Dude, you are the man. I just had this same issue. I wasn’t off-roading mine though, however I recently tore into the engine due to a tap and it was under an oak tree that was blooming. One tiny piece of one of the flowers made its way into the mass air sensor. I was scratching my head because there were no codes. Thanks again, man. Love those crown vics. Great cars. You simply can't buy ANYthing modern that rides like a heavy RWD V8. You stole it for $300. I gotta find another one.
Pisser, if you give the gauge cluster a few smacks on the plexiglass and on top of the dash, the odometer should light back up again for a little while, I work on these cars everyday and have the same issues with them.
