Hi ojmathews Thanks you for your kind comments and for visiting my channel this is what my RU-vid channel is all about helping people who want to lean and do there own mechanics Thanks Richard
Brilliant video I am currently trying to fix my little guys quad and I think this video just made it all clear thanks man although I will much rather bring the bike to you.....
I have rebuild a quad and when the spark plug is out it's easy to pull over but when I put the spark plug back in it's really still to pull over. P.s love the videos
Hi Richard, Thanks to your video I've managed to strip the carb down clean it and the quad now starts but in doing so it now doesn't idle. It goes for straight full throttle power. What have I done wrong ?
awesome skills - thanks! - (one question though - what happens if this happens again - is it debris from the tank - or more to the point - how could you/one prevent this from happening again? - thanks!)
Hi Gus thank you for your kind comment…to prevent this happening again buy a in line filter ( they are cheap on eBay ) and put it in line from the tank to the carburettor ( basically where the fuel pipe comes from the tank to the carburettor fit a filter in the pipe one side from the tank then fit the pipe for the carburettor the other side if it does not want to start again or it hogs when you Rev the quad / bike then just change the fuel filter simples 👍
Hey mate. Ive taken bottom of carb off, and air filter. Both are dry. Ive replaced spark plug and its still not starting. Fuel line/hose has decent flow. Any idea why it won't start? It started before for a few seconds n cut out. Quad is a real pain man! That old quad u have is easier to work with. To get into the carb, there is a bar at the back wheels that block it off. So had to take the big screw out to get into it then chain came off. Real pain in the behind this one
Hi Mr Smith you say your carburettor is dry do you mean there’s no fuel in fuel bowel ???.....what I would do is make sure the carburettor is correctly on ...then take the spark plug out and put a little bit of petrol in the hole / bore put spark plug back in and then try and start ...if it starts then quickly dies you then know it’s fuel related ...I’m not sure what your vehicle is ..moped / or motorcycle if it’s a scooter I would be checking that the petcock is working correctly ..Check my videos on how to do this ...or could even be the fuel tap filter ..hope that helps
@@richardshomemechanics5566 its a mini quad mate. So i had this problem from day one. Taken a while to start then it eventually did. However it only lasted a while before it cut out. Then from there on it wouldnt start and when it would itd cut out within 5 seconds. The fuel does reach the bottom of the carb, and i have drained it and so on. I put a brand new spark plug in, and new inline fuel filter. I then blew through the jet of the carb because i couldn't see daylight through it properly. After blowing through it, i could see through it properly. But, i checked the air filter to see if it was coated in oil or anything else but it was dry, and the carb looked pretty clean. Its only been used one time so its very strange. The fuel i used originally to start it could have been contaminated. However since then, the carb has been drained and cleaned, and fuel filter was replaced, and I've used new petrol. Well.. its only a couple week old. 2 stroke. I did empty a little into the engine yesterday and it started and cut out within a second or two
@@jsmith3966 …….Strip the fuel tap, it has a rubber grommet type control system and it may be crushed and while you’re at it, make sure the holes in the casting is allowing fuel to flow through. Remember these are cheap machines and the quality of the materials is questionable. The fuel tap has been the problem on a number of machines.
Hi, my mini bike starts to run, without touching the throttle, it’s won’t stop running either, even when I press the kill switch and turn off the ignition. After a new minutes it eventually cuts out by itself, but I need to hold the breaks until it does so. Do you have any ideas what this issue could be please?
Hi Andrew If you are saying that the bike starts to Rev while you are not using the throttle it certainly sounds like you have a issue with your carburetor it may be that the throttle slide is sticking and not dropping back into the bottom of the carburetor hence making it Rev higher Regards Richard
@@richardshomemechanics5566 Hi Richard, thanks for the reply. I removed the Air filter and could see the throttle slide was stuck half way down in the carburettor. pressing the throttle it full opened but would then only drop half way when released. There's a bolt, thread on the end of the throttle cable which joins to the carburettor, which I tightened up and it solved the problem, the slide now fully closes. Out of interest, should the pin move up and down too? That did seem to move when I pressed the throttle. Thanks again, Andy
