Ahahah dude, i've repaired more then 200 hp DV6000 when i worked for HP Belgium ... and you know what? this trick is shit, it unlocks the protection on the motherboard wich prevents the computer from burning down cause of bad contacts on the graph card ... the only thing you do here is taking the risk to make your laptop burn ... and when you ll put it in sleep, when u'll start again, it won't wake up and stay frozen ... you're doomed ... please don't give stupid advices !

My caps lock and scroll lock is blinking... I am not sure about the code, if I assume it to be a 1 blink it means CPU. Very annoying, I will try your trick next time. After all it happens on a very very regular basis. Today I needed at least 10 tries to get it running. If I have to replace this laptop, I will never get a HP again. My old XP Toshiba dinosaur still works and start... Anyway, thanks a lot for your video! And btw: extended warranty is up to 2 years? My HP is of 2 1/2 year age.

I don't even know if this would work for mine because we have different models, I just put in hp laptop monitor goes black and found this. I'm not a computer expert and my first assumption was overheated, I don't exactly have the bottom rested on an area where it can breathe. but if it happens again I'll try this. it did it twice while watching netflix, both cases it shut off the monitor and the audio now lagging and skipping played for a minute after.

I have a problem. After installing 13.6 beta legacy drivers from lechcat my laptop's screen is starting and everything is ok exept the screen is very dark or without any brigthness. I was able to restore the full brigthness by upluging the power cord and wait for the swicthable graphics to change and then put the power cord back in and wait for the swicthable graphics to change again but I am really pissed to make this again and again... Is there fix for this? Thanks in advance.

HP should be Ashamed of themselves selling dodgy Laptops that randomly decide to not turn on.. Mine is shiny new hardly used and it will not turn on - no led lights, no power light for the charger but, the charger works as tested with another laptop.. I have tried the drain the battery etc.. One thing yesterday I did press Control Alt Delete and it came on and I pressed " Start windows Normally" but, then nothing and since then nothing.. Help if you can Please?? most grateful for any advice.

I thought I was toast. Brand new HP G61 Notebook I got from Telus for internet service subscription. My toshiba fan died on initial laptop so I whipped this one out and set it up, then I clicked HIBERNATE and went to work. Came home, pc still on but could NOT get any display, all black. Keyboard leds all on and flashing. I thought it was my display settings as I set it up for a 55 inch samsung led monitor. Anyways, THANKS. IT WORKS. I hope it doesnt happen again. I wont be using HIBERNATE AGAIN!

Do you know why it has that problem? It's the Nvidia chip, it runs hotter then hp was aware of. To fix it the solder on the chip has to be reflowed and after that the problem will happen again unless you find away to cool the chips so the solder doesn't melt and lose contact with the motherboard. One suggestion I saw was to make copper shims for the chip which helps draw the heat away from the chip.

IT WORKEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

1 Solution that worked for me (HP 9560eg): if it is the graphics card - you'd still see the black lighten up the "black-screen" ... fixed mine by switching it on > put in a notebook bag (while on) put a pillow above ... wait until it heats up really good like for 5-10 min (=fan noise MAX) !while doing this put the NB on the "head > upside-down" > did this worked like a charm btw. the computer should have a mechanism that makes it switch off above a certian temperature (at least i guess ..)

didnt work for me. i tested both ram slots with the ram it came with and also with known working ram. tried to output to external display and nothing. the HDD is the only thing making a sound at start up. im a computer engineer (well still in school) and this POS is about to take multiple 12 gauge rounds. I know i can tear it appart and fix it easy, but any other ideas other than baking it? im just trying to fix it to run old games cuz my new laptop has a 120 GB SSD and space is kinda tight. lol

Works for me!!! but.... Question is why does it happen? It's a pretty rare occurring issue on my laptop... but it happened twice today (Though all I did was turn it off, and it turned back on just normal afterwards) Is this something I should worry about...? I spent about 700$ on this laptop, and for that price I don't really feel this should be happening... Thank you for sharing!

