Six years later and still great video. Had same problem with my 2000 Lexus RX300 (driver's door window erratic). Easy instruction to follow, ordered 4 myself so I'd have spares...just finished installation and window working great...thanks a million for posting video...saved me a ton of money. Keep up the great work.
I want take the time to thank you for posting this video. I was able to get the part online and it worked beautifully. I got the part on EBAY for $60.00 and had a local electronics guy change out the part for 15$. 75$ grand total instead of near $1,000 for a new switch. Thank you!!
Hey I just watched the video of the lexus window trouble. I would like to find the relay switch that you used. Can you lead me to the place i can purchase them from. Thanks and it is a great video
Thank you! I previous had ZERO experience soldering and I was able to do it myself with absolute confidence after watching your video. Really appreciate it!
Ok, just a quick Thank You to let you know your 3 yr old video continues to help people! This evening I was getting the RX attached to the RV for towing. It takes a while so I wanted to get it ready the night before. After everything was done I went to roll up the windows and it didn't! This was going to put a serious crimp in our winter RV vacation if the driver window didn't roll up! We'd have to leave it behind. Then I thought maybe just maybe somebody has made a video of this and found yours! I cannibalized the relay from the passenger side and was able to roll up the window on the driver side. Will order new relays later. We will head out tomorrow with the RX, thanks to your video! You literally saved the day!
Thanks got replying glad it helped you out those relays were dirt cheap at one time but are a little pricy now depending where you get them. If you find a cheap place to get them, then please post a link where you bought them.
The best packaged and cheapest relay I found is from Amazon by Infotech Engineering. Here is the link: www.amazon.com/CR2-12V-Relay-Lexus-RX300-window/dp/B07C58B3YV/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1523982124&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=nails+cr2-12v
@@GyroGerald I bought two of them on Amazon for about $28 each. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C58B3YV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Gerald, I think your video instructions are the Very Best I have ever seen !!! Precise and simple. Keep up the great work and thanks, Jim in Brampton, ON, Canada
Thank you for video. The dealer cost for this part in California was $660. Got a cheaper one on Amazon. Took me two days to install this part, but it works great now. I had many of the problems that others have commented and plus my other errors during the assembly. Overall, this video provides a sufficient amount of information and guidance for a 66 year old to complete this installation. Two more to go.
Great instructions! Thank you! I have the problem with both driver and passenger side windows. They go down but may not go back up. Lots of clicking the window switch before it will finally get back up. I haven't put either window down in months now until a parking valet let down my window the other day. It took about five minutes of playing with it before it got back up. Whew! Thought I was out of luck this time. I've had the assembly out before and cleaned everything and that worked for a while. I want to try your method. What is the relay part number? Your link does not open to the part to order.
Thanks for the great video. I'm going to try this and have a 30 watt soldering iron. Do you think that is too high of power or should I get a smaller one? what do you recommend?
Great video! Very informative and educational. Can you advise where I can purchase the relays and the solder wick? I see that this question has been asked previously but I can't see an answer.
QUESTIONS: Hi found ur video when my Lexus is doing the same as this! Although to order part this site u referred to is not working. Also, what is the name of the product that you’re using to take off the soldering? Thank you!
Not only do I have issues with power window that you demonstrated, I also am having issues with the door lock. Not all doors lock, the passenger front and the right passenger back seat So what do I do about fixing that issue also?
can anyone please tell me where I can buy the relays. The numbers on the existing relay do not cross reference to any search either online or my local parts stores. Thanks-Doug
The auto-up feature on the driver door window on my 2007 LS460 works intermittently. The auto-down works great. Would a relay replacement fix this issue? Really appreciated you video, very well done!
Hi Gerald, I appreciate your video, thank you very much. I was trying to find these relays through your link and could not identify the ones that you had. It could be that the link has expired over the years. If you still have the valid link for the door window relays for RX300, would you please share it. Thank you. Leo
It should be in the description or you just need to look up the part #. If you can’t find the part let me know I might can get you some but they are pricey now
@@GyroGerald Thank you for your reply. I found some on Amazon @$36.00. I was thinking to find on Aliexpress from Hong Kong or Taiwan, like yours, but couldn't identify them. Again thank you, great video.
i have a 2000 rx300 with trouble code b1241 which is no circuit to front passenger power window/lock switch regulator,,,, and it occasionally doesnt work... i changed the entire switch unit but that didnt help, and everytime i open and close the door it makes a sound like its locking the door ,,(it doesnt lock/or unlock it but it does make that sound) the locks work fine,, could it be the actuator??? or the relay likke you changed, or did i just happen to get another bad door/window switch?
