hopefully many more too.
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures Like Susan I have just done all the cleaning & service tips in your video whilst awaiting the replacement to arrive from Jacksons Leisure. Luckily I noticed the rattle on the final empty before setting off back home yesterday. I could see it lying in the bottom of the tank and yes!, I had given it an upside down shake over the Elsan point. Very relieved to have found and watched your video. I may not be far from you in South Ribble . Is it bevel face down then? Thanks, Dave W.
Hello Dave, from memory it had a flat face to go in line with the wall side. I am so surprised with how common this problem is and that they make such a flimsy part. I hope it goes back in for you ok. And yes you are not too far from me. I cycle out from my neck of the Pennines to the Ribble Valley quite a lot .
Thank god for you, we have been doing close trips from home on weekends and calling them our "Learning Trips" - I had issues trying to get the cassette to click back in after emptying and figured it was something to do with the orange cover cap on the caravan end not opening properly. I ended up doing a full clean and unfortunately didn't get the memo about not shaking the hell out of the cassette when flushing after emptying so found myself with exactly the issue you described. I too took out a second mortgage and ordered a replacement float and after lubrication and lots of coaxing finally got it back in using your twist and click method. The things you can find on the Tube - cheers
I love RU-vid for this very reason Mark and thought that I would try to help others out as there wasn't much advice on how to fix this unit. Thanks for commenting and wishing you some happy times ahead at the elsan point
Thanks for that...excellent video. I removed the lug and drilled it out...then replaced it with stainless steel. used two lock nuts and glue. Put camera inside to help reattach...all good. Here in Australia, the float is between $50 and $80 .
I'm just trying to track a float down...currently in TAS but about to head back in a week to VIC...the float is important to me but not to other half - we also need some seals/rings which are more important!!
Cheers - this is the only video I could find on the lights not working - not sure if the float is broken but we now know how to service the cassette properly to find out!!
Thanks! We're hoping it will help too!! The lights stopped a couple of weeks agon and we've tried to sort it via the "manual" which didn't show us how to get the top off...doh! It also took a bit of effort to find your video - would you mind if I put it up on a couple of FB pages that I follow? Note I will screenshot rather than link as that's the "rules" @@MrDazP1adv3ntures
By all means share the link to the video on your page. The caravan season starts next weekend so we need as many people as possible to be aware of this issue.
Cheers...I'm actually in Australia...Tasmania to be precise...about to go back to the mainland in a week and into more remote areas!@@MrDazP1adv3ntures
Interesting, I follow a guy called Tazzy T who goes out into remote places in Tazmania on his quad bike looking for gold and wild camping with his mates
Many thanks for the video. Just this morning I gave my Dometic cassette a good old shake to flush it out and the float broke off..... So now after watching your excellent video I can get a new one and replace it. No more shaking after this, just gentle swills...
Superb video and detailed instructions - I would never have worked out how to take the slider mechanism off without this - replaced my float in minutes - very happy 😁 thank you!!!
Thanks for a great video. Our new (6 year old) motor home's cassette overflowed with no warning lights on our first night away. After watching your video I thought I had the very same problem but guess what ? The float just had some old toilet paper wrapped around it! A good clean and now works perfectly!
Thanks for the video Daz - you were spot on in all aspects of the repair! I think someone may have listened to you because there is a little bit more support around the lugs on the replacement part than there was on the one that broke! Great job mate
Thanks 👍 Frank, I was evening thinking about this last week whilst on holiday at the caravan. The thought did cross my mind that the float could even be damaged whilst you walk with it on the uneven surfaces to the elsan point.
Very helpful video thank you! Float on mine not broken but wanted to give the seals etc a good clean and this vid showed very clearly how to take the cassette apart - brill!
Amazing video thanks. Followed it step by step and successfully replaced a broken float on our Dometic 4110. Clear, concise instructions and bonus info on greasing the rubber seals. Just the right Type of “how to video”.
Thanks for the feedback Dan, I'm glad it helped you, I had a look on line and couldn't find another video so thought I would give it a go. Happy flushing from now on
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures thanks mate. Also you may have already done it, but I found greasing the middle / centre seal in the main hole is a great idea too.
Great video. I strengthened my new float arm by filling the small voids round the two lugs with 2 part epoxy but not too much to stop it pivoting properly. No problems ever since & it stands a shake too. I always use silicone grease (regularly) in the two metal slider arms as these are what makes opening the slider much easier 😉
Thanks for watching Paul, it's a common and easily broken part . I got my old porta potty out for a camping trip the other day. It's over 20 years old. Oh The joys of cassette toilets hey !
