There's no need to spray the plastic cones. They just help with less dust on the rod itself. Just lube the rod, take the bottom clip out, wipe down and apply new grease inside the rod and bearings.
One addition to this - if you're getting a clicking when you swivel the chair, then the thrust bearing on the bottom of the piston has probably worn out. You can get a kit for about $10 and the repair takes about 10 minutes: remove the clip on the bottom of the piston, swap out the bearing ring, apply lube, and then presto - no more clicking.

Thanks my dude! Seems like most of the creaking noise comes from the top of the gas piston button and the lever pushing it. And the cracking bone noises from the recliner part. sprayed it up with wd40 grease. mostley gone, just the faux leather as you say, but i like the leather sound :D
this is what it fixed my chair: just take some grease and put in on the bolts before you screw them on the base of the chair. just watched 5 videos and nobody says that.
The first I watched this, I don't really think that some loose screws could cause the squeak.. but I really can't find the source of squeak in my chair, so at the end, tightening solves the problem.. thank you so much ♥

How long does it last after you put the WD-40 on? How often do screws get loose? I was thinking I have a faulty part because I just got my chair a month ago, but maybe my dad didn't tighten the screws? We did put some WD-40 on, but not as much as you did here because he just eyeballed it while it was still right side up, and it solved it for like 5 days and then some of the squeaks came back. I'd do it by myself but I'm currently healing a fracture in my foot.
@dreamlikediana Screws will get loose over time, and it's a every case it's is own kind of thing. But you can do something about it. You can get threadlocker glue and apply it to the screws. The auto industry has been using that for ages. That would require you to, however, remove every screw, apply it, and rescrew them back on. One thing to be very mindfull is that this product only adds extra friction to the connection. And you dont want that to be permanent, so it's not really glue. So be very careful when choosing the product. For instance, Loctite (brand name) Red is permanent (that you do not want), and Loctite Blue is temporary (but still long lasting). Some chair brands even have nylon patches to the screws that mimic this behavior. The reason you dont want it to be permanent is that, in your future, you might want to take the chair appart to sell it (or move homes). Or that the screw, after a few years, got a bit loose, and you want to be able to take it out, put more threadlocker, and set it back in. Leave yourself open to options is always a good idea. Hope your foot recovered nicely. Had that happen to me years ago, and it wasnt fun whatsoever. And (even after a few months) I hope I helped answer your questions.
Unfortunately this is a method I've used for years. Sad to say, but wd40 does not last for long probably due to the fact that it's not a real lubricant. Squeeks will come back in the matter of months. wd40 will need to be reapplied 2-3 times a year. Honestly, I'm looking for a longer term solution.
@@fyre8442 It's not called being lazy. It's called UNNECESSARY maintenance. If I was truly lazy, would I be in search of a better solution than the one I currently do on a regularly throughout the year? No, so don't just assume. Also, It should just be one and done or if it didn't happen in the first place. And besides, wd40 will degrade plastic over time. so if you get any of it in deeper, it may destroy the Pneumatic Shock as the plug at the top is generally made of plastic.
You can apply threadlock to the screws. That would prevent them from coming loose that soon. Just be careful not to buy the permanent threadlocks. If that's the reason you're getting the squeeks.
