Hi, I'm Steve, nonda's lead mechanic engineer. Feel free to leave your comments here if you have any mechanic questions, I will be glad to help you out!
i’m about to purchase a used 2010 chevy malibu an it has a P00016 code an i’m wondering if the sensors aren’t replaced what would happen ? could it just be a faulty sensor or an actual problem
@@mariahford9356 You could potential he destroy the motor, the Chevy Malibu sensors aren’t that expensive. I would definitely change them out, so you can ferret out any other potential issues
I have a Toyota Camry with the code P0016 wondering if I need a new camshaft position sensor or a Timing chain and Tensioner I’m so confused wonder if I should replace one of each or in better off replacing both
@@Sean-vf7qr start with the sensor... toyota timing chains are pretty stout, generally- I doubt both the tensioner AND the chain are failing, but you didn’t say what year Camry, and the mileage it has.
@@CtRacerX my camry is a 2007 and has 200K miles still running good, I needed to replace the whole timing chain kit all of the parts that were replaced were all original
I am getting this code in my 14 Malibu. Was told either solonoids or timing chain that would cost 1000 to replace. Vague codes. Now I have to plan for 1000 just in case
Toyota auris 2009 petrol 1.4 engine p0016 code, crankshaft position- camshaft position correlation bank 1 sensor a, this code came on my mechanic computer. Any thoughts please thanks in advance
P0016 error code seems impossible to resolve.... is there any1 in the world 🌎 that has fixed this code.... because really... The people who made/build this cars can't fix it... I have a golf 7 gti 2013 model (South Africa)
ANY AND ALL HELP IS NEEDED AND APPRECIATED I had this code show 2003 GMC Astro later that day it died on me good thing at a gas station thought I was out of gas put $40 in the tank it started up it drove around the pumps to pull out and she died again. It was raining that day. All she wants to do now is crank but not turn over. Also I live in my van and haven't completed the whole insulation or get my vent fan installed yet so there has been a lot of condonsation.
Hello, there are several factors that trigger this code and yes--you're right. Jumped timing is one. We'd also recommend performing the vehicle manufacturer's test for this code to avoid misdiagnosis.
Waaat my man is a genius. Thanks buddy Definitely just started getting this code and my 04 blazer is Idling really low like to point its shaking but when I accelerate its fine. Once i come to a stop it starts seizing hardcore
Have a 2012 Audi A3. Slow crank starts... drives well. It’s been happening for a while. I thought it was the cold and battery being older (2017). Replaced the battery and same issue. Not sure if it correlates with the last oil change.. but the filter I bought wasn’t the same and I reused the filter (longer life). Service light came on a few days ago.. with p0016. First step was change battery. 2nd step considering oils change and filter (even though early) Would like to pursue steps in this video.. considered a new starter... been told it could be timing chain being stretched. I’m trying to avoid that job... seems hassle (not confident) or pricey. Thoughts? Vehicle has 75,000 miles
Hatchback and gas. My skill level is I understand stuff.. do my own oil changes, changed rotors, calipers and pads with buddy; transfer case with buddy, alternator, switched axles on a trailer.. just did glow plugs by self on 2008 f350.. kept old harness. At first it didn’t register the glow plugs, but decided to revisit the job and ensured the plugs were tight, and harness connected.. and works well. Trying to avoid mechanics as I feel to be taken advantage of, plus I enjoy learning and doing the work. Just don’t appreciate wasting time and sometimes the results aren’t what I want.. I realize that’s the learning curve.
@@nondainc That was the only one that I was told, and said they would have to do the timing chain. Except, the same person that said that wanted to replace the turbos a couple years back because oil was leaking... it was leaking by the plug on the oil drain pan. Seems like the it was threaded. So I changed the oil and ensured the plug was sealed... my wife was about to take the vehicle to them and spend $3k. Lost my trust at that point. :D I'll see whether my scan tool recognizes it this weekend, and whether other codes come up. Thanks for the responsiveness.
