Using PS3 Safe Mode 

I am deaf. So all I'm doing is turning my system on and off repeatedly. No menu. Wish they thought to put visual cues into the lights such as fast beeps and slow beeps so those of us with bad hearing could know what to do.

I was able to override the 4.88 update using safe mode! I installed the 4.88 with the necessary firmware to get HEN working - I’m using the super slim Apparently, this wasn’t supposed to work - but it did. Thanks man

Great video very helpful. Just wish the PS3s were made better and not so cheap. Corrupt files happen all the time and the system freezing when trying to log in online is terrible and a fault that shouldnt happen.

A friend of mine downloaded and installed the lastest GT6 patch. After making it to the main menu of the game, he turned the system off without issue. When he turned it back on, the system froze before loading the XMB. So he went into safe mode, chose "Restore File System" and now it says: "Preparing...Please wait". It's been 24 hours and he's still seeing this screen.

My PS3 stopped being able to read Blue Ray movies, and suggested to fix the file structure in safe mode, their instructions for safe mode wasn't clear, yours was perfect and the problem is now solved.

My PS3 slim was freezing at random moments. I had to do a ''File Restore System'' a few times, and an extra repair-scan when I started my PS3, everything is working fine

When I attempt to put my PS3 into Safe Mode the screen remains blank, I made sure I was doing everything correctly. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem..?

This is my problem: My PS3 pops a message that says that the system is corrupted and I restore it (There's no cancel, I'm forced to press yes) then after 100% doesn't restart and the screen stays blank black. Help pls

how do i exit the mode system update when the console doesn't allow me every time I turn it on it automatically pulls the installation it gets to 33% and then throws the error 8002F 165

I use 3 and 4 twice a month. My console runs great and when gta v gets slow I do this and it speeds up again.

i have done some research and called sony costumer support only the only way to fix your ps3 if option 3 says preparing for long time is click option 5 which is to delete every thing from your ps3. hope this helps...

Well my hardrive has been corrupted now for awhile And for the past two weeks I've been trying to fix it in safe mode since it won't start up, Litterally every option I select does not work, it will just say "preparing" or its loading or deleting something, and it will stay like that for hours and not change at all, I'm about to just try and delete everything but that probably won't even work... Dammit sony...

Mate, make sure you connect the Controller to the PS3 via the cable and then hit PS button. It will sync and work!

my case is exceptional, there is another option showing up 1. 1a. change system storage 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

(From future) I found my old ps3 slim and it had corrupted data so I did the steps and step 3 was very useful because I deleted games likeminecraft and Call of duty when I was a kid

this doesn't work on my fat pS3. Anytime I turn it on, it gives me the yellow light. When I flip the switch in the back and hold the power button, it goes to the yellow light, beeps 3 times, then blinks red. When I take my finger off and hold it again, the red light doesn't blink anymore it just stays there. If I push it again it starts up and gives the yellow light again and repeats. Changing the power outlet doesn't work either.

damn alright man. I'm in a situation right now from the last update they put out. I could be bricked too. Hopefully you can get a new one. And I dont think sony would do that to their customers, its just a very unlikely thing that happens to some ps3 owners from being online and them releasing patches that are glitchy.

Hi guys, I couldn't get safe mode going and had black screen with no signal from the tv all from changing the output cable after installing rogero 4.46. It's all good now. I had to heat the two heat sink plates at 400 deg for about 30 sec with a heat gun, enough to reset whatever needs resetting, reapply new paste and then it will let you into safe mode by following the methods you see online. I tried everything and repeated this process a few times to prove it was the only way. Hope it helps.

Use an external hard drive to copy your save data over. One should do it once a year or so, I got YLOD and lost everything

I ended up restoring the ps3... Im pretty uspset about it... I lost years worth or Elder Scrolls (4 and 5) days of little big planet, my infamous storyline... and so many others... not to mention movies and music... this is a sad day....

My ps3 isn't allowing me to go into safe-mode. As I began to hold down the button for the first 3 seconds, the light flashes white, and then yellow. I'm assuming its fried. Not to mention it's a 1st generation console. Any advice on repairing this would be very helpful. Thanks

How long does it take for a rebuild data base in the preparing please wake mode how long does that last to the preparing please wake goes off or lower back on I just learned it it should be on Guinness world record how long prepare and please wait before it comes out of it anybody know longest wait time should be?

