Hey David. Thanks for the tip. Just wanted to point out, if you didn't know, on ADPTR, there's a section that allows you to do the referencing trick you shared using Pro-Q3 EQ. You can set the filters to your liking and use the referencing that way. That might save some time for workflow. If you did know that already, please disregard
BOlupona Thanks, man! I did, BUT if I remember correctly it doesn’t allow you to tighten the slope quite as steep as I like to. How’s mixing treating you lately?
@@TheMixAcademy Ah that makes sense. Never really thought about the steepness of the slope. Mixing has been treating me well. Been enjoying my combination of subpac, with the sonarworks for headphones. Glad to have you back on social media sharing these awesome tips and knowledge!!!
I´m so happy to see you back again David! I started to do music about 3 years ago and found your channel. Since then, you have always been such an inspiration sharing your great personality and knowledge. I hope many more will find their way to your channel soon because you really deserve loads of followers!
thats my little struggle... the harsh freq... everytime i cut it seems to mee im loosing details on vocals... even dynamic cut doesn't has the effect im looking for... ill try tomorrow the range of 3 to 5 khz... thx for this lil tutorial 👌
I am of the same school as you. Mix LOW volume. On all 3 or4 sets of speakers you have. 86db (up to 92) if poss. I had in Cleveland, a killer sound room of a floating floor and walls. Serious "dead room" using movable GoBos with 2 kinds of finish. (glad to send you pics) One side typical wood paneling the other side drape-able with various hangable carpets, tiles, finishes. BTW (our tech friend worked at NASA just up the road and got me in to see and walk into the Anechoic Chamber! SO dead you can hear your heart beat and more! When you can hear EVERYTHING in the recording at a low volume one can be assured at 100db+ it solidly blows the walls down! Using a mastering matching software to finalize your offering is nice to use ...after, if you need to verify. After a while like YOU are now..it comes out in the wash if you know your gear. Or know how it responds. Great offerings...keep it up or we'll hurt cha bad!
Well I just cottoned onto this for myself, as a novice mixer. My mixes were a bloodbath of harshness around 2-5khz. I was in there on the suspect tracks carving out the areas I thought were troublesome for that particular instrument...hello amp sim guitars for a start...hello 2khz. Nothing was working. In the end, in frustration I put a multiband on the master at around 3khz...totally mellowed the harshness. But I don't think this is the best solution. Better is getting better tracks to start with...or maybe applying multiband on individual tracks. I dunno though. I'm just stumbling around in the dark here.
Better tracks always make things easier but anytime you go to boost top-end keep an eye on that frequency range (2-5kHz) and you may need to dip a bit to offset the boosts above or even slightly below that range. Thanks for watching!
Only the stereobuss and only as a crutch towards the end of the process from time to time. I’m getting better about not relying on it but it still creeps in on me. Haha
