This is a bit of a random video for my channel, but I thought I'd record this in case someone else has as much trouble as I did. I finally figured out how to put the handle back in the ironing board! Happy fixing ;)
Thanks to this video, I just fixed mine. I think though that the handle should go in about 1/4" farther, so the hook part actually goes over the sliding rod. This keeps the handle from pulling/working out later on, since it is essentially hooked over the rod, and can't easily slide back out. The hook part still pries on the little tilted square, just from the far (other) side of the rod.
You know what, I think you might right! I just went back and tried it on mine, it's a little difficult to get it over the rod - you have to use some force to spread the area apart to get it through, but once it's in there it sits really well. Thanks for the tip!
Jen's explanation was the best. She showed good views of where and how the handle fits in. I had to replay crucial parts. How could a simple handle be such a hassle? So glad she posted this video. I was not looking forward to teplacing the ironing board. Now, the old board folds up just fine.
There are several RU-vid videos of varying quality showing how to fix an ironing board's mechanism, but this is far and away the best. Thanks, Jen, for taking the time to get good pictures-and for the clear explanation that goes with them.
I really want to BADLY HURT the inventor of the ironing board. I’ve never seen a device more infuriating and painful to work with. The mechanisms and design are beyond sloppy and disorganized, it drives me berserk!! That inventor should be in PRISON for inventing this useless CHEAPLY MADE item! 🤬🤬🤬🤬
This was awesome! I thought I was going to have to throw my 30 yr old ironing board away. I realized after watching your video, that I had to break free the handle from the mechanism in order to reassemble it properly. Thank you!!!
Using your instructions, I fixed my ironing board. I then lubed the squeeky rails and center pole, and it now has another life. It's 10 years old, and why buy another one with the same tech? Your video saved me $35!
Thank you for making this video! The closing handle for ours has gone missing, probably lost forever (thanks kids), but I was able to stick a screwdriver in from the front to compress that tab and get this ironing board closed. If I couldn’t get it closed manually I was going to cut the front loop of the tension rod and then figure out a way to make it stay open later (maybe by fastening a string to the bottom of each leg). Your video saved me a bunch of extra work!
Girl, I gotta tell ya... I was watching all these men with their videos that didn't explain or show anything but THEMSELVES fixing it... no close-ups of the mechanism or anything! Guess it takes a real woman to get the job done! 💪 Thanks for your help!
I just fixed mine, however, my lever is attached to the ironing board so it can never come out. The lever had somehow slipped from under one of the little flaps that covered the lever. I also discovered gobs of dirt and semi rust. I cleaned that off and added some 3 in one Household oil to the metal rod that the legs slide up and down on. I also added it to the release tab and ever its self. Who knew! Ironing board is over 20 years old. Thanks to you I can keep using it for another 20. LOL.
Thank you so much!! My board has been stuck "UP" for ages. Couldn't picture how it was going to go back in for the life of me. Finally goggled it and your video made super sense!! Love it….
Ohhhhhhh man!!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! I can usually figure things out but this was kicking my butt!!! Now everything makes sense!!! Problem solved!!
I have been on the hunt for a very low price ironing board for several months. I saw a young lady very frustrated and irritated with an ironing board getting ready to throw it in the dumpster. I asked if I may I please have the ironing board because that's exactly what I'm looking for. She said,, "If you can fix the handle, IT'S YOURS!" I just walked back 5 miles with an ironing board completely open and the handle in my handto my apartment googled how to repair the handle YOUR VIDEO was the first that came up, and now I have an ironing board! 😋😋😋 THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I bought my ironing board before I was married in 1970. This solution worked for me and I cannot thank you enough!! 53 year old ironing board works again!!
Thanks SO much! My ironing board lever has always been balky and would not work last night. Took me 15 sec to fix after watching the video ❤️Saved $50 on a new ironing board 😅
I watched two videos before I watched yours, and yours was the only one that clearly showed me what had to move (and how) in order for my ironing board legs to close. I’m so HAPPY I found your simple video. I did EXACTLY what you showed and AMAZINGLY!!!! I finally closed my ironing board after several days and several frustrating tries on my own. I almost ruined the legs just now until I saw saw 3 videos… and your video is the one that made the most sense! YAY!!!!! Thank you! I can sleep well now! Lol.
