Hello Kate, what did you say you recommend for a iron supplement that won't cause belly issues? I have chronic constipation and the last and only time I've tried Iron supplements it made my constipation a thousand times worse. So I was thinking about trying the one you mentioned. My ferritin levels are always around 13-17. Thanks in advance 😃

I've tried numerous things. The sole things that actually worked for me: A good diet, proper sleeping timings, moving your body atleast for 25 mins, eating right, using quality shampoo as well as oil. I use only liiitlleextra cocoonian hair oil, shampoo for this purpose plus it does the job. The hairfall got controlled with it.

Rosemary. I've got a rosemary shrub. I just take a bunch and steep it in water for hours until it's dark. I put it in a spritzer with a couple splashes of vinegar. I spritz my hair with that before tying it back. Rather than a fistful of hair in my brush, I might have two or three hairs in my brush. It works for me.

❤ It's a very big deal to us to lose any amount of hair. I also lost around half my already baby fine hair almost 10 years ago. Wigs have been a huge blessing and these days they are comfortable and completely natural looking. BUT I went through a grieving period nonetheless over losing mine for sure. My guess is you may also be feeling like that. This year I got a scare because my blood sugar levels were showing high on a doctor's blood test. This news scared me into revamping my sugar intake of course and adding a blueberry smoothy with spinach and kale in the morning and a blackberry smoothie with spinach and kale and walnuts in the afternoon. Also instead of a lot of fast food I cook lean healthy meals. Also I take vitamin d3/k3 and a collagen biotin supplement. This eating in turn made my stress levels decline and I added daily scalp massage. Well after all those years since losing my hair it began growing in and it has thickened in back to normal. I obviously can't say this may work for you but I had to share my story with you because I thought "what if" this in deed WILL work for you. ❤

No wonder people are desperately searching for remedies outside so-called conventional medicine. I have Hashimotos due to lack of proper bloodwork for proper diagnosis (insurance companies won’t cover thorough testing). I recently had change doctors resulting in a change in medication resulting in problems, hence another round of testing to correct the problem. That resulted in a $2,000, out of pocket lab work bill to help treat a known, life threatening medical condition! Our health care system is no longer “care”. It’s robbery!

Don't clean your sink or your hair brush or your bathroom floor that has your hair all over it. take a picture of it and how much has accumulated after a week or so. Looks like doctors need to see the proof of what is exactly going on. I know it sounds gross but I knew someone who took a picture of her blood soaked maxi pads and the toilet to show her health care provider how often she was loosing so much blood on her monthly cycle and that she literally couldn't get out of bed and had to resign her job because she took so many days off from work. Sometimes one needs to be that graphic unfortunately

Hi Michele. Have you been having Vitamin B12 injections every 3 months since your surgery? After my Bariatric surgery, I was taking my vitamins which incorporated B12, however after two months my hair fall was crazy. My hair is so thin now. My doctor has now started my B12 injections 3 monthly. Apparently I should have commenced them shortly after surgery, but I thought I had to wait until I ceased the vitamins. I’m now waiting for my hair to thicken up, at least the fallout has slowed down hugely. Xx

I no longer have a uterus (which was huge because of fibroid tumors) but am still on levothyroxine. And as a single mom of special needs twins exhaustion and depression almost destroyed me. I had a full thyroidectomy in 2020 (cancer), and am now experiencing (and have been for 1 year or more), crazy hair loss, along with brain fog, joint pain, lack of recall & to a small degree depression. I've always been known for my long curly hair, and now my hair is so thin it's "see through." I went to a new well known hairdresser that brushed it off to "just needing a new hair cut", which I did to the tune of $450 with products to help thicken(which they didn't). My GP is old school & chalked it up to normal "aging". I have asked for a T3 test, to which he said no. I will ask my Endocrinologist for a full thryoid panel due in Sept & go from there. In the meantime THANK YOU for all your dietary & supplement suggestions. Its' nice to know that this is NOT NORMAL aging!

