So I see many people suffering from blank screens, black screens or what ever they call. This can really freak out people since they cannot see ANYTHING on the screen. In this video I'm providing some tips and couple ways to troubleshoot a laptop with certain kind of issues. If you have any questions ask me and rate + comments are always great!

Wow. I just realized this video has over 4 million views. I made this video back in highschool. I started fixing laptops cuz I wanted to buy a desktop and my parents wouldnt buy me one. Working for few months I earned some tips and one day I was bored and thought Id give it a shot and make a video. U can see I didnt even edit the video and the whole thing was a one take. Its crazy to think that me being bored and making this video has made me thousands of dollars, and saved millions of people from throwing their laptops away. It actually worked! I was able to boot up my computer by pressing the power up button for a mere five seconds and it booted on to the loading screen! Thank you for this informative video, sir!

You're a life saver! It was the RAM all along! Before we were together, my now girlfriend took her laptop to the shop to fix a sound issue she had, but when she got it back it just wouldn't turn on. The guys told her it would be an extra 200 to fix so she just threw it in the closet and forgot about it. About 3 years later when we moved in she told me about the laptop & I decided to take a look, turns out the bastards put a tag on the edge of the sticks to keep them from working & I assume to make a quick buck. Luckily, I came across this video & all I had to do was take those tags off & presto, brand new laptop! THANKS AGAIN!

Should I be able to recover my data from my laptop which has this issue? I tried hooking it up to my TV and nothing appeared. I don't really want to hand my laptop in for repair because of the lack of privacy and I could get my laptop back with its data wiped. Also is there anyway to get the laptop working again without losing my Firefox bookmarks? I had thousands of songs saved and it's heartbreaking to lose them all. (I didn't back up my bookmarks :(. )

Thank u so much! I was skeptical coz ur vid is 8yrs old and I have HP laptop w/ windows 10S, w/o removable battery and ctrl alt del or whatever else was not working. I already unplugged the cord and though I pressed the power button on and off a hundred times, I felt it never really powered off. So your suggestion of holding down the power button 20 seconds worked like a charm. My laptop rebooted and it's back in business. Nothing else I needed to do.

ok I've been dealing with this black screen for some time, I had computer repair shops trouble shoot to no avail...I had Office Max run a trouble shoot and nothing. All of a sudden one day, a little note by the battery icon said, this battery is faulty, not able to charge, well I bought a new battery and BINGO problem fixed. Never did it again, works everytime.. So replace the battery. Don't know why it fixed it but it did... Good Luck...

Your windows is toast, Windows has to be in good shape at all times. Try to boot and press f8 to go boot in safe mode, then run antivirus, I recommend you use or buy or download SuperAntispyware, Get the download version and add some money to get the CD too. ONCE you clean the malware from your windows in safe mode, reboot and you will see some light at the end of the tunnel.

I have a HP dv7 and had the black screen of death since 2011( I held on to it so long cuz I knew some day I'd get it fixed when I figured out the problem) I sent it back when it was still under warranty and it was fixed temporarily two times I believe. I really thought it was the graphics or MB when it went out on me a second time. i had no idea how to fix those, and I'm no computer tech. Hey guys, on a dell xps700 desktop hold down f8 for a ridiculous amount of time, press repair computer and factory reset. Note that this will delete all files, including the corrupt viruses.

I have a slightly different problem. My laptop powers up, and the backlight lights up. I get a really quick "press esc to upon startup menu" in the bottom left corner. Then it goes away and nothing happens, the screen shows nothing, but the computer is on and the backlight is lit, so the screen clearly works. It's like there's some kind of hurdle in the startup.

what is the name of your anti virus. Norton, McAfee, Panda, Webroot those are anti viruses programs... But noone seems to mention ANTIMALWARE SOFTWARE, GET SuperAntispyware, download it the paid version and get the CD for a few bucks then run it, this software will clean it ...

hello I'm a 12 year old who's trying to learn how to fix my moms Azuzu laptop because when I was trying to watch anime then all of of a sudden it started to lag so I was trying to refresh it but it then started get even worse so I excited opera since it was lagging but It got worse after that the screen went white and at the corner of the screen it said do you want to proceed or end production or procedure so I press end and the screen went blue so I pressed the off button and it went black now the lights flickering and the screen is black. and I want to fix this laptop because I'm scared that my mom will get mad at me and I didn't really understand this video so please help!

Ctrl+Alt+Delete=Task Bar, find "Run once.exe" and click on it and your screen comes back!

Yooo thanks for the tips! My laptop booted but went black immediately after the 'Lenovo' title and spinning wheel disappeared. Rebooting didn't work, taking out the battery didn't work... until I found this video and held the power button down for 30 seconds while the battery was out (to be safe). I didn't even know that was a thing, but it fixed it! If I hadn't seen this, I probably would have had to bring it in to a shop. So thanks again!
