If the error shows repeatedly, see our latest upload, it will definitely fix your problem. Try this method if you have dual boot on your PC - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SAwi5rUuSkA.html
Thank you. In my case, (hd0,msdos3) was not unknow. It was "File system is ext2". So, I used (hd0, msdos3) for boot and prefix. And it worked. But this issue had repeated everytime I restart. After that, I entered grub rescue commands again and went to my ubuntu. I ran 2 commands in ubuntu terminal: sudo update-grub sudo grub-install /dev/sda And my issue has been completely solved. I hope this helps someone like me.
It worked You have to execute the command in order. In the list command, if you come across Linux partition that's the one msdos(n) you have to set. This was not told in the video. When you encounter any error, you have to reset and then start all over again. No short cuts.
Sorry for that! First of all tell me that, have you deleted Ubuntu from your laptop or computer? If your answer is yes, Then this process will not work here.
i have this problem too, i deleted da partition of my ubuntu then extended it to my C drive because i want to remove ubuntu completely then i reboot .. and follow some instructions in grub rescue. but after i typed insmod normal it shows error: no such partition how to fix this please :(
This video kinda helped. So I owe it thanks. Unlike the video, one of my partition's filesystem was not unknown. It was ext2 and apparently that's what I needed to set my prefix too.
My hand is shaking, i thought my pc was broke. This guide really help me, my file system is in (hd0,gpt4) instead of the one in the video but it is working fine here
Thanks dude that helped alot! Also for anyone that had dual boot, the command set will show the first partition it encounters, if the normal command doesnt work try each partition with ls command until a different one from the set command shows a path, and then try the command set with that one.
@ASA Technical This method is not working for me. After using insmod command it shows error: no such partition. Please someone help me. FYI i have mistakenly deleted the partition where ubuntu was installed
Works like a charm, my issue was. My ubuntu installed on sda7 then i merge sda7 with empty partition sda6. But the filesystem renamed to sda6 not sda7, using this video tecnique. I could rescue my grub again Thx mate
Hi I also had same problem but finally my computer starts Follow this steps Assuming you are using Windows 7 (this should also work on Vista and Windows 8): 1)Put the Windows 7 installation/Upgrade disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer (set to boot from CD in BIOS). 2)Press a key when you are prompted. 3)Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next. 4)Click Repair your computer. 5)Click the operating system that you want to repair (Windows 7 in this case), and then click Next. 6)In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt. 7)Once in the command prompt, type exactly Bootrec.exe /FixMbr and then press ENTER. You will see "operation completed successfully." (Doesn't even take a second. Don't be alarmed ) 8)Reboot and set BIOS to boot from the HDD again. GRUB will be overwritten in step 7 and Windows bootloader will once again take control of loading your OS(s).
I have windows 10 and ubuntu. When there's an update process from w10 suddenly rescue mode appears. Then i came to this short and clear tutorial and the problem has gone. Thank you very much for you And sorry for my bad english XD
Some simple cmd after following this above tutorial :- Windows will reboot < Open CMD as administrator < bootrec/fixmbr < bootrec/fixboot < bootrec/scanos < bootrec/rebuildbcd < Press A key (you will be asked for all .... To select all press A ) < exit . Your problem is fixed now you'll not see the grub rescue again !! Hope so it helps.
I reinstalled ubunto, and it works now. It is scary...which means before I turned off my PC yesterday, someone remotely sneaked onto my PC and deleted complete ubunto since when I reinstall it, I was not asked for repair option but just like I was install a new copy. Thanks for your suggestion of reinstallation.
Thank you for this video it helped me explore a lot ... Still facing the issue.. After pressing set command Boot=(hd0, msdos1) Prefix=(hd0,msdos1)/grub2 Root= hd0,msdos1 Are the setting. Following troubleshooting steps "No such partition" is the Error coming up
Even you have your root at msdos1 try to type msdos7. As mine was msdos8 but I typed msdos 7 and it went well. now this is a temporary solution if you haven't deleted your whole OS then after booting into your OS go to terminal and type sudo apt-update grub, and then sudo install grub /hd0/sda and It'll work fine.
this works only if you didn't delete linux from your partition. I fixed reinstalling Linux; In my case after I erased fedora 29 from my partition, decided to get fedora 12(because my pc have low requirements ) . I still have two operating systems. but at least my pc still works
Yo, i have an issue to this problem ( NON UEFI ) - boot on windows with usb key ( .iso ) - launch "repair PC" - launch cmd - bootrec /fixmbr Then restart your device, it work for me !
