Just wanna say even if you get continuity on the DC jack make sure you clean it out to make sure its not dirty/corroded. Checked everything on my super famicom and was ready to resort to a full recap but I decided to clean the jack for the heck of it - turns out a dirty power jack was the problem.

So my SNES won't power on and it has nothing to do with ANY of the things mentioned in this video. My problem is with T1. I thought it was with C30 and C31, but it turns out to be T1 (which isn't even labeled on my SVCH-CPU-01 board), it has "RC01" written on it. After searching for quite a while, I found that T1 is a Common Mode Choke and that part number "TDK ZJYS51R5-2P" could be used to fix it. Why is their absolutely NO VIDEOS on RU-vid about SNES repair that mention replacing T1? Not ONE!

Hi mate. Great vid, i've isolated using my multimeter that mine has likely also blown the fuse, as im getting nothing through the meter. My question is this, I have a UK one and the fuse inside appears to be different to all the others i've seen online including yours. However all of these have been either US or in your case PAL AUS versions. Inside mine instead of the 1.5Pico fuse, I have a smaller green what appears to be a 1/2amp pico fuse? I assume this is becuase the UK outputs 240V for the mains, so perhaps a smaller fuse is required? I'm no expert on this stuff but does that make any sense or is mine been fiddled with in the past? Thanks

Great video. I wasn't able to find the problem. I get no power when switched on. I do have continuity through my fuse and across the switch. Also have continuity on board where the power supply connects. The power supply supplies about 9.6VDC, however once I connect it and then test the points on the board where the power supply connects I only read about 2.5VDC. I think this could be my problem but I don't have a working unit to see what the actual voltage read should be. Thanks

I'm wondering if the same applies to the Super Famicom. I recently purchased a SFC in Tokyo and it worked perfectly on Japanese a outlet. I then traveled to Hong Kong and stupidly plugged the SFC into a voltage adapter which I believe fried it... (I know dumb idea). Once I arrived back in the US I plugged SFC into a voltage step down and the console will still not turn on. I'm hoping replacing the fuse will bring her back to life. Any thoughts are welcome. Thank you for the great article,

I will have to check this out cause I had my SNES open to clean out the 62 bit part and it worked great as I tried some games before closing it back up but the switch was touching part of the Motherboard when I switch it on and then it wouldn't come back on again...I already ordered a new switch, which is fine as they only run about $4, but now I might be thinking it's the fuse...I'll have to check it out...but it shorted out after touching something when power went through

I'm pretty sure you are testing the voltage incorrectly. The SNES Adapter takes in 120AC V and OUTPUTS 9-10DC V. You were testing the output as AC, although you got a reading close to the correct number, your method was wrong, you have to set the multimeter to 20 V DC.

Hello man, great video! I have a problem with my old SNES. I tried the original power supply and it won't work (I'm in argentina 220v) so looks like someone plugged the 110v and now it's gone. So I tried to find a 10v 850ma adapter but I can't find one. I'm trying with a 9v 1000ma 3rd party adapter and the console powers on, the TV gets signal (AV) but I get black screen and no sound. Could this be because of the low quality 9v adapter? Tried with different games. Cleaned the connectors, etc. Thanks in advance man!

"AC Adapter" means 100/110/230/240 VOLTS AC @ the mains (wall) then transformed to 9 VOLTS DC in relation to a SNES. Just to let everyone know when their setting the multi-meter. ;)
@Consolethinks
@Consolethinks 8 лет назад
+Joseph Arksey Actually, the PAL/US SNES expects AC9v on it's socket. It's same as the original NES and that's why their power adapters are interchangeable (it's even marked on the power adapters that were produced later than 1990-91). The japanese version of both systems expect DC9V though so you shouldn't use a EU/US power adapter on it.
@Dan-TechAndMusic
@Dan-TechAndMusic 8 лет назад
No, the NES and SNES adapters with the blue tip supply 9V AC. As said, that's what the SNES outside of Japan uses. Don't believe me? Stick it into a device that expects 9V DC. It will fry it at worse, it won't work at best. However, you can safely use 9-12V DC on an AC SNES, as the circuitry inside the SNES that converts AC to DC just pass through the DC voltage.
@hectorhector
@hectorhector 6 лет назад
Consolethinks my US SNES expects 10V DC
@SumDumGy
@SumDumGy 6 лет назад
We clearly have a conflict of information here, likely due to different regions. My US NES power adapter outputs 9v DC. I have a SNES adapter that outputs 10v DC. I haven't discovered yet if the SNES adapter is proper for my console though. Either it doesn't work at all or my console has a problem.
