Yesterday I tried the bullfix (the extra large ones) into 100mm cellotex and I had to use a flat head screwdriver to shave some insulation off from inside of the hole otherwise the bullfix had no chance of opening on the inside. Watching your video I think the better option would have been to get the regular sized bullfix!

I like the DuoPower fixing, I like that they give you a fresh drill bit with every package. Word of caution though for if you have to back a screw out of any fixing - sometimes the screw grips too much and can end up loosening the fixing from the wall unintentionally, basically ruining the hole. Also, DuoPower makes a toggle bolt, hard to buy in the US, but it is narrower than most conventional toggles. Wouldn't use it for a tv mount, but for pictures frames and such, it can be a jobsaver...

Good insight. However, what about situations such as installing curtain poles which usually have mounting brackets with 3 closely located screws? Most of the newer fixings such as in this video are just too fat to fit so closely spaced as curtain brackets require. It seems for such situations the screws and plugs/fixings need to be long and slim to a) reach back into block work behind the insulation and b)for the screws to stay narrow enough gauge to work in the size of brackets’ screw holes. This type of situation is cropping-up more and more….

Hey Charlie, great videos, you’ve really helped my DIY journey tremendously. I have an idea for a video for you. How about best ways to strip paint from door frames/skirting etc. I’ve just spent about 20 hours doing one doorframe using a heat gun, scraper and mouse sander… it was such a long and arduous task. I’d love to see your thoughts on the best way and technique to strip paint. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Ryan

Thanks Matt. The Geefix would work best - provided the circular plug which from memory is about 25mm dia is covered by the hook or whatever it is you're attaching. You may just need to trim the plug down to the thickness of the door surface, with a junior hacksaw or belt sander but once you've done that it would be rock steady.

Thanks Paul. Yes, give it a go and let me know how you get on. I'm literally buying everything through it and will be cancelling Prime when it expires in Feb. As I said to Carl just now, take a look at stuff on eBay (mostly free delivery - and some really good business sellers on there shipping with DPD). Wickes seem to have got their act together - impressed with their efficiency with the things I've bought from them, and Toolstation are also on board. Once WeShop sends you to the website - or if you land there direct via the "W" shop now button bottom centre, you can log into your account as usual and the purchase will be picked up soon after. 👊

Useful video. I used bullfix to hang a vertical radiator and it seem to work fine. Now I have to fit shelf brackets onto insulated PB but they have ‘keyhole’ screw holes. Which would be best for that? I’m guessing the hollow wall anchor as it doesn’t rely on the tightened screw to lock onto the rear of the board?

Hi Charlie, thanks for your videos, they have helped me no end in the past. I’ve recently moved into a new build and going through the process of adding curtain rails and it’s raised a new fixing issue for me and wanted your advice. So the plaster board is around 12mm with approx 20mm cavity behind which is a metal lintel. Most fixings are too big either in depth or say in the case of the bull fix are too wide, (I’ve 2cm approx between two screw holes on the curtain rail bracket). I’ve looked at the method of drilling through with an hss bit and screwing in with a 0.5mm larger screw but I don’t trust my accuracy of drilling and it will probably end up on an angle. Any suggestions? Thanks, Tom.

Thanks for the video Charlie. I have a question. On the walls of my home in Spain I have 40mm insulation board (not plasterboard) covered by plaster. Any idea what fixings I could use please. Nothing too heavy - curtain poles and pictures. The advice given to me is a long drill through the brickwork behind the insulation and then a rawl plug with a 50mm long screw. Is there anything better I could use please?

Great video! I'm currently building up to doing fitted shelves and some of the walls are plasterboard over insulation (had internal wall insulation installed recently). What fitting would you recommend that will handle the added thickness of the battens I'll need to use to support the floating-style fitted shelves?
@CharlieDIYte
@CharlieDIYte Год назад
Thanks For floating shelves maybe a wall anchor. Set it as usual and then buy longer bolts to fix the shelf in place. Floating shelves are always problematic in plasterboard though as they put a lot of stress on the fixing.

Hi Charlie. Great vid. I don't know which wall I have where I want to hang my TV. I'm guessing it's dot n dab, since it's facing the outside and using a stud-finder doesn't really show any studs. I tried Corefix 100mm, but two of them are loose. What I don't understand if I should go for a Corefix 120mm, or use something like a Bullfix. Any suggestions would help. Thanks
@CharlieDIYte
@CharlieDIYte 2 года назад
There are steps you can take to work out what wall you've got as discussed here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jdu9RId7m90.html. If you can't figure whatever reason anchor into the brick behind then a Bullfix or T-bolt should do the job.

Can you use spring toggles at all on insulated plasterboard? Or is there not enough space for it to open properly?
@CharlieDIYte
@CharlieDIYte 11 месяцев назад
Not enough space for them to open unless you get creative and gouge out behind the hole but then you're compromising the insulation.

Tricky. You should always put a board behind if you can because of the weight and anchor into that or the brickwork but if you can't then probably a few anchor fixings.

Hi Joyce. You either search for the product you want at the top. It'll show you a range of retailers selling it and you click on the one you want and then it takes you to the retailer's website and will record the sale in your transaction history. You get WeShop shares to the value of 20% of the purchase price. Or if you know which retailer you want to buy through you click on the "W" at the bottom centre of the app.. It takes you to their website and you buy it as usual, logging into your account on their website if you have one. The purchase usually gets picked up a couple of hours after - you'll get an email, and it gets recorded in your transaction history on the WeShop app.
