Thanks for actually showing putting the wires into the clip. Every other video I have watched goes away, and comes back with "and it's that simple."

Wouldn't it make more sense to build the resistors into the bulbs?

As easy as the installation is, you have explained it the best, very clear and concise instruction with a very clear video view. Many thanks.
@XGempler

This is the only clear installation instruction on how to install those resistor splice connectors. Well done. But in my search I also discovered that instead of using in line resistors like this one can often modify the flasher relay to eliminate the hyper-blink. I would suggest looking into modifying the relay for your particular car instead of putting resistors on all four corners. Good luck.
@diodedynamics
@diodedynamics 9 лет назад
X Gempler, we also carry flasher modules that will solve any hyperblinking! For many vehicles, flasher modules are built into the vehicle computer, making it impossible to simply swap it out with a modified flasher. For those vehicles, resistors will be the only way to corrent hyper blinking. Feel free to shoot us an email at contact@diodedynamics.com and we can help you determine whether or not resistors or a flasher module is necessary. Thanks!
@XGempler
@XGempler 9 лет назад
Yes, that is true, but it is also the case that many cars have flasher relay modules that can be easily modified to eliminate hyper-flashing without any expense of a new relay, or worse, wiring in resistors. It is best for people to search their favorite car forum for the specifics of their car before wasting money on something they may not need.

Thanks for the video, it helped alot. I used 50W, 6ohm load resistors for a 97 grand am and my turn signals work great. For quick install tips: 1. blue - power, black - ground 2. back and front load resistors must be installed for one side to work properly. Both sides must be installed before all 4 turn signals are working properly. 3. back turn signals - yellow - power, black - ground. Hope this helps,

I've been looking for a short video like this that explains how to use these resistors so I could switch to LED turn signals, but had not found one that showed or explained it as well as yours. I now feel comfortable in making the change myself. Thank you very much. Can I recommend or in some way attach this video to the Kia Optima Forum so that others might benefit?

I just install my 1157 LOAD RESISTORS 50w 6OHM. It was real easy. After installing it, I had a bit of a problem. It was still hyper-bliking. I took some steps back and made sure everything was properly connected. I then "Re-Pinch" the "Slice" all the way down )it was half way in). Then it worked like a champ. You must pinch the slice all the way down!!! (Flush) for it to work!!! Thanks again. DIY video for resistors.

I was wondering if you’ve had a scenario where one side blinks fast while the other is normal after installing the resistors? After installing a resistor on each bulb, one side blinks fast except when swapping out the LED at either the front or rear for an incandescent bulb. Great video.

"Solder if you can", were my exact words. I can (very well) so I did. Cracking is due to a "cold solder", like you said is a poor job. But minimal tools can give a solder joint that will last indefinitely. But like you said, again, you have to know how.

Awesome! Would this same theory work for an interior (home) 12v light fixture? I changed all the bulbs to LED from halogen and the "flicker" unless I put one halogen bulb back in with the group to increase the load. I have to use at least a 20w bulb otherwise it will still flicker with a 5 or 10w. They are small bi-pin bulbs and I was thinking I could just put a resistor along side one of the bulbs to increase the load. But how do I know what resistor value I need?

I got a pair of led turn signals for my Sienna from you guys. Good video, and I have the exact same issue, I think I will need to get 2 pairs of resistors from you guys as well. The only issue I have at this point: I installed the LED signals, turned them on, got the hyperblinking, turned them off, switched back to stock halogens until I get the resistors, and now my turn signals or emergency lights dont come on. I also dont hear the clicking noise from the flasher by the steering column. Could it be that it's the fuse that burned out or the flasher box needs a replacement? Please help. Thank you.

I spliced my cables however, while splicing, one of the quick connector clips (the clip that goes over the metal piece used to splice) broke and it's only the t-tap without the secure clip. I made sure that the connection was secure and put electrical tape around it so that the connection remains secure, but I'm just wondering if that will last. I'm worried that it will lose connection because of the broken off clip. Thanks!

+old school, make sure the bulbs you purchased are dual filament bulbs, and have low and high power. Once you confirm that, it could be a fuse issue. Without being familiar with the bulbs you purchased, it is hard to say what the cause is exactly.

So I got these and put them on my 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix. I put new front turn signal led bulbs before I got the resistors. After putting the resistors it still hyper links. I spliced the blue wire, as the resistor video showed most cars have red but in some the turn signal wire is blue. I spliced the blue wire with the red from the resistor kit. I also spliced the black wire as was stated in the video with the other red wire from the resistor kit. So did I do anything wrong because it still is hyper blinking. I would appreciate it if diode dynamics would respond.
@Shugoneko
@Shugoneko 8 лет назад
+undefeated2012 I just recently installed mine. Instead of guessing what wire is what. If you have them use a power probe to locate which wire is the one providing power to the bulb. Unplug the connector, take out the bulb turn on your turn signal and use it to locate which one is power. You'll also need a voltmeter to locate the ground wire. In this video they use these cheap clips, and to be honest they are shit. Half the time they dont work or come loose. Your best option is to just splice the wires together.

