Thank you for the great video. I just undertook the surgery to replace the two belts. It's 19 years old and the belts turned into bubblegum. Surprisingly it's actually easier than you make it look. I didn't even unload the carousel. Disconnecting the 4 cables from the board is probably the riskiest part. I'm a retired machinist, tool maker and mechanical engineer and I see things most people don't see. What I saw in this machine is astounding. The care and detail is outstanding. The quality of the plastic injection molding is superb. Especially the carousel. That's a single piece and to mold that with those 300 dividers is no simple task. Thanks again.

How to find replacement belts - Search for: 2 Drive Belts and 1 Door Belt for Sony 300 400 CDP-CX300 CDP-CX400 CD Player Belts Several results found on Amazon, Ebay, etc. These fit multiple models of the Sony Carousel style players. Set of all 3 belts should be under $10 including shipping. As the video mentioned, to replace the door belt you need to remove the carousel to get underneath it.

Great video! I first watched another video which emphasized removing all of the parts above the belts in order to access them. I quickly realized that even if i did get all of the parts removed, I would never remember how to reassemble them correctly. Fortunately, I came across your video a short time later, and found the process much more simple and straightforward. Great, helpful video. The best part is it allowed me to change both belts ($10 from Amazon) in about ten minutes with no problems, and, best of all, without having to take out a single disk. Saved a big pain of putting all of the disks back in!

Thank you! Was able to complete this repair in 20 minutes, and 10 of that was spent trying to get the old rubber bands out! They had actually melted and decomposed to the point they were the consistency of grease! I’ve never seen anything like that before with rubber that wasn’t being actively heated!

Just replaced belts/cleaned my cx355 from '02. I replaced the door belt as well, easy fix...Great machine, and excellent storage!

I'm a little late but I have a problem with my cdp-cx350. I changed the belts but since then it just displays"table error" and won't play the disk but instead stop one next to the grabbing mechanism. If I push the carusel a little manualy, it will grab the disk and starts playing it. Would you know a solution that might fixes my issue?

I got this a couple years ago for about $40, it needed some belts, I went to dollar store and bought a bag full of assorted size elastic bands and was able to fix player, still plays no problem. Put on random and plays for ever.

My Sony CD changer has just had the belts changed by the previous owner a few weeks ago and it seems to worked fine until today. The carousel just goes around and I see blue, green and amber lights in the window. I've checked all the plastic tabs on the underside and they are all there and secure. Might it be the sensors have dust or misalignment?

Thank you for sharing this video. Does replacing the belts also solved the issues that sometimes when loading a cd the cd gets stuck and smashed somewhere in the machine or brakes. I had that twice so maybe i need to replace the belts. Thanks for sharing again.

The tray/carousel stops always one slot before the one selected. If I help it manually (with the cover off) the clamps and pick up will operate fine, but if the disc is ejected or another slot selected then again, the tray will stop one slot before the one picked, why is this? All belts replaced with new ones.

Hi,I changed out the belts but the table stops 1 disc short to load.I can move it manually and it will grab the cd but I can't seem to get it alighned.Any suggestions?Thank you

Great video content. Are you just using common elastic/rubber bands? I have a 200 disk CDP-CX235 and it seems like there is only one toothed belt in the rear. Can you replace that with a non-toothed belt? I'm having loading issues as the disk wil intially load into the opitical driver then it will fall out. Is this related to the loose belt? Daniel

Hi there we have 400 disc Sony in for repair where with no discs in the carousel rotates and the machine will load a no exsistance disc from every single location as if it thinks it has a disc in every location and yet if you put a disc in say position 25 and with drum search knob ask it to go to 25 it does and loads disc and plays.

What about the door belt? I bought the replacement belts and both the drive belts were easy to replace with your video. I am wondering about the 3rd smaller belt that came with the package.

Great video, many thanks, my CDP-CX355 (that I got maybe back in 2001) now has 2 new belts that work great. But there is an additional fault that I don't know how to fix, can you give a suggestion? This fault was present before the belt changes. The unit grabs each CD but almost always is unable to play the cd, it just spins for some time, then moves to the next disc , and this repeats. I don't see an error message. Occasionally it will play, or play some of the tracks and then the fault reappears. I cleaned the laser with isopropyl alcohol on a cotton-bud as you did, but it does not change the symptom. Any suggestions?

Do any of these units use a toothed type belt? If so, which? Have you ever replaced the laser reading component in these and how would you say is the quality of their longevity? What is a good source for the replacement belts you like?

My jog dial knob on my cdp- cx230 CD player doesn’t work properly now. It will move the carousel back and forth or in the opposite direction that it’s supposed too, so I can’t put in discs where I want other than where the door opens, the player still plays fine. Any suggestions what to check ?

Hi I have a question. My mothers 350 quit working and I took the top off and immediately saw that the belt was off. I ordered 2 belts from ebay and am gonna go ahead and change both when they get here but I noticed that the disc tray doesn't spin freely when I tried to move it with my hand. Does that mean I have a bigger problem than just the belt being off the pulley?

A big thank you for this video, it worked perfectly... now have our much missed player working... one question I cleaned the laser and noted how loose it was, is this how it scans a disc or do I have a problem as at the end of some discs we seem to get the music stuck in one place!! I have one of these that when empty it isn't saying "NO DISC" instead it just keeps trying to load 1-300 discs. You can't get it to stop. Others i have will close the door and say "no disc" do you know why it would do this?

How do you repair when one disc when completed playing will not play the next CD without manual intervention

I have a Sony DVP-CX870D. It has trouble loading a disc. It fails with C 32 00 error. It intermittently will load a disc. Is this a belt issue? If I help the disc it will load and play fine. The carousel is working fine. Not sure how to troubleshoot this issue and correct it? Do you have a video on the Cx870d??

I have a 50-1 Sony like this but it doesn't eject the disc to switch to the next disk.

I have replaced the belts on many but now I have one where I changed the belts and now the carousel just continually searches back and forth and will not stop. What do I do to fix this?

Great video very helpful where can I buy the new belts and do they have part # 's also my machine needs the new belts but it does pull the disk out of the tray and then tries to scan the disks and then just puts it back in the tray and never plays it.