It really helped me, thank you so much for that. may your channel grow better and better. when i first saw that i thought that i have to reinstall my OS again but you helped me thanks. god bless you
It's my advice always keep a pendrive with ventoy in it before messing with Linux partitions coz ventoy has an option call localboot which allows you to boot into different os right from there. So if any day your grub is messed up you will be able to boot without all these grub rescue hassle You are welcome ;)
@@nikolaiii3 try using windows recovery CD/usb.but you need working windows PC,ask your friend.you can simply search youtube how to make windows recovery.you can using CD or usb. for the problem go to this page and scroll down until you see about windows recovery step.only 2 step. askubuntu.com/questions/217904/unable-to-boot-into-windows-after-installing-ubuntu-how-to-fix
when I start my computer I get: minimal bash-like line editing is supported for the first word TAB list possible command completions anywhere else tab list possible device file completions. . Any suggestions
thanks man.. big help!!!! my system got shutdown when ubuntu was updating.... which leads to grub screen ,everytime i restart the pc it got stuck to grub screen remember find your own partition correctly cmdpath was also diffrent in my case changed to (hd1) and other set to (hd1,gpt3) Thanks again
Great video! I wasn't able to restore GRUB with this method, but that was because of an error I made during my OS install. If the above method does not work for you, give this a shot: To fix it, I booted into a live Linux Mint disk, and erased the target partition. Next, I installed the Linux Mint OS alongside my existing partitions. The installer automatically used the newly erased partition and rebuilt the GRUB bootloader. Good luck!
It's very helpful. But in my case it is opening pc for one time only, every time when I am going to open pc or start/restart ,I need to type that all commands again and again. Plzz tell me the solution
sorry but 3 yrs later my problem: step: insmod normal (enter) > Unknown file system////// grub/boot/ was discovered =(hd0,gpt2) before that//////another BOOT was such: cmdpath=(hd0,gpt1)EFI/BOOT but there was no GRUB visible - what may be ?
Performed ALL The Steps... But After "insmod normal" no such partition {i have deleted partition erlier and extended to drive c..} plz help me to access my window
I am getting whenever i on my laptop so i have enter all the commands again n again. I make dual boot with windows7 and redhat7 but i am unable to see windows 7option in selection option ..please help me
Installing Linux/Windows dual-boot is trash. Did the process a few months ago and I’m still having issues getting rid of GRUB and Linux. Each time I’m forces to re-install Linux and fix Grub. Unless I do a clean install of Windows, I’ll probably never get rid of dual boot.