@funnymanseven, if you have a dual filament bulb as your turn signal (7443) then use a test light to determine which is your blinking wire, either that or your resistors aren't enough or not making good contact

Hi here. Great Video and informative. BUT. I have a Skoda Octavia Facelift 2012 MK2 1.8 TSi DSG. I am in the UK, so it is BRITISH specification. I have installed LED PY21W bulbs for my Indicators ( Direction flashers to you in the USA ), and W5W front marker ( side ) lights, but when I start the engine, they all flicker for about a second, but in use I do not get any hyperflash, or dashboard warning.. I think the flicker is the onboard ECU testing the bulbs on start up. Because of this, I am holding off doing all of the other lights like the marker ( Side ) lights and the stop/tail ( P21/4w ), etc. I also want to avoid the dashboard "BULB OUT" warning light. I would really appreciate a brief tutorial, or advice on what to do. Should I just put the same resistor on every circuit., even the 5 watt marker lights. And what value resistors do I need for 5 Watt marker lights and 21 watt Stop lights ( P21/4w ) and 21 watt (P21W) fog lights, and 21 watt P21W) Day Running Lights + 21 watt (P21W) reversing lights, whilst still keeping the extra brilliance of the LED bulbs, but getting rid of the flicker on start up, and the dash warning light. Many thanks in advance, as I know this is a big ask. Keith.

I bought some LED tail lights for a 13 GMC Sierra upon installing them I had the hyper blink but they were plug and play it had a resistor already in them you tell me what problem I have?
@diodedynamics

+old school, you most likely need additional resistance, on top of the resistance provided by the bulb. We would recommend installing a resistor kit. If you have any other questions, just let us know!

Does matter where we put each cable coming from the resistor? Is one side neg- and one side pos+ on the resistor?

Luis, there is no positive and negative side to the resistor, so it does not matter which orientation you install the resistor. Feel free to let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

@rbdoppler7841

Generally, instead of resistors you'd need capacitors to stop flickering. I know my OPT7 set came with capacitors. See if the manufacturer of your set offers some?

If I install LEDs on my front and rear blinkers do you need a resistor on all four blinkers (front AND back)? I read somewhere that one resistor on each side is enough, but I don't know if that's true.

Seal them. Liquid electrical tape, self fusing silicone tape, or the moisture proof rubber electrical tape with friction tape over that.

Resistors for turn signal applications will generally be used to slow down hyper-flashing, not dim the bulb - sorry!

I think I like it too. It does get attention better. And I think I read it is legal to 120/minute. I have read a couple of references to a statutes that say that it should be 60 to 120.

I just finished completely rewiring my 1948 Willy's Jeep. Upgraded stop, tail and turn lights to LED with new electronic flasher. Installed a turn signal switch by Grote to integrate turn and brake light functions. Charged the battery to 12.6 volts. Now when I test, all systems work fine when operated individually. Also, Brake light works together with either head/tail lights, or when turn lights are on. Problem is, turn lights will not operate when head/tail lights are on at the same time. If the turn signals are on, and I turn on the tail lights, then the turn signals stop. If the tail lights are on, then the turn signals simply will not come on. I have confirmed that each light fixture is wired correctly. The head/tail light circuit is completely separate from the turn and brake light circuits (different fuses and wires). From reading the posts below, the electronic flasher should allow the system to work without wiring in load resistors. Any ideas? Thanks.
@diodedynamics
@diodedynamics 8 лет назад
+DAGNUBIT, unfortunately, it's hard to say exactly what the issue is, since the Jeep has been completely rewired. We would recommend making sure that the electronic flasher that you purchased is LED compatible, either an LED compatible flasher or resistors should accomplish the same task. Both are used to simply eliminate hyperblinking. Hope that helps. Good luck with the rest of your build!

When adding an led strip to your turning signal lights, is there a way to make it so the added led light act as ONLY running lights and not act as a sequence turning signal?
@darkfireBikes

If you have 3 wires coming out of the turn signal, yes. Or you can hook up a relay so it just turns on when the key goes 'on'

@IlianNachev

Hi Paul, I installed LED tail lights in my '95 Mitsubishi GTO (3000GT) and used the same resistors as in your video. My left side works normally, but my right doesn't and I am not sure why that is. I do get the hyperflashing, but not 100% of the time. Sometimes the turning signal operates properly and other times it doesn't. For example, when I turn the right blinker on, it flashes normally, but when I hit the brakes at the same time, it starts hyperflashing. Also, sometimes it will hyperflash at all times, even without the brakes being depressed at the same time. I thought that the resistor was defective so I replaced it with a new one, but nothing changed. I don't see any problems with the wires so I am very confused. I even changed the front right blinker bulb, but that didn't change anything either. What could be the culprit? Thanks in advance!

Since I am leaning toward allowing my LEDs to hyper-flash I did some research. It appears that fast flashing is a good thing. A 1975 study by David V. Post for the National Highway Traffic Safety Admin says "high flash frequencies and minimum flash duration should provide the best conspicuity and smallest response times." Easier to see and gets faster response from the drivers that need see and respond to them. Not trying to sway anyone, just thought it was interesting.

I tried to connect a resistor to my Audi TT. But they have two bulbs powered by one wire. Connecting a resister to the one still had my blinkers running too fast. Does each bulb need it's own resistor?? Cheer.
@diodedynamics

Where did you get the bulbs? Often, poorly-designed knockoff bulbs don't have any switchback function actually built in, and they work like that.

@diodedynamics
@diodedynamics 10 лет назад
Aaron, there are no negative consequences to the bulbs or the electrical system from having it run without resistors. However, many people prefer to have them so there isn't a constant "hyper-blinking" effect inside the cabin of the car. Hope that helps. Thanks!