If you mean PS3 you have to go to the person's profile, hit triangle and select report from the options listed, don't know how to do it on Xbox though

I have a problem...when i start up my ps3 it just flickers from black to green to fuzzy then my tv just doesnt read it. I reset the video settings (holding power button down for 5 seconds) and it comes up with the available hdmi device available - if I press 'yes' to use it the same thing happens as on normal start up and if i press 'no' i hear the normal start up sound but the screen is just black. Also when I hold down the power button it turns on, then another bleep for resetting the video settings then another for the resart thing however it doesn't turn off, instead it stays on for a few seconds then completely shuts down as if you have just pulled the power out the back of it. Help...this shit sketch!

Safe mode was added to the PS3 in version 2.50.

I accidentally got into an update loop (error 8002F1F9), and I tried going into safe mode, and it did all the beeps like in the video, but it never went to the safe mode screen. It just went to the screen saying it would load the update. Is there no way I can enter safe mode and put in the update manually?

if your friends are not showing up keep on you're own account for 30min to an hour and u should get all your friends listed again. hope I helped :)

If anyone has any slow or freezing game problems like in Battlefield 3, do 3 first then launch safe mode again, and do 4. PS3 works so much better after.

I am thinking about using steps 3 and 4 to try to remedy a problem of apparent lost space. As in, Hard Drive space seeming to have disappeared with no know reason, whether it be from downloads which did not occur or any other data related event. Irritating as can be because I have a CECHE01 80GB system with 74GBs total space, only have around 45GB taken up in game installs, and the rest of the data on my system would only add up to around 50GB worth of total used space...ugh...

I'm a playstation fan, and i dont own a xbox. I told you the game PSABR is cheaply made, and its a fact. Just look at the ending credits, main menu, etc... I own a PS3, and i love it. I play GT5 everyday

I am having an issue trying to download Metal Gear Solid IV off the PS Store my system tells me that there is not enough space on the system storage to download the game. I have a 500GB HDD in my PS3 and even though it's pretty full I was able to clear out about 45GBs of space for Metal Gear Solid IV which is only reading as a 27GB download. So I'm not sure why it continues to tell me I don't have enough to download this game. I'm going to try some of these Safe Mode options and see if they help maybe there is some corrupt data taking up space on my HDD that I can't see.

Everyone wishes this and that like with any game. That doesn't necessarily mean its going to happen. Plus, there always DLC. The first DLC just released and its free. You can always voice what you want to see in future games or DLC on the Share Blog, or hound the developers/publishers of the characters you want to see in the game.... Whining on forums doesn't do much good.

When I choose Restore File System it just stays on (Preparing... Please Wait.) for a long time then it freezes. And all other options freeze it too. What do I do? All this happened after I downloaded Batman Arkham City online...

I got to the safe mode screen. Selected option 3 then got told there wasn’t sufficient data. Couldn’t back out to get another option now I cannot get onto safe mode again

i've had the same problem, you just have to keep trying and make sure you keep your finger on the power button

I have no video output on mine but green light and everything else appears to function fine, it's as if the hdmi isn't connected but I know it works. Happens with all my TVs so this doesn't help since I can't see anything. Hate to buy a new one just to play 1 game.

I also have a question. What do you do when your PlayStation turns up and shows the cannot start screen. Do you do the rebuild database and will that help with restoring the ps3 itself.

I get "Data Was Corrupted" with the code 8002F225. My device was formatted to FAT32, and I had the same folders as you had it.

My ps3, whether it was started in safe mode or started up normally. When I start it, it automatically goes to a system update no options before hand. Then I let it go through the process and at 99% it will freeze and not load anything. I have left it sit for up to about 3 days but it never goes past 99%. What should I do???

or not I've tried every single item on that restore list... something's wrong is like it's not letting the ps3 reading pkg or iso files.. yet rebug tool is on there, pkg format and it reads it and installs it.. flash drives I've only got 64 gb ones.. it's like I haven't transferred anthng to the fleah drive.. can't get ps3 to update.. or considers every single update file as corrupted data even from official exploit site.. don't understand.. don't even know anymore what folder on ps3 o should put the games on and if iso or pkg filme and don't know if I need any tool for it to read pkg or iso files..