@pogofx I agree...does make you wonder why this is a fix. I know that my hubby has his computer constantly working on a facebook computer game with some "bot" thing, lol. Basically it makes it like he is on there all day long playing in person. At this point and time I'm just happy it worked for us, a new computer or a repair bill wasn't in the budget :) I hope that if you figure it out you will update here!
@pogofx
@pogofx 12 лет назад
@mcopper76 I'm glad this worked for you. I would still like to know, out of curiosity, how this could work. Maybe a better question is what is the real problem that this solution fixes. Maybe that would answer why it works. I know that the symptom is a blank screen even though the little blue lights power on. But what causes that so that this works? In most cases the cause of this problem is a poor design with cooling of the gpu which requires reflowing parts of the motherboard.
@pogofx
@pogofx 12 лет назад
Interesting video. I tried it just for kicks, but no luck. I ended up removing my motherboard and baking it to reflow the GPU which is the main culprit for this type of problem. But what I would like to know is how this could do anything from a technical standpoint. I'm certainly no laptop expert, but I do have an electrical engineering degree and this makes absolutely no sense from that standpoint. I'm guilty of trying it, since it didn't cost anyhting; but would someone elighten me?

i had this problem and was freaking out, I WAS ABLE TO TEMPORARILY FIX MINE BY CLOSING THE LID AGAIN AND WAITING FOR WHATEVER TIME PERIOD TO GO BY FOR THE "HP" LED ON THE COVER OF THE LAPTOP (BACK OF THE SCREEN) TO TURN OFF COMPLETELY. THEN OPEN IT UP AGAIN AND IT WORKS EVERY TIME. I'VE SINCE JUST CHANGED THE SETTINGS SO THAT IT NEVER SLEEPS/HIBERNATES (1 of the 2 can't remember) and the problem is gone completely

I have like let my DV6000 repear like a million times, it just did the black screen again after a weak, so my dad flowed the video chip again but he got sick of after a 20 times to. I then send the motherboard to someone who put a new video chip in it. It worked proper for about 2 monthes. I send ik back en the guy put an whole new motherboard in it. Ik worked well for the last 4 days, dus 20 minutes ago i put it on and it did like BAM inside, en then it got like PIEEEP PIEP. what should i do?

I have this problem where I'll find my laptop has a black screen, can't do anything, so I'm forced to turn off the power. However when I turn it back on and use the internet it will only work for 5 minutes before freezing, so I have to turn it off again because I can't restart. When I try to get it to work I get a system error 13. Has anyone got this system error 13 after turning off and on this laptop?

A faulty inverter will eventually stop being intermittent and never work. It is an easy fix though - remove the bezel around the screen and then unplug the inverter and replace with a new one. Problem is, the HP inverters are very short lived - expect anywhere from 8 months to 1.5 years before a replacement is needed. Eventually, the GPU will also fail. In this case, you need to have it resoldered in place - alternatively, you can just overheat it and hope that it melts in again.
@laboye
@laboye 14 лет назад
@houseref Your dv6000s will eventually have the issue again. The first sign of the manufacturing defect in these series laptops is WiFi issues. Usually, the connection will be sporadic. After, it usually stops detecting networks or refuses to connect. Eventually the device will disappear because of the northbridge/VGA issue. The next thing to go is video. It will become harder and harder to power it on until they will require a reball as a permanent solution. New boards suffer the same fate.
@laboye
@laboye 14 лет назад
@Pokemart900 nVidia makes GPUs, not LCDs. The LCDs in the dv6000s are made by Samsung and LG-Phillips, and are perfectly fine. nVidia was not at fault in this case, as the manufacturing defect was in HP's heatsink design, which did not maintain proper contact with the video card/northbridge. The inadequate cooling results in habitual overheating, causing the solder under the chip to soften and break contact with the motherboard, manifesting itself as shown. You should get YOUR facts straight...
@laboye
@laboye 14 лет назад
@Kabloooy The WiFi card itself is fine. The problem with the dv6000 series machines is that the video card (which also the northbridge chipset) overheats and suffers from creep of the BGA, eventually desoldering the chip from the board enough to cause those strange issues, like the WiFi device hiccups. Eventually, the PCI bridge will fail completely, which will render the WiFi device undetectable. The next to go is usually the video. This poster is lucky that the power cycle actually worked.
@Kabloooy
@Kabloooy 14 лет назад
@Pokemart900 It's not just nvidia. It's HP's fault they make a product that is deficient. HP has been making junk for years. They put in the sub-standard cooling components into a system that is very sensitive to overheating. They know about the BGA problems. They won't even admit to the design flaws that everyone knows about now (no thanks to them). They also have problems with their WiFi cards malfunctioning. Once these systems stard overheating, all kinds of problems happen.

