You absolute hero, I was losing my head trying to do this on my 2016 M135i yesterday. Watched your video and within 15 minutes it was done. Nice one !!!
@@pcwexhaustmods I was in an underground car park when the spring snapped and I was queuing to get out and it sounded like a ball bearing in a baked beans can!
Top man. Went to adjust my spring/clip after it started to rattle painfully, only to find it had snapped and there was only tiny piece left, you saved me a trip to the dealer, thank you.
Legend, cheers for the video Paul. Was surprised to see you as the first search result, since my 235 had your magic worked on it a few years back! Still sounds fantastic.
Thanks for this, my M135 had lost this spring so I had to put a new one in. It's quite tricky doing it under the car with the exhaust fitted and I had to open it up as you advise to get it to engage the motor. Nasty job but made simpler with your video.
I never would have thought the problem was in that little box, this video really helped me to understand the issue before trying to resolve, thank you! If you're stubborn, you can leave the whole flapper assembly installed. Remove the spring with a square set of needle nose pliers. I Dremel'd some groves to match the spring. Get a good grip, and if I had to do this again wouldn't take more than a few minutes. Found a new spring online, most places selling
Mine (M235i) snapped and disappeared yesterday, so a new one is due in tomorrow. I looked last night and it seems the M235i's actuator is very easy to access (one tailpipe on each side of the car). I was going to try to slide the new one in, but looking at your video, I think I will remove the actuator and do it. Thanks!
Pauls car welding OMG!!!! I’m an idiot! It took me like 4 hours to do a 30min job. On the M235i I learned that I had to jack the car up (placed a jack stand for safety) to “see” what I am doing. Then I learned that I found a piece of the old spring in place so mine snapped in two. Because I have the worst luck I ALSO learned that my actuator moved “out of range” because the spring broke ? And refused to line up (no matter where I turned the exhaust flap). I tried everything to get that actuator to move-including connecting and disconnecting power and starting her up. Finally, I did it the wrong way (kids don’t follow me) and jammed a large screwdriver in the actuator and worked it back and forth until it moved enough to line up. Car is perfect and all is working lol. Your stretch mod will ensure I don’t have to do this anytime soon again 😂
I was actually missing the spring entirely!!! Lol 11 bucks amazon and 3 bolts and viola your done. I didn’t even jack the car up to be honest 20 minutes later your done! Spring a pain to keep aligned when installing back but with some patience 👌🏻no problem..
Like others my spring was broken and this made it impossible to line up the notches. Fortunately after some consideration the solution is very simple. When the car is started the exhaust valve servo goes through its full range of motion both ways. With the help of a glamourous assistant, start the car and unplug the exhaust valve servo while it is in motion. This then leaves it in a relatively central position and allows you to easily line up the notches and fit the spring. When the car is started again (after putting everything back together again) the exhaust valve servo will run through its full motion and the problem will be fixed.
Ryan McAvoy have the same problem with mine, the spring has broken. Waiting for the new part to arrive, when fitting does the valve in the exhaust need to be open or closed? Thanks
@@cloogan6781 I'd suggest you get someone to start the car. The valve servo goes through the full range of motion when the car starts. Unplug the valve when it's in motion so it's not fully open or closed or you may have trouble fitting the spring
@@pcwexhaustmods Having real difficulty fitting the clip, or my son is. He says it hits another part of the car when he tries to fit it so doesn't turn properly. (Sorry, I'm not technical!)
OK. We think we've got it. Running now and no rattle. But what actually causes the valve to actuate. I've revved it and there's no difference - seems ok.
I actually have a question about the stock valve exhaust for m235i(I'm pretty new to all this exhaust stuff and car stuff lol) let's say I want to change my stock muffler to a smaller muffler, will the valves still be there and work the same when changing from comfort to sport or sport plus? Or will need to buy a valvetronic exhaust system?
I have a m135i 2013, the spring snapped on the control valve actuator, I cannot fit the spring because the spring does not line up with the both notch, can you please assist
My spring has snapped, replaced it with a new one and stretched it a bit but still have a little rattle when reving.....I don’t know what to do now. I hate cars!
pcwexhaustmods thanks for the quick reply! I think I may have just sorted it. I started the car and then moved the flap manually until the rattle stopped. I think I might have moved it beyond it normal operation area.... moved it a few mm back the other way and now it’s seems to be ok open and closed. Fingers crossed!