@DrKateLyzengaDean 10 месяцев назад
You're welcome! As for your question comparing the two, there are many differences, but the ones that come to mind immediately are that you have to take double the Nutrafol (4 per day) to get the same levels of the main ingredients as Hair/Skin/Nails (2 per day), Nutrafol uses 2 proprietary blends (meaning you don't know exactly how much of each ingredient is in them), and Nutrafol lacks Silica, which is an important ingredient for hair strength. Those are just a few of the reasons Hair/Skin/Nails Ultra gets my vote! Here's the link to check out the ingredients: us.fullscript.com/plans/drkateld-functional-hair-growth-supplement-guide

Just read this on tbe blood test site regarding ferritin tests: Due to potential interference, do not collect samples from patients receiving high dose biotin therapy (i.e. >5 mg/day) until at least 8 hours (optimally 24 to 72 hours) following the last dose.

THANK YOU! I thought my issues were postpartum hair loss, but I recently had a full workup on my Thyroid and had high antithyroid paroxidase! My doctor referred me to an immunologist who said we will wait until it impacts T4 and go from there. Unacceptable in my perspective. will look into more functional medicine, but cut out a lot of my reactive foods and the loss has stopped now I need to regrow.......

My practitioner urged me to do a saliva test which showed my testosterone level was off by the most minute amount. According to research, testosterone can turn into DHT if your testosterone levels are off. DHT attaches to healthy hair follicles and makes the hair fall out. This has been my personal experience. Once I was put on testosterone cream, (it took a few months to get the correct dosage for my body) my hair stopped falling out. Currently using a compounding pharmacy in SC for testosterone cream. When I interviewed my current GP, I asked him if he would be willing to sign off on the prescription the pharmacy writes as they have 25 years experience with women's HRT.

This is why I recommend the DUTCH test - it helps figure out DHT levels compared to other hormones. I cover androgenic hair loss in detail in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p6G9wLjz-vQ.html

How about low hormone levels due to the menopause? A common problem in older ladies. I take multiple vitamins and minerals but my hair continues to fall out, so it's a natural part of getting older. Taking HRT isn't an option due to the high risk of developing breast cancer

I've always had very thick hair , but now in my early 60s and my hair is so much thinner now due to having hypothyroidism. I lost all the hair from the bottom of my legs about 10 years ago which is a good thing as I no longer need to shave my legs. I also lost the outer hair on both eyebrows. I am not sure if any food or supplements will make my hair thicker again

Your genetics is the gun but your environment pulls the trigger. Most of this is poor diet/lifestyle. Hair loss is not congenital- it’s a result of lifestyle ultimately. We shouldn’t throw in the towel just because someone in your family has hair loss. To me that means the opposite; one should be more vigilant about what they eat. All of the conditions mentioned in the video result from eating the Standard American Diet (SAD).

The lightbulb is going off here for me. I've been noticing my hair is thinner than it used to be. I have for years had hair coming out brushing or while showering due to thyroid hormone replacement (no tbyroid). I have also been avoiding iron rich foods and iron in supplements due to it interferring with the thyroid tests and hormone pills. My full T tests are not "normal", as they want levels at a certain level to ward off the body in making hormones. Also have been dealing with a bunch of new skin things that have found out are the first signs of vitamin C deficiency! Which I havent been taking C or eating much vitamin C rich foods. I've added eating two oranges a day when I can. And I am nutrient deficiency. I dont enjoy cooking, mostly because of no dishwasher and bad kitchen sink. I have just added biotin gummies, but think I need much better foods, and full vitamin supplements not just one thing. What do you think? age 63

Something that needs attention too is the hair products we use, most shampoos are very drying on the scalp and contain chemicals of which the effects are unknown. I have changed to something which has the consistency of aquas cream and I can tell you that it has made a massive difference for me. No more dandruff, itchy scalp, scaly ear lobes and hands full of hair coming out and running down the drain. Check your products!

yes I agree. I ditched all shampoo and conditioners in favour for baking soda wash and apple cider vinegar rinse just a few weeks ago. My drastic hair loss eased to just a few per day. Then I began adding salt to my diet and it has made all the difference. I had hair loss for at least 7 years before changing to a carnivore diet (18 months ago) and saw slight improvement, as was getting all the essential micronutrients needed, but it was salt that made the greatest difference. The recommended levels of salt in our diet by mainstream professionals is severely inadequate it seems after research done by people such as Cardiovascular Medical Scientist James Dinicolantonio. Our bodies just don't function without adequate amounts to assist and carry nutrients.