@@nondainc Only one code, but was there three time 1/3. Current, pending, permanent. P0016 Generic Senor A Crankshaft Position Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 1
Hi Trevor, we agree that there could possibly an issue with the timing chain. However, the crankshaft/camshaft sensors must be tested too to confirm if they are functioning correctly as this can also contribute to the appearance of the code.
Hey Nonda, my car off and i put the diagnostic tool on it and I got the P0016 code Wednesday so last night I put a new crankshaft sensor on my 2013 VW Jetta TDI and that wasn't the issue. Won't start any suggestions?
Hi, i have a 2010 Yaris 1.33 VVV ti. I changed the oil and the code went away for a while but now it's back. Sometimes it goes away then comes back. Do you know Which step i should do?
I have a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica touring minivan with a 3.6 liter v-6 and am getting this code with the blinking check engine light of death. My shop wanted to put in a used motor at the cost of just over 6k. 😮 I’m hoping I can do these things and one of them will work.
Hi I have a 2017 Peugeot 3008 diesel . I have multiple fault code P1446, P15B£ , P2202 , P242F , P1113 , P2291 , P003D , P0016 . and the care doesn't start are all this code related to the same problem and when I lifted the bone I two little piece of the timing belt components.
I have a 07 Hyundai Tucson. Just got a tune up(Sept 22) and oil change (in Nov 22), and now I just got the P00016 error code on the scanner. I’m getting code P0016 on my 2011 Toyota Camry LE with 211,000 miles. Check engine light came on and I checked it and said that code. I’m not sure what or how to do things like this Besides oil change. My car drives rough but I think my tires need balanced
Hello, you may clean the Camshaft Oil Control Valve. If the issue will continue to persist, a replacement would be needed. Also, inspect the Camshaft Position Sensor and the Crankshaft Position Sensor (replace if necessary).
I have this code P001600 on a passat b6 2.0 tdi. Cbab engine code. The car doesn’t usally start when I had the car running and and is warm and I stop the engine When I try to turn it on i get the pigtail error flashing…
Recently changed the solinoids intake and exhaust on my 2012 terrain GMC. Now check engine light is on and the stabilitrak says it needs serviced. Some times it turns off and lately it only let me go25 mph up steep roads and 46-47 on steady up hill roads. Only when on flat ground I could do the speed limit of 65 no problem.
Hi Marlaya, since you are receiving multiple error codes, we suggest to get your vehicle visually inspected by your local mechanic for further diagnosis.
hi steve, ive change very sensor mentioned in this vid and also change the pigtails for both camshaft oil control valves. but, im still grtting codes p0016 and p0018. i have a 2004 toyota avalon xls 3.0 162mil. please help!!!

Giving 2 codes P0101 and P0016. I’m not a mechanic, just a car owner. Any help would be appreciated 😊
Hello, have you reset the check engine light and perform a road test to see if the code will still persist? Please also do a visual inspection on the wiring or connections to the components for possible issues.
@@nondainc Thank you very much for the reply. I tried resetting the check engine light, but I think I did it wrong with my vagcom, so I'll try again in a few days. I haven't taken it for a drive since the repair because I wasn't sure if it needed to be reprogrammed before driving around. The wiring and cables tested good when I replaced the sensors. Some of the clips are damaged from the previous owner, but it doesn't seem to be causing anything to fall out so far.
Hi Giovanni, it depends. You should know first what exactly is triggering the error, so you would know which part to replace and have an idea to the overall estimated cost. We recommend a manual inspection if there are damage to wiring, connections to the oil control valve, crankshaft or the camshaft sensors.
I finished installing a timing chain tensioner and as soon as I finished k went for a test drive and now the check engine light shot on for P0016. I think I messed up the crankshaft timing because I remember having to crank the harmonic balancer to remove the tensioner
Hi Kevin, please recheck the timing belt/chain for proper alignment. Check the camshaft and crankshaft sensor wiring, and ensure that you are using the correct viscosity oil recommended on your vehicle's spec as oil level and pressure contribute to P0016.
