"just get it fixed by a professional" is the worst advice I have ever heard in my entire life EDIT: A year later and I'm just now paying attention to what keyboard we're talking about. Apple's engineering is very special, and by special I mean if you aren't very patient then that you actually are better off just paying the Genius bar (or paying for a different brand, or if you're that devoted to Apple then an independent repair shop) because Apple makes their products a bitch in the pain to repair. I digress, if we're talking about regular PC keyboards then my point still stands that it is the worst advice you could give a person who is looking up how to repair it.
I mean yeah, cause we're all a bunch of masochists to try to fix this problems ourselves if we could afford or had the luxury of just taking our keyboard to a pro, y know!!
Blank Dice see i feel like this is meant to be sarcasm but actually yes you are a masochist. if you care about repairing your own product that you bought then you are making a mistake buying anything from apple (unless the right to repair bill is passed). at the very least i would buy products from them prior to 2012 and making use of those instead.
I think it might be good advice in many cases, not all, though. Why not pay someone who does it all day to get a quick fix, that's what we work to earn money anyway. Just because everybody has access to all instructions on the world now that we have RU-vid, etc doesn't mean we need to do it on our own. Still if you're very talented with these things, unlike me, you might be better off fixing it on your own, but I can recall countless things I broke while trying to fix something.
This helped a great deal. I didn't realize there was a plastic clip. It was lost down inside my backpack. Once I found that and put it in the button clicked back on perfectly.
RU-vid saves lives. Again! Thanks for posting this. As simple as it turned out to be, I was lost after being unable to reattach the key with the finger pad component still attached to the clip. Key works as good as new now.
my right arrow key fell off and no matter how many times I snap it back on it just falls off again instantly (the thing that holds it in place and the rubber thing is all still there, I have no idea why it won't go back on)
if it's one bigger and one smaller rectangle, that's okay, i first put the bigger one in (made sure it's turned to the right side) and then attached the smaller on the key (also made sure it's turned to the right side). i then helped myself by using nail file to keep pushing both of the rectangles down so the smaller one falls on it's place on the bottom too and adjusted a little, so all the other parts (i have something like little metal sticks on the bottom of the key) lined up in their place too. this worked for me, i hope it helps you too, next time you have to reattach the key :)
I had same problem. I'm not really good with those type of problems but one of the clips has snapped off. This meant that I had to send my laptop for repair or order a new key. I decided to order a new key as I need my laptop for everyday work. It cost me around £8 and once it came in an envelope I just pushed it into place and wuala... it was done. The website I ordered my key is laptopkey.eu or something like that.
can i get it repaired if the rubber circle is broken and gone , plastic bracket is gone, the key is gone so can i get this repaired or do i need to buy a new one?
Please help. I have a very similar model to that keyboard. When I put the key back on, it doesn't come back up and it's a little lower (when you look at it from the top) than the other keys. Why? Did I break it? No videos say anything about it and I don't want to pay the price of a new keyboard for repairs
Omg, Tysm you helped ALOT. When my key popped off, I started panicking and tried to fix it. Eventually, when I calmed down, I looked up a tutorial this was the first result, and I am very grateful you made this video again Thank you.
I had the same problem, my A and N were unstable and used to pop out when I pressed on the upper half. The fix was to take the keycap out, and check if the 4 hooks on the keyboard are bent, if they are then adjust them carefully and slowly try to pop the keycap in, if you do it too quickly it might just fuck up the hooks for good, so don't take any risks and try adjusting the hooks if the keycap doesn't fit properly. My A got fixed easily with this but the hooks of N took some time and a lot of adjustment, just be patient and don't create any permanent damage inside.

So I did this - took off the plastic key and pressed down on the rubber. Tried spraying air, looking for gunk, etc. It looked completely normal, just didn't work. Only the D key. Every other key works fine. It's an older keyboard, but I've only used it like, 10 times total. I went to use it today and no matter what I tried, the D key just said, NOPE. I imagine I should just toss it and get a new one?
To those who have a problem where the key just keeps popping back up. You have to bend the metal on you keyboard back into its place, by bending it until it's straight up. After that, you put the keycap back in place. If you're doing it correctly, it shouldn't pop back anymore.
The main problem about this video is its being tutored by someone who uses apple but i like that its not some kid who's talking very slow and uninformative and this video actually had effort in it so well done
what about the Control key that has a little metal bracket on the inside of key? I can't seem to get this key back in properly. This is the full size keyboard where the Control and Command keys are bigger than other keys.
ive looked at so many tutorials, my 'broken' key did get into place but whenever I press the bottom part of the key it somehow comes apart (the key and the retainer thing) ive tried so many times and idk what to do...

This sorta worked, my A key fell off and couldn't get back on cause the little clips broke so it couldn't snap back in. But thank the heavens of jesus that I had a backup computer and I replaced the A key from my old computer to my new one. Fits perfectly but it's not matching which is find. So freaking happy right now. Now I can type faster without having to stop for a second to press the button :D
how do u do it for a GE75 Raider my MSI? my key came off for no reason out of nowhere and its my "D" key. I cant get the white plastic square parts to stay the heck still or aligned right to even put the key on top to begin with. strugglign for over 10 minutes with this stupid key! at least i can "use" the plastic nub but i dont want to use it too much without the key.

This just happened to me last night, key-cap came off with the retainer clip attached too it, I tried just snapping it back into place just like that, but watched videos and apparently aren't supposed to do that, so I took off the retainer-clip, put it on the flat attaching it to the metal prongs, heard it snap into place, then proceeded to put on the key-cap thinking everything was in place, but then not too long after it comes right back off, (mainly when I hit the top of the key if that helps) with the retainer-clip with it once more. I checked to see if there was any damage and the key caps look fine, the metal prongs look fine as well, I'm guessing there's something really just wrong with the metal clips where something is broke, I just don't know, just want to know can I somehow salvage this thing somehow, or is this keyboard basically useless to me, cause there's no way I'm dealing with paying for keys again.
@@CarmTzy I put glue on mine since the metal thingies the retainer clip are hanging on bended, It works but its not the same as before, Its much more harder to press and its not comfortable.
Ok so I rage quitted on a game and hit my keyboard in anger and my o key popped out. I got slightly worried and searched panickingly for a solution and found this. As you may have guessed, it is now working and absloutely fine. Thanks a bunch!