Ok.. Quick lucky fix for me was to get my Left one all the way down.. Then Try and get my right one (which is my faulty one) to go up and it worked.. My right door window is having this stupid issue. But once again, I just got my left one Down all the way, then tried the Right one to go back up and it worked. I'm probably gonna stop rolling it down unless I need to. Thanks for the video, I'll have to finish it and actually get this fixed
Because some people don't know what heat shrink is used for. Heat-shrink tubing is a shrinkable plastic tube used to insulate wires, providing abrasion resistance and environmental protection for stranded and solid wire conductors, connections, joints and terminals in electrical work. It can also be used to repair the insulation on wires or to bundle them together, to protect wires or small parts from minor abrasion, and to create cable entry seals, offering environmental sealing protection and are approved for use by UL224-2010 ASTM D 2671. It is a versatile electrical insulator and is inert to most chemicals and solvents. Additionally, it is highly resistant to extreme heat, cold, and Ultraviolet radiation, making it an excellent material for heat-shrink tubing applications. Elastomeric tubes maintain high flexibility even at low temperatures and meet stringent international specifications. Their operating temperature range is -75 to 150 °C. The material is resistant to many chemicals (including diesel and petrol) and has good resistance to abrasion, even in severe environmental conditions. A common shrink ratio is 2:1. Polyolefin tubes, the most common kind, [7] have maximum continuous-use temperatures from -55 to 135 °C, and are used by the military, aerospace and railway industries. Because some people don't know what heat shrink is used for.
We will let viewers decide if they want to purchase a relay assembly that was put together with heat shrinks or relay assembly on printed circuit board with solid solder connections.
Nowrooz I suppose you are speaking of the relay available at Amazon for $28, but that relay is not original equipment. It may or may not have the same characteristics and specifications as the original. The one available on ebay uses the original spec relays and looks better in my opinion. Heat shrink as a cover has nothing to do with solder or not soldered, of course it's soldered, and then covered as it should be, not exposed to the elements prone to shorting with any conductive material that falls on its path. In this case the heat shrunk relay wins again, just saying.
Dear brother,we own the same model of car. Now, i'm having problem of my car window wont goes up. i'm not interested to fix the switch board, can u teach me how to force the window up after opening the door panel? (front window driver side) tq in advance @GyroGerald
at 80 seconds in you used a screwdriver-type pry tool; I never saw one of those before. Who sells them, what are they called? The plastic rockers on my switch are broken is there a dealer for those? Thanks in advance. Dean
Thank you, found one, it turns out, at AutoZone for $6, better quality than I would have expected at Harbor Freight. Knowing what to call it always helps. Thanks
I'm ill, housebound just now, but there's only one of them, it's flat like a putty blade only stronger and a little wider, sturdier handle. It was in the same rack as the sockets that back off stripped bolt threads or rounded nuts. It's a small hands held, thin blade pry bar. If you have a putty knife I would imagine that's good enough. I did look at their catalogue from home and it didn't appear there that I saw.
my master switch only moves the other 3 windows. no control of the drivers window. no sound emitted. how would i go about telling if it is the switch and not the motor regulator? thank you
When I installed a new main switch, I could not lock the door with the remote key! When I press the remote control key to lock the door, it will sound an alarm, indicating that the door is not locked! What should I do?
diudiu wang are U sure it was for the right year model car? Did all the connections look same as old? Did new switch board look exactly as old? Is there a possibility you could have done a 180 with the connector putting it upside down in effect? Or did you only replace a switch and possibly have some solder connection issues or built solder bridge? Without seeing it being there etc it’s hard to diagnose your problem
@@GyroGerald I bought the switch according to the original part number, the original part number:84040-48020.I can confirm the model and the year is no problem! My car is 2001 Lexus RX 300.The master window switch can manually control all functions with the buttons, except the remote control key can not wireless lock the driving side door! When I locked the car, there was an alarm and it showed that the door was not locked!
diudiu wang All I can say is it sounds like you did the necessary research and things should be working properly. So when something like that happens with me I go back to the original and basically redo the job if I have to to try to figure out if there was something I did wrong or if it has to do with the part. If you put the original part back in should be remote start acting a little more normal?
Replacing the complete unit is good as long as the unit in brand new. If you go with a used unit, the relay on it is most likely at the end of its life. You will be forced to replace it after a short while.
@@nowroozshabani4323 I found a unit on Amazon.com it didn't work, a replacement is being sent. This is a pain in the butt. Both sides are not working properly. I hope soon to have it work well, if not I will buy the replies, replace them on m original units and have my car fix!
@@kirkrogers6968 ,These relays have a life of approximately 20 years. If you don't how old the relay is, I strongly suggest that you replace the relay with a new one before installing it.
alex2324, This relay you are suggesting is assembled in someone's garage with heat shrinks. This device is not reliable and even dangerous. Please look for a relay that has been tested for automotive use. Replace your relays before it is too late.
Are you referring to the relay I used in the video or a relay someone else posted about? The relays I used in the video don’t appear to be serviceable and have done fine with no issues.
I am referring to the link alex2324 provided. The relay in that link was put together with heat shrinks wich makes it unreliable and could have a potential to cause fire. The relay you are using is the original CR2-12V relay made by Panasonic. Unfortunately, this relay is discontinued and is not in the market any more. There are replacements available on Ebay, but viewers must be careful to read the description and look at all pictures to make sure they purchase a safe relay for their repairs. Thanks for posting this video, this is great. It saves people a lot of money.
Nowrooz Shabani, you don't know what you're talking about. What do you think cable insulation is made of? Heat shrink is used all over new cars under the hood, on wires, under the dash, everywhere. Heat shrink tubing is rated for 600V AC at 250°C (480°F). Anyway how do you put a relay together with heat shrink?? LOL!! Do you even know what a relay is or how they work? The relay is an internal mechanical contact triggered by a small momentary 12Vdc voltage coming from a switch. How do you put a relay together with heat shrink? lol!! Nowrooz, do you even know what heat shrink is used for? Apparently you don't.