So I have been experimenting with ferrous bisglycinate. However, within hours of taking it, I am incredibly bloated and my poops are irregular for days. My whole world is centered around having my morning poop. I don’t eat meat. I have been eating more pumpkin seeds and olives to incorporate more iron. Last time I went into a hair saloon was when I was 17. They were always complaining about my thin and dry hair so i stopped going there. Then a lot of money wasted at the Derm only to hear ,,try this shampoo etc". I reasearched the causes by my self and so, at 24 I decided to get my thyroid tested. The doctor was so surprised like ,,why? You're so young you can't have thyroid problems". Turns out I did. Hypo type. She said if you start medication, your hair will get better. It didn't. Also micropolycistic ovary which I can't treat for other reasons. I kinda lost faith in the medical system and started on topical minoxidil. It's not working great but it does something. Today I'm 34 and this is still so painful to me, I'm crying almost everyday because of it.I'm terrified of what my hair will be like in 10years from now. Anyway, I'll try to test my ferritin and go to a trychologyst again. Let's not lose our hope in this battle!

I'm not familiar with rosary, (do you mean rosemary?) but I do have some other suggestions in my Hair Loss Checklist that could be useful - here's a link where you can sign up: www.drkateld.com/free-hair-re-growth-checklist-signup

My hairloss started, or I noticed it, in October 2022 - clumps of hair were coming out and my overall hair when I was washing it seemed sooo thin. I had covid on 7/30/22 and blood tests in February 2023 that showed ferritin at 14 and vitamin D at 24. So the dermatologist stated I needed iron IV and 50000 IU Vitamin D3. My levels were all fine by May 2023. My hair stopped shedding by February, but my overall hair is so much less dense - my ponytail is less than 1/3 than what it was. I do not notice bald spots or really a substantial spreading of the part. I notice tons of new hairs but the front of my hair under direct light is very thin. Is this really TE and not Androgenic Alopecia? I will say it continues to look and feel thinner - and it is diffused.Other than my father no-one else in my family has this. I am not on any medication and I am a 49 almost 50yo female. Or does it really take this long for your hair to grow back enough to notice increased density and overall thickness? Thank you for this video!

Could definitely be Androgenic Alopecia - you're in the right age bracket! Check out this video for more insight: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p6G9wLjz-vQ.html

What about when fine hair is genetic? I have fine hair but it has improved using Bovine collagen, Rosemary, the ordinary multi hair serum, and natural Herbal shampoos for hair loss and growth. And red light therapy from time to time. I had huge hair loss when I burnt out, it was terrible. It has all grown back now and more but still too fine for my liking, am in my 50's

Hair texture change can be an indicator of other insufficiencies in micronutrients - could be worth it to check some micronutrient levels

@@DrKateLyzengaDean Thank you. Do you think we can surpass our genetics?

In many cases, genetics are VERY influenced by environment - it's called epigenetics! Be sure to check out my video about anxiety and genetics...it explains a bit: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sXQ2qHBg8nc.html

Hi, there! I do not have a supplement line because there are so many great products already available (and because I like to keep things affordable for those who purchase them) BUT you can find my recommended products for hair loss here: www.drkateld.com/hair-loss-checklist-supplement-guide

Is seeing an endocrinologist a good idea?
@DrKateLyzengaDean
@DrKateLyzengaDean 9 месяцев назад
Sometimes...if I'm being honest, most of my clients who struggle with hair loss didn't get much help from an endocrinologist. If you could find a Functional Medicine endocrinologist, that would be a better bet!

What about extremely high Ferritin levels. What needs to be done. Been told it's not a concern.
@DrKateLyzengaDean
@DrKateLyzengaDean 8 месяцев назад
Depends what "extremely" means - and in the context of other labs. If iron is also high, it could mean that you're taking in too much iron (food, supplements, etc). Or it could be that you have an iron storage problem. Or it could be normal for you - again, it really depends on how it fits with the big picture of your health. 👍🏼

I have hyper thyroid, with high t4. Had oopherohysterectomy like 33 years ago. I too have thinning hair, but also chronic low iron. will ask next blood test to specifically check my ferrin. Interesting how any major discrepancies in our endocrine system can really screw your bodily health up. I know, for sure... I truly wish my thyroid worked right. So much other crap like tachicardia, etc. A not working thyroid does su**! My mother had hyper thyroid & thinning hair too. Also wonder if it's heredity related? Just babbling... ✌