OMG. My ironing board was open so long I was using it as a table!~ For some reason today was the day I got a bug up my butt to try and close it, and in the process I managed to wrench that little lever off, and attacked every metal thing I could see with a hammer, screwdriver, WD-40, and a clamp (don't ask) and started shopping for a new one. Then I remembered: "hey, if I have this problem then everyone else has it too" and started looking at videos. Yours was the one that helped!! THANKS JenMarQuin!!
THANK YOU !!!! You did the best job showing exactly where the handle goes . Once I watched you video I was able to close my ironing board, which has been open for over a year in my basement.
Excellent. I had no lever but once I could see how the mechanism worked from your video, I could press it in the right direction with a small screwdriver to get it to release.
Had an ironing board in out costume shop. Its been stuck open since before I got here. This video help so much and I was able to get it collapsed and put up! Thank you so much!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! My toddler pulled the lever out and I never in a million years would have guessed this is where it went. Thank you for saving my ironing board!!!
This is the video I keep coming back to in order refresh my memory on how to get that pesky lever back in. Thanks again....for the 5th time. See you in a couple of months lol
Great video. Seeing the inside bits up close helped. In my case, I removed the cover so I was able to see through from the other side which really helped.
Thank you for not giving up! I use my ironing board every day. They can be a bit noisy so I spray dry graphite on the rods and carefully wipe them clean so they do not drip black! Hope mine continues to work as I would be apt to turn it upside down and kick it shut.
Thanks very much; your video was effective. We were about to throw ours away but I decided to use RU-vid and yours was the first to pop up. I didn’t need any other video. Muchisimas gracias
I honestly have no clue how anyone could dislike such a perfect video. Haters are all over I guess... You absolutely nailed it. Just happened to be in a similar situation with the legs not going down and u happened to have the same ironing board.. I actually fired up Amazon to go and look at ironing boards and BAM here you go saving me $40+! Thanks again and GREAT job!! 😎
You are what I love about YOU Tube! Random individuals who demonstrate how to fix everyday miscellaneous problems, because they know it will benefit someone. Thanks 😊
Great video and instructions on how to resolve the ironing board stuck in the up position. I truly enjoyed watching and learning. Most of all, you save me a lot of search time... I now know how to fix my ironing board problem. Great job Jen and Thanks a bunch...!!! 👍👍👍👍👍😃😃🤠🤠🤠
2:30 Apart from the extended intro which, my opinion wasn't needed for a how to video, my ironing board functions the same and it was very helpful. Thank you!
Thanks for your video. I too was putting the lever in the wrong place, but have now positioned it in its proper place, and to ensure that it doesn't slip out again, I used my robogrip pliers to push up/fold up the metal flap next to the tab that loosens the leg.
I have to admit this video really took out a whole lot of guess work out for me I have been struggling with my cheap ironing board but your video gave me only 10 minutes worth of energy thank u plenty. 😘👍
It's not my ironing board but I still enjoyed watching you. You are rather funny and such a nice person to help so many who struggle to do things. We can't be good at everything lol
Hilarious, ours has been sitting in the closet stuck open for years because I couldn't figure it out. I'm cleaning out my closet and thought I'd RU-vid a video to see if I can figure it out and you have the identical ironing board I have. Clearly this is a manufacturing issue 🙄. Mine unfortunately is in worse shape due to all the metal being folded up but I was able to push that pin enough to get it to closed. Thanks for explaining where the mechanism was, huge help!
I think we have the same ironing board cover. Thanks for showing how to get the base of the "legs" out of the way so you can see how to put the lever back. I also had to tighten up the metal tabs around the lever channel because it just tried to pop back out again.
You saved me! I was getting mad bc I have a tiny apt and I accidentally pulled the legs down and its lever was not working. But you saved me from being trapped in my room bc it blocked my way lol