Its turns out that when i used set , it demonstrated HD0 So i kept using it instead of hd0,msdos6 because i thought it was my portion code , i wasted 6 hours of sleeping typing wrong codes in the grub rescue
Hello. please help me, my computer also fell into grub rescue and I can't get it out (hd0) (hd0,msdos2) (hd0,msdos1) (hd1) (hd1,msdos2) (hd1,msdos1) it came out like this, please tell me how to open it
Hey! I did the exact same thing till insmod normal but when I pressed enter then error occurred saying no such partition...and I am still stuck... please help
When I type insmod normal it says error:no such partition and for next one unknown command normal Also in ls it doesn't show dos 6 but in set it does show dos 6 pls help
I HV dual boot n i delete t partition n restart it n hi display this error ....Any changes need to b make in boot system that solve this error...Plz help m
I am going to explain a very easy and silly solution to this problem which I found in a comment of a video on EasyTechs YT channel This sol. will most certainly work for only those who did the same mistake as I did which is: I had dual booted my laptop with win 10 and MX LINUX, After around a month I realised that I don't use it. So one fine day I decided to get rid of the linux from my system to free up some space and improve loading times. To do so I simply opened the disk management tool and deleted the partition in which I installed the Linux and thought work is done. But no. I should have deleted the grub as well because at the time of boot, Grub was trying to find out the linux partition, which I deleted and there was no way for me to boot into windows hence I was searching for solutions and almost all of them had the same steps which were in the end to finally use the bootrec /fixboot but in my case it said Access denied. Now coming to the solution: step 1 Reboot the system. Step 2 Open Bios menu by pressing F2 or Del and if that doesn't work check what works for your pc/laptop producer. Step 3 Look out for Boot menu in this page. Step 4 Choose the windows version on the page. You will now boot into your windows machine but the work is not over yet, as If you don't remove the grub now also you will have to follow these steps everytime to boot in windows To remove grub: you can either watch a video which I have linked from EF - Tech Made Simple, skip to 7:40 to remove grub ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GycNpMZOQ88.html&ab_channel=EF-TechMadeSimple I strongly recommend to follow the video but if you are a mad lad you can follow the steps which I write again these are from the video linked above and all respect fot that dude. You can follow these steps:- Step 1 Open windows powershell in admin mode Step 2 Type Diskpart Step 3 list volume Step 4 select vol [The vol number in which your boot files/ grub is installed] Now since this step is crucial I want you to give full attention while identifying the volume To do so you can first open disk management and check which partition says Healthy(EFI partition) this is your volume note the size of this partition and select the vol which has equal size in powershell among all the volumes If in disk management you don't see a partition with such tag look out for system reserved healthy space or similar check the above linked video to be more clear After selecting the vol in step 4: Step 5 assign letter=A: if you have a drive with A assigned you can choose any character such as b c d e f g ...... After this step: Step 6 Open task manager Step 7 Choose File Step 8 Click on Browse Step 9 Choose the partition which you just created Step 10 Open EFI Step 11 Delete the os from there in my case it was linux you will have to delete the one you installed other than windows Step 12 In powershell type remove letter=A or the char You used. That's it Reboot and hopefully you will be logged in like normal way you used to. If this helped please copy and paste this comment on every video you searched the solution from. My laptop stopped working and when I switch on it when plugged in to a charger it shows this error and i followed each and every step but when typing insmod normal it shows no such partition. Do there any other way or I have to go to the service centre?
It worked, but it asked again and again So I had to make a bootable usb with linux os. Then try it without installing Now using the ubuntu boot repair tool could get back my boot screen (Ubutut boot repair tool is available on web, not in snap store)
bro i have 5 partitions, but when I remove hard disk for restore data into other pc, and then fix back to the same pc, it is showing only 3 partitions.. with same error "no such partitions" What I can do to solve this problem so I can save my data in the all drives?? Please🙏
After type set command I got (hd0,msdos6) as my final partition but after performing set boot, set prefix, insmod normal command I am still facing error no such partition. Please help me and provide me solution for this.
Bro, I previously had triple booted windows 10, Kali Linux and Ubuntu on my Laptop but when i updated my windows to Fall creators update and restarted my Laptop the the above error came and I tried your solution but only one of them works which takes me to kali linux or windows 10 but no option for ubuntu
you don't need to type anything if you install New operating system just change your grub Boot loader This problem only comes when you run two operating systems and you have changed or reinstalled one of them, you just have to use the new operating system gurb booltloader which you have installed fresh. At last change your grub Boot loader 😑😐
In my laptop only single os installed Ubuntu Linux and I deleted partion by commonds I mistooked now what I do help me 😭 it's not loading windows 10 installation media 😭
guys listen first check all the partitions 1 to 7 and than there will surly one partition exists in which it will show that it exists than type type that partition number in place of 7 in this video
Guys just i wanna say if you don't get the boot option via the default setup drive like hd0,dsk2 or hd0,dsk3. You should try by setting boot and prefixes to all the paths available. Good day
well...after insmod normak / normal - i get the message again : no such partition - unknown command: normal. what should i do ? only my hd0,msdos3 is in ext2 format , and the one after that. or maybe only this one . slowly im getting confused :D the point is , that i can not choose any of these partitions , because they are either unknown or it just doesnt react anything to the commands. anyone any help?