If it was the motherboard the laptop might never start or, just the blue lights will light up and nothing will happen with a black screen. If i was the screen, sound from windows starting would be heard, And finally if Harddrive, computer would start, try and read hard drive - fail, and than keep rebooting!!!That was my problem hopefully peoples search will stop, and you wont have to buy a new laptop. Just get a new harddrive if you have the same problem as me.

The 9400 is fine for portability? My dog was born yesterday, and has never been in IT and HE laughed for 32 minutes after I read that out loud! And when I said the guy who said that was actually IN IT, he spit out the glass of milk he was drinking through his nose! The 9400 is fine if don't game and just want a decent laptop (or even desktop) for average run of the mill tasks (i.e. e-mail, web surfing, minesweeper, forwarding nigerian bank scam e-mails, watching youtube videos...)

Well first of all your complete lack of punctuation makes it almost impossible to understand what you are trying to say. Also for the mobo replacement, theres no way you can replace a motherboard in this type of laptop in less than an hour, and thats if you have done it a few times before. Regarding the video, this fix works on most hp/compaq/toshiba laptops that manifest the same issues, and are around 1~4 years old. (iv seen dells do this too but its really rare mostly just the dv?000s)

It didn't work dv9000. HP extended warranty for issue from 12 to 24 months. It occured in month 22 and I contacted HP, but there is no record. I didn't learn it was a known issue until after month 24. HP refuses to repair. I asked to speak to manager. A "Case Manager" is going to call in 24-48 hours. I should *not* have to pay to fix a factory defect. Others have posted that the repair is ~$300... which is more than the laptop is currently worth.

nevermind I just managed to fix the problem without sending it to HP. Apparently out of all the times I played with the RAM cards, taking them out and putting them back in to gaze at them, I think the contacts got dirty from my fingerprints and the computer didn't recognize either card. After cleaning the chips' contacts against my shirt, it worked again and has worked ever since. PS, my computer never really suffered overheating issues, so yeah. Thanks anyways for your suggestions and help!

Third, always always clean it with an airspray. (knock on wood) I haven't experienced any black screen for the entire life of my hpdv2000 series. If you see my laptop right now, it looks brand new even if I use it every night and some days it is turned on the whole day. IF your computer just stays at home, remove the battery while operating it... it doesnt get that hot. Try it. That's my 2 cents worth.

that is Madness !!!!!!!!!! Under the battery 3 silver screw pull them out and you can now remove the Quick Play Panel. And left you should see the screen connectors pull it out clean it and put it back in and you be good Hp Dv6000 1) Why it stop work? Dust form the Fan 2) Why what you did seen to work? Because the screen connectors is under the power bottom
@Schm1tty

dude the recall on the dv6000 and the dv9000 was because of the nvidia chipset overheating and causing mobo level damage...sony and toshiba had a recall last year because of the same issue...and what happened to yours can happen to any other laptop, not just the dv's. this should be the first thing that people should try when their laptop gives them trouble regardless of model.
@Barisax89
@Barisax89 15 лет назад
Just put to note that several dv6000 series have had issues with Motherboards and so if discharging the laptop (which this is esentially what you are doing just like you would do on a desktop) does not help the unit POST also try re-seating RAM and if that doesn't work also then it could be a Motherboard defect that may need to be replaced.

its actually due to the backlight... if you tilt it to the side and can see thinngs that are still on the screen that are white or bright, you need to replace the bulb... very easy fix just buy it on line and then have someone put it in if you arent sure of what you are doing.

that is not the way to fix the problem, you have to re-solder the video card. To be shure... if your problem is (see this video: HP Pavilion 6000 - Power on Problem) See this (HP Pavilion DV6000 Blank screen fix BGA rework video problem) It worked for me.

Wow, that's all it took? Figured the laptop was toast, but still kept it. I can't believe it works now, well, HDD might be going, but I can see if there's anything I need to take off it now. Thanks so much!

Also, before buying a new inverter, make sure that you are getting the right one. The DV9000's came with either a single or dual inverter.... The tare-down diagrams for the DV9000 can be found on HP's website.

@doublenickle117 I didn't buy a HP....the company I worked for did. My sister also did without consulting me first. Hp needs to be put out of business. Spread the word. Send them the way of Packard Bell and Dinosaurs.
