I like the design of that ladder.

Gutter maintenance would be so much easier if they were on the ground 😁. One tip would be to get a ladder standoff as they are invaluable to give you that space away from the wall and especially useful for gutter work.

Good tip. Might invest in one of those! Thanks for watching 👍

@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE if you do buy a standoff ,you can buy wide ones to give extra stability

I think you gutter issues will come back. The problem (I believe) is thermal management. The gutter will expand and contract as you mentioned, but if the joints are too far apart such that gutter section can move so that it can pop out one end or the other it eventually will. When installing you need to push gutter up to the marked gutter line on the joints, the joints need to be secured with screws so that they are fixed. if a gutter section moves around, due to thermal expansion and contraction, it can never pull out completely of either joint. I have never installed gutter, but I had an "expert" do it for me. But when expansion and contraction start causing issues with the gutter popping out of joints. Being an engineer, I did some research so I could understand the problem so he could correct it. In my cause the unions where not secured on a long section (15m). After expansion and contraction the gutter had walked one way, being able to pull completely out of one union. Securing the joints means the maximum movement of any one section is limited, so the gutter can't pull out. BTW: my gutter "expert" didn't understand exactly what I was telling him and didn't do exactly what I asked him to. So to completely fix the problem I ended up a ladder myself to do the job right - its now been more than 5 years and I've had no need to revisit the gutter other than mucking out. I really like your videos - somehow you make you activities interesting to watch.

Thanks for the feedback. So far so good. I think the gutter was probably knocked when the scaffolding was taking down a few years back when completing my loft conversion. Fingers crossed. Thanks for watching.

It's been a while since I've needed to go up a ladder, but If I don't have someone to foot the ladder, if it's on soft ground like yours appear to be, I place a batten across the bottom and fix in place with pegs driven into the ground

I have just paid 60 quid for a aluminium scaffold tower and built it myself as I have to go up and repair or replace a Union Bracket leaking. Not going to lie, sketchy is not the word, standing on scaffold which would be equivalent to a 2 storey house, no bother, going through the trap door and climbing up one more floor is not one for the faint hearted 😅 I may get a handy man up there instead. Got the scaffold, got the part, just not got the legs 😂

It's worth tieing the top of the scaffolding on to the house if you can. If you can't, some diagonal struts off the legs of the scaffold to give stability. My old man came off a scaffold tower that fell over. Ended up with 9 broken ribs, broken scapula, and 4 fractures in his back. He was lucky and is OK now but spent 3 weeks in hospital and a few painful months recovery. So just be careful! Best of luck with it 👍

@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE I ended up going up in the end. Was at the back of my 3 storey. and yeah I had the diagonal one going up the full length of the tower and the 4 struts to keep it sturdy down below too. But it was just too much for me at that height Had nothing to tie it on to unfortunately, so I had someone on the inside of a 3 floor window hold and tie off a rope which was around my waist so I felt semi secure. Got it done but hope never to go back up for the very broken reasons you mentioned 🥴🥴

Plot twist, he has a detached house and is still going around moving the gutters!

Another great vid. What height are your ladders? Or what height would you recommend for a standard 2 storey uk council house?
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE Год назад
I'd guess that's about 4 metres to gutter height? Mine is possibly 5 to the top. So you want a ladder a bit longer than height of your gutters as you need to get an angle on them and you it's best not to have the completely extended as they lose a bit of stability. Best of luck with it.

If it came loose by itself won't it just happen again?
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE Год назад
Yes, that's quite possible. However the gutters are only about 3 years old so hopefully the material has done most of it's expanding and won't be so extreme in the future, we'll see! Thanks for watching.

Yeah, nah - standing with 2 feet on the bottom of the ladder is going to do fuck all for safety. Also probably a good idea to use standoffs for the ladder with rubber bumpers not to damage the wall.
