I've watched this video and your baseboard video. I like that you show some problem solving during the video. Also, you only talk about what needs to be talked about. . . without giving your whole life story and I appreciate that.

I had the same issue but solved it a different way. I sprayed door and window expanding foam. It will expand and look bubbly and flowing. Don't panic, let it fully cure. Then take a utility knife and trim it to match the door jam profile. Sand it if needed to fine tune. Then put a coat of joint compound on to seal the poures. Let that dry and sand smooth. Prime and paint.

What did you do about the door itself now having a big gap at the bottom?
@Chanmantroop10
@Chanmantroop10 2 года назад
I thought of using joint compound but I don't think it'll hold up to bring kicked here and there and the vacuum banging up against it. I was actually thinking of wood filler. The spray foam is a good idea for having a base to work with though
@Rlprime
@Rlprime 2 года назад
Spray foam would be too flexible to prevent things from crumbling or cracking.

When I used the mini wax wood filler the smell was so strong it smelled up my whole house for about 3 days. It was kinda cold out but I had to open all my windows and turn the fan on. I asked one of the workers at Lowe's if there was something different I could use as I still had a lot of deep scratches in all the woodwork to fill in and other places also he recommended Spackling. My goodness, what a difference. There was no smell, it was so much easier to work with and dried 3 times faster and covered with paint a whole lot easier. I use the spackling for all my wood fill in's now and have not had it come out. I highly recommend the spackling for wood fill in's. I also used it at my daughters house to fill in holes in her sheet rock and it worked so much better than trying to use joint compound. I bet it can be used on just about any kind of fill in that you need to fill.

You can also use a pin nailer to lessen the chance of splitting the piece. Excellent job overall
@xbrizzcakez

nice job, my only advice to anyone doing this is to take a few minutes and sand and prime the pieces of wood before nailing, its much easier in hand than to prep and prime when it`s tight to the flooring.

I normally cut jamb to allow at least a 5" piece so it doesn't blow out and Bondo to contour and finish - keeping 1/16" off the finished flooring to allow for movement. Otherwise great job - keep up the good fight!! 🤠👍

Another nice job. However, curious why you removed the notch 2:11? Even more so, considering you then had to 'add' one of sorts.
@FixThisHouse
@FixThisHouse 2 года назад
Thank you so much! Yes removed it so that I can thin it out because it’s too thick. You cna technically just shave it from the front but it will mess with the curved profile on the sides. Either way you can go either route for you can round the edges with the wood filler 🙏🏽😊

should have just used the wood filler to fill in the nail holes. Don't use caulking it will shrink. I have a couple of these to do but no extra door frame like you had...

@@FixThisHouse I seen one where this person put poly foam caulk saver in the crease and then applied plastic wood. Is that by any means good?
@LikeItOrLumpIt2107

I don't get why so much timber was cut from the door frame to lay the floor. If you use a multi-tool cutter, you can trim door frames so that flooring can slip under frames & no need for infilling afterwards. Much neater & cheaper finish too!

Hi! The previous owner of the house had 3/4” hardwood floors installed. Then they had 1/4” plywood with tile and vinyl sheet flooring on the bathroom side. When I ripped it all off and install the LVP, it left this huge gap.

@@FixThisHouse - Could you drop the entire casing down by pulling the trim and shimming at the top?
@FixThisHouse
@FixThisHouse 2 года назад
That is possible. You can shorten the jamb and then fill the gap up top and cover with the casing if your casing is wide enough.

Don't get that brand, get the 20v Dewalt brand, you can't beat it. It's also easier to change blades by only pressing a lever.

If you can SEE it or FEEL it, it's either not filled enough or sanded enough, and it WILL be seen; especially by fellow carpenters. My work partner and I walk into rooms and inevitably find all the things that could have used a bit more OCD by the guy/guys before us.

Dude it looks like garbage. I don’t know if you filmed this just for the concept, but take your time and do better. Fill the cracks/nail holes proud and sand it to blend and finish smooth. You shouldn’t be able to notice the repair. If you’re taking the time to teach, teach correctly.

spackling could be spread over it all and tapered smooth with rest of trim and you would see any seams of nail holes and it paits excellent and dries fast.
