How to fix PS3 Black Screen

when i insert black ops into the ps3 it doesnt show the game title.and if it shows the title when i press it to play i hear all sounda but i have no view

Had my PS3 for years, never had an issue. Today lost hdmi output but could hear drive spinning and menu choices being made. After several vids only this one mentioned doing the power cycle twice. Got me to save mode and a restart found hdmi output. Many thanks!

I tried to do this but all it comes up is a little grey screen within a black screen. There are absolutely no words at all and both of my controllers refused to turn on and connect to the PlayStation 3 at all even after I reset them. Even if I had a touch screen TV I wouldn't be able to go to any of the settings in safe mode to make it restore anything or reset anything or anything. There are no words that come up at all. I even tried changing where the HDMI was hooked up to the TV I tried to unplug it for a while the PlayStation I even tried unplugging HDMI for a little bit and plug it back in and see if it would try to reset that too no matter what I do there are no words at all. On the screen no thing like usually it'll say that it's shut down improperly or something when I unplug it for a while that didn't pop up either so there's no words on the screen there's no way for me to touch any words even if there were words because it won't hook up with anything I seriously need help because none of these have helped me I tried doing a hard and soft reset with the power buttons and stuff and unplugging and everything and no matter what I do nothing is working at all. It's very upsetting very frustrating I tried banging the PlayStation a little bit not too hard obviously I tried shaking it I tried blowing in every little hole trying to get a little bit of dust out if that was the problem there was an issue with that outlet at one point where for you plug it into the wall it was a little corroded around the metal that plugs into the wall and the PlayStation to turn the power on I clean that all up make sure it was dry and everything so it finally has power cuz for a little while he wouldn't turn on there was no red light or anything but thankfully it was just that issue the power cord I fixed it so now it's turning on but there is nothing and on top of all that where all these videos say that they're supposed to be beeps when the PS3 turns on and off and everything to make you go into safe mode and reset it and whatever there's no noises no beeps at all. I just held it down for as long as I could multiple times until it finally came up instead of being completely black screen to a black screen with a big gray screen in the middle so should be technically it is in safe mode so I can you know do all the steps that you can take to try to fix it but there's absolutely no words on the screen so basically no menu even if my PlayStation 3 controller would turn on and hook up to the PlayStation they would be useless because I cannot move anything I cannot touch anything there's nothing to touch there's no words I hope and pray that somebody knows what's wrong with it and they can help me I really need help I'm begging you please.

There's 1 very important step this video forgot. Make sure you UNPLUG your TV first before doing any of this. Your TV has to be be reset as well. This is what the Sony tech support told me, after doing that and trying these steps here it worked.

File system restore fixed this issue completely without having to replace the hard drive! YAY! It said it was corrupt and had to be restored. I went ahead and did it and it's working perfectly now! I can't thank you enough!

I just tried this since my son's PS3 just stopped ... and it worked.... I checked the HDD and restoreded it and it booted up.... glad this worked no way I was getting this repaired before xmas

before anybody tries anything. change your hdmi first. I was getting black screen problem when loading games, apps or anything but would work on a different tv. I tried a much higher quality cable on the first tv and now everything works. our harddrive also said it was corrupted but that doesnt mean you need a new drive, it fully worked inside a windows pc. trust me try different hdmi cables before any of this.

I have a problem.I just bought an HDMI to VGA converter and this is what happens.Everything goes fine until I start a game,that is when the screen goes black and then the game shows up,which is normal but mid game every minute or so this happens again and then the game goes back and every minute or so it does it again.It was working fine with AV cable so it's not the PS3,I can't get a new HDMI cable/to VGA converter,I tried setting the resolution to 720p this slows down the problem but it still happens and when I set the resolution to 1080p only,it goes to 576 resolution because newer games don't support 1080p like GTA V.That maybe fixes the problem,I've been playing the game like that for 5-10 min without it happening but the game looks awful so I might as well go with the AV cables again.I can't find a solution anywhere on google so please help!

It says I need to restore my PS3. It stays on 9% for ages, then rapidly goes to 100%. Then it just goes to a black screen and it won't let me turn my PS3 off so I need to take the plug out. Does this still work for the black screen AFTER restoring it?

I need help....my ps3 previously had problems with games, mainly AW, saying the error "disc read error file 42". The problem was on and off so i really didnt think anything of it.....frustrating....but wasnt too bad since it was only AW. I just recently got a HDMI capable monitor (was previously using AV on tv) and hooked it up and was fine for a day or two.....now all it will do is that the monitor will recognize that the HDMI port is connected.....but will remain a black screen. Is my hard drive on its way out? Ive had it for 7 years so its no where new but it hasnt been dropped or any severe damage to it. Please help

I get a black screen after i select any of those options, sometimes it asks me whether i want to set hdmi as the display setting, but that's as far as i can get, i'm scared of selecting restore PS3 system cuz 1 i wanna leave that as a last resort and 2 if it gives me a black screen for too long i don't wanna turn it off cuz it might really be restoring itself and i'd just screw things up. Quick Fix 1. Turn off PS3 and unplug HDMI cable. 2. Turn off PS3 power switch (on back of PS3) 3. Unplug TV from power source (wall, power strip, etc.) *. At this point the TV is unplugged the PS3 is powered down completely and the HDMI cable is only connected to the TV. 4. Plug HDMI cable into PS3 5. Plug TV back into power source 6. Turn on PS3 Power switch. 7. If it works like mine the next time you start up (component/composite) it will ask to switch to HDMI

It says my system has been corrupted and there is now circle button and i cant take it off, when i start downloading it goes kind of slow and when its done it starts reseting and it stays on a black screen. When its done its done it goes back to download it again. When i try to restore file system on the menu thing it loads very slow and it freezes. Please help!

You know if you have a black screen it's mostly likely cause you played it on a HDMI TV and then switched back to SD. All you have to do is hold the power button while it's on standby mode and it will make two beeps and then turn off. Turn it back ON and it should return back to regular settings.

Hi Man, i really want to say a big thanks for this "tutorial" im telling you before i watched i didn't got a courage to do the menu3 as i afraid of lose data. Hey it only goes on black screen sometimes for e.g. on black ops 1 only? What do i do??

I tried doing this and the system just takes me to a screen where it says export videos and audio. Or it just turns back off. Also both of my ps3s did this after my Verizon box started acting up.

I've done all these steps and I've always gotten it to work, but this black screen happens to me every month or more. Sometimes nothing will allow me to use hdmi. Then when I come back 3 days later it just magically works. Does the ps3 just have a huge hdmi connection issue that is meant to be a consistent problem of the console? I just hate wasting endless hours fixing the ps3 when I could be playing it. I can understand need to fix things on a console ever 3 plus years, but monthly is bullshit

I attempted to do this action in what you did in the video but it never completely restored itself so I just decided to hit restore PlayStation 3 and that seemed to fix it. I did that because all the other options I chose in that selection did nothing.
