How to fix "Ping GENERAL FAILURE Error"
Why Ping fails with an error "General Failure" ?
When the IP stack in the computer doesn't know what's the route to the destination it drops those ICMP Packets, this happens when the computer's network connection is broken with the gateway.
You should isolate the issue before performing these steps.
- Check other computers or handheld devices on the same network whether or not its happening there too
- If its happening on other devices too, its the router, restart the router/modem.
If doesn't happen with other devices, perform these steps one by one.
00:22 - Make sure the network connection settings are in default state
00:52 - Perform IP Stack reset
01:21 - Check for Outgoing traffic filter
02:02 - Reinstall Network driver
If nothing works look for a third party standalone VPN setup.
In one of our cases we found Nord VPN which wasn't even connected, and was blocking ICMP and Device connection, we removed it and it started working.
