Advice from someone who is a certified asphalt inspector with the state of Oregon: clear your large chunks from the pot hole in question. With Cold Mix AC you can get away with having water in the pot hole but if you're using Hot Mixed AC then you need to make sure that your pot hole has dried completely. When doing Hot Mixed AC you want to hot saw your pothole into a square/rectangle shape; this minimize the chances to have a failure on your raked edge. For every inch you need to add 1/4 of an inch to compensate for compaction (i.e 2 inch deep pot hole you need an additional 1/2 inch for compaction.) Never a bad idea to saw cut your pot holes square when doing cold mix patching but you've probably gotten to a point where you don't care and just want to get it done so whatever I guess.

Glad we aren't the only ones that deal with that here in the US. In the county I live in currently, all the priority is placed on new construction, or the road infrastructure to support more housing which in all honesty is being done well and on time, but all the old construction get's ignored untill its to the point of entire dilapidation, and when they decide to actually repair a pothole, it takes like 2 weeks of road detours and road work zones that never seem to actually have any work going on.

You all do realize that usually when those guys are leaning on shovels part of it is they are tired and hot from doing physical work. So kids, pay attention and make sure you do well in school and land a job in a fortune 500 company or start your own company/business. I work for a fortune 500 company (ranked in the top 40 actually), but cut those guys some slack. What is the fixing element in it? As a constructor, all I can think is: How will this look in two years? First of all, leaving all the dirt on the bottom, this material can´t stick to the underground, the dirt will act as a layer of interface. And second, when all the water in the material is gone, it will leave a ton of little wholes and spots inside. So water can pour in again, this water freezing to ice in the winter will enlarge its volume and cause micro cracks in the material. This will not last long I would bet.
@lars9517
@lars9517 3 года назад
We sell this where I work and it is a great product. The surrounding area will fall apart before the patch. You can install this ina rainstorm, water activates the binders and you can install this in winter as well adding a little RV Antifreeze to the water. Once you are done installing this you can open it to traffic ASAP! No need to wait 24 hours like he stated.
@NathanLeeAnimations
@NathanLeeAnimations 3 года назад
I thought this, however whatever chemical is in it will utilize the water. The pressure applied in the process moved, soaked and distributed the original water. The solution fell apart easily so looks like water can move through it freely until the chemical reaction takes place. This just looks like a solution that works. All that said, I know nothing of this type of thing, but they're my limited conclusions.

@@krisg822 Well, I live in Canada and potholes "repairs" like this one don't last long... Even when it's fixed correctly, it usually only lasts about a year or so.
@Ouwkackemann
@Ouwkackemann 3 года назад
@@nic12344 That´s mostly because it isn´t "fixed correctly". 1. Clean the hole from every dirt, because any of it will prevent the connection between old and new material 2. Hole has to be dry 3. Add a binder to all surfaces of the hole, so that there is a connection between old and new, this connection should be sealed 4. Bring the material in and compress it firmly, so that there are no spots and little holes in the material and especially at the contact surfaces, because every little hole will take water in and cause damages/losen the new material Finally, the usual way is to pour in hot material. The hotter the surface of the potthole, the better. Potthole fixing in cold weather isn´t a good idea this way. And maybe some epoxy-stuff would work, but then you still will have to connect the new with the old material and you have to seal this connection. That´s why I´m very sure, this example here will not work.

There's a reason for that. The cost benefit make sense. It's a waste of money to send out a hot bitumen truck for a small pothole. It makes more financial sense to wait for a road to degrade overall to a point where it's time to replace a large segment. Roll out the big road works equipment.

@susansmith9903

Do these guys ever consult the professionals? A permanent pothole repair means prep work, which includes digging out the sides of the hole until the bottom is wider than the top. Then the hole gets blasted with a high pressure water hose, then filled with a gravel/sand mix, tamped down to four inches below the surface. Then heat the edges and pour in hot asphalt, roll it 2 or 3 times and it’s ready for traffic in ten minutes after it’s cooled AND IT’S PERMANENT.
@boardmanfan
@boardmanfan 4 года назад
@Susan what do you heat the edges with?
@Corkoth55
@Corkoth55 3 года назад
Yeah these cold patches suck. Always fling the rock bits around when you drive afterwards.. my town is the champion of that. My street is a dead end so they won't fix it fully. They've formed patches that include curbs with this crap 😑😑🙄