Well done mate that was as good a service video as I've seen, thanks. I was a little disappointed though after your 3rd attempt at trying to fit the float by feel I thought I was going to see your hand holding the float go in through the out funnel hole and your head appear inside the main hole looking directly at the float fixing point! Maybe next time.....
Thanks for the comments Topher, it's a flimsy piece of plastic and tricky to fit with limited space to get in there. Hope it helped with any issues with your cassette toilet. Cheers.
My float broke. Bought replacement, cost just over £32. Decided to repair old float. Bought a piece of 4mm x 50mm plastic road. {enough for 2 repairs at 25mm}: 1 x 3.8mm drill: 25ml epoxy resin. Total cost £9.84. Bonus, next repair, {if needed}, cost free. We carry a spare cassette for wild camping etc.
That's great news Derek, I have had to do a few running repairs over the years on my caravans. Some of the parts are expensive too. Thanks for sharing.
That's one good job you have done there mate. Glad you took that job on and not me those lugs would of come off definitely. Love the ending makes it more real buddy as if its not real enough.
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures who cares if it's washed as a kids god know what my hands were in am still here lol enjoyed it keep it up there's no panning on lock down and I appreciate you kept your channel going some have given up
I need to do more of the "How to fix" kind of videos. I am working on an air pistol strip down and boy oh boy. There was some cursing and swearing going on. There isn't one out there on RU-vid so I need to get it right and take my time to try to show others how it can be done. Cheers pal, I see Jon from south Wales has subscribed to you. We found each other a few years ago now from RU-vid.
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures yes iv watched a few of Jon's videos and love his van in the warm weather I sit out getting the sun so I carch up on social media and RU-vid on days like today. As regards the air pistol your the man like you say its getting it right. If I do delicate jobs iv always extra bits left over or one piece that stops it all coming together lol
At the end of the day PPE just gives you a psychological advantage when undertaking these kind of jobs. I did a job on my van last year when the seal perished on my Thetford toilet and it's not a pleasant experience. Anyway what are you thinking of setting up a channel about. Van life is massive at the moment
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures search YT for pizza ramblings. That's mine with just over 100 subs in 5 months. I also have a FB group with 1.3k members. Pizza is the hobby, then I've taken to making the videos and editing. Love it.
I've never seen the point of the float as unless your eyesight is particularly poor it's quite easy to see how full the cassette is. If and when mine breaks I doubt if I'll bother replacing it.
Awesome video thanks mate. Any suggestions for how to adjust when the half fill indicator comes on? I am finding that the cassette is very full (Heavy) even before the half full light is on.
Thanks for the comment Surfnpics. The best advice I could give on this matter is to work on the averages. I found that these kind of cassettes filled pretty quickly - within two days of normal use (Peeing only) and including the flush. By this time they were getting close to being emptied regardless. It's not just the pee, it's the flush that fills em up.. My view on the matter was to get to know the general status of the holding tank from normal use, then empty it before it was too late.
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures id say yes after Wednesday as, long as you use social distancing but it'll be busy, I'll be going somewhere with no proven gold just for the fun.
Hey mate you are legend. I have samiliar issues the water level light doesn’t flash to indicate..so annoying. I have checked the float and it seems works properly. I wonder what else could the issue be??😅
Is this near Anglezarke , there was a Roman lead mine there. There is also places in the Trough of B.......where the monks mined for lead. Let us know how you get on.
@@stevejonesgoldmonster2423 I haven't read what the Welsh are saying though. Be mindful of cars aledgedly getting damaged by 'accident' . I will give it a bit longer until we are in the clear.
It's more clearer now daz. We are thinking the hodder for an activity day for the little man he is autistic and has been confined for too long. Water day for him is a needed activity.
@@stevejonesgoldmonster2423 The Hodder is a nice River , we cycle that way a lot. There is an old bridge called Cromwell's bridge on the Hodder. Another good place is on the Ribble near Ribchester.
I think the magnet is part of the sensor to stop the flush working when it is full so it won't over fill. What is the round piece, I would have to watch it again
I bought a dometic toilet, within a few months the flush system failed, shortly after that the spout on the cassette fell off and went down the sewage dump point. The slide on the toilet is always very stiff and I'm worried it's going to snap, ill be in trouble if that happens, Always trying to lubricate the mechanism but it doesn't help, won't be able to use it, having enough trouble repairing the issues now. Contacted dometic and they didn't seem to give a dam about the problems. Looks like i may have to throw this $700 one out and buy a decent toilet.
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures needs to be engineered better and people should know about it. Then we might get a better product. Thanks and good luck in your travels, and may your dunny never let you down.
Is there a blockage in the line or an air lock ? Or is there a valve in the closed position after winter storage. Is the pump polarity the correct way. It could be pushing not pulling water...
