How To fix Broken Pan Pastels properly. Based on the Manufacturers recommendation.
In this video I show you how to properly repair your broken Pan Pastels based on what I was told directly from Colorfin.
There have been many ways shown to fix your Pan Pastels so I contacted the manufacturer to see if any of these are the proper way. They indicated that you should NOT add water or alcohol to the Pans as it can change the archival qualities.

I don't want to add anything to my panpastels either and what colorfin suggested makes a lot of sense but I found a way to do what they suggest and leave the pastels in the pan. Chop up whats in the pan into small pieces I then use a epoxy casting I did years ago that is 2" dia. by 1 1/2" thick the epoxy is perfectly smooth and the pastels don't stick to it. I then apply heavy pressure while twisting the round piece of epoxy mashing the contents to almost like factory. I've fixed 6 this way and they work like brand new.

I figured this would be the case, so thank you for reassuring me I was on the right path! I wish I could find someone to show how they set up their 80 pc trays... the colors in line.. I have them semi close but am always interested in how others set their trays up. Im new to Pan Pastels, so I will be searching your videos first. You have such a soothing voice and I see you are a fellow BobRoss-er. Blessings to you from the great Pacific Northwest, Lakewood Washington!

So glad I came across this video! Great information, so thanks for making this. I'd also found that style of applicator earlier & was interested in them, so it was nice to see it used!

Thank you for this info. I received 4 broken pastels and after contacting the seller, nothing. I dreaded opening them as they made such a mess. Now I can control the powder. Thank you.

So very happy it helped!

I restored the broken jar with isopropyl alcohol - everything turned out fine. Small irregularities do not affect the quality😊.) Thanks for the information - the powder is also useful to me for polymer clay👌.)

That's not fixed. I thought you meant to solidify it. As in the way the company made it originally not powder. Mine broke, everything is powder.

success2013 they don’t recommend adding anything to solidify it again.

Some people at ISO 70% and it hardens, but it will not be as powdery and honestly I feel it mutes the color some. His method is a way to keep it creamy and not mute color. I like this method a lot.

I’ve done this, I like it better than adding alcohol.

@@MichaelSBellFineArt Maybe then make the title of your video "What to do with broken Panpastels", or "What the Colorfin recommends you do with broken Panpastels". But I agree with success2013, this is not fixing and shouldn't be labeled as such. Still, thanks for doing the video. It's easy to critique when it's not us in the arena :)

@@mangomontero how about you make a video then instead of trying to dictate what I title my video? I’m not changing anything but thank you for your reply

I pressume ( I know perhaps I shouldn't) that I could convert my pastel sticks to pans in this way?

This would of been a great video as I received my panpastels with a couple broken however I could not hear one word from Michael. I watched this on my desktop which at full volume will blow you away and had it on full volume and heard nothing....too bad!!!

Sorry to hear that. I’m listening it to my phone and the volume is a bit low but I can hear it just fine on my end.

Is there any chance that there is an x by the speaker icon in the video? His voice is very light & I had to turn the volume up several notches on my TV (how I watch YT videos) but I did get him plenty loud enough for these old ears to hear.