I get the code now after I had a new water pump and timing belt put on my 2008 Chrysler Sebring. My car also started jerking when above 70mph. When I took it back to the shop they said it wasn't something they did because if a timing belt was put on wrong it wouldn't work at all, and that I should go to a transmission shop to see what they think.
Hello, we suggest checking the wiring harness first for any damage (leading to and from the crankshaft/camshaft sensors), then proceed to testing the voltage of the sensors to see if they're functioning properly.
I have a Mazda 5 2010 and after scanning it, it shows P0016 "Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 1 Sensor A" but I don't know if its lack of timing or a Camshaft sensor problem
@weehauljunkremovalandhauli766 Still haven't. I can't afford paying someone to do it at the moment because of all the things I had to keep fixing to keep it moving, I'll probably try replacing the camshaft sensor to see if it works, if it doesn't solve the issue then I'll use it like that until I get a bit more stable economically.
@joepearlzz8504 yep, changed the Camshaft and Crankshaft position sensor and still have the same code. Although the engine doesn't do anything weird, but, the code is still there, so I decided to ignore it.
@@ChrisAzure did you erase the code after changing the sensors? If not try erasing it and see if it comes back. But from what I get from research, this codes are usually from vvt solenoid or chain issues… very weird if you never got any issues with this code
Need your opinion I've done everything Change the oil with correct viscosity Changed the vvt solenoid Checked the camshaft position sensor Checked the crankshaft position sensor But still the code exists p0016
Hi Rex, was the wiring harnesses inspected for damage? Also, was the timing chain/belt checked? Please know that even slightest misalignment can trigger this code.
@@nondainc 2015 chev malibu, 2.5. I was watching someone testing the camshaft position sensor, and with the sensor out of the vehicle but connected, he put the multimeter pins in from the back and he was getting a reading of over 5 volts and when he touched the sensor with a wrench, it read zero. Mine on the other hand, shows very low, about .60 and when i touch it with the wrench, instead, goes to the 4.65. Weird. I just can't figure out what it is. I wonder if it's the timing chain. Thanks for the help.
Hello, in order to identify what's triggering the issue, we suggest to inspect all the related parts that would possibly contribute to the existence of the code. Kindly inspect all the wiring harnesses for damage, test the voltage of the sensors to see if they're functioning well. check the timing chain, and the crank/cam tone.
Hello, if the suggestions provided in the video has been applied and the issue still persist, we recommend having the vehicle inspected by a mechanic for further diagnosis.
Hi I have 2018 Honda Civic type r and got the p0016 code while driving...the engine runs smoothly and plenty of power...when I clear the code it stays off while driving normally but when I start it after the engine is hot it comes back on...p.s sometimes it cranks awhile before it starts??? Any ideas would be appreciated thanx.
First, thank you for making this video. I already checked the variable timing control valves, from both banks. They both read 7.9 Ohms. Is it safe to assume that is not the problem? Cleaning them and putting them back on. Hopefully you'll read my message.
Hi Eder, it depends on your vehicle's make and model. You may check the manual. Kindly inspect the engine oil and filter as it can trigger this code also, if it's dirty then it should be replaced. Oil must be on the proper level.
If the crankshaft sensor was faulty, wouldn’t you be getting more codes related to timing from the other sensors? I’m currently only getting one code, P0017. Is it safe to assume that the crank sensor is operable?
Hello, please know that there are other factors that trigger this code (P0017), and you'll need to do some diagnostic work to figure out the proper resolution to this trouble code. We suggest to have your vehicle checked by your mechanic to pinpoint the main issue and apply an accurate solution.
Hi Whitney, to determine what's causing the issue, a wiring harness inspection to and from the crank/cam sensors is recommended (for visible damage). Make sure that the timing gear is aligned, and a tone wheel/pulse ring inspection is also recommended.
