everyone before buying hard drive reseat old hard drive and try usb update But usb drive must be format32 (right click usb drive to format on pc) then drag and drop "ps3" folder with "update" folder in it, and update folder has update file you get at the sony support website. after that plug in usb stick into ps3 and enter service menu then choose update. Sub if it worked for more tech reviews.

My Ps3 suddenly slowed down and had extreme lag. I tried rebuilding the database and a full format of the hdd with no difference. So I concluded the hdd was crapping out. I replaced the hdd with a ssd but had issues with installing the OS/update. It turned out it was just how I saved the update to my usb. Your video helped me realize it was just the file structure of the update on my usb. She is up and running better then new now. Thanks.

I haven't played my PS3 Slim in almost three years. I just started playing it again this past week. I played for one night. The following night while playing, the game froze and after restarting the system was acting extremely slow. It would take a long time to boot up and would take forever to even load the main menu and menu icons. If I would wait for everything to finally load and then try to play a game the game would take forever to load and the before anything would play the system would freeze or crash. I bought a new PS3 compatible hard drive, swapped it out and followed the instructions in this video and my PS3 is working like new again! I'm so happy. I did not want to send out my Playstation to Sony and spend $150 bucks! Thank you for this simple video clip! :^D

Thank you so much for the assistance. When I first got that error back in 2017, I thought that was it. I tried to look for help how to fix it on RU-vid but all of them were helpless.. until I found this video. I threw my PS3 away and never played it in about three years and now I never thought that the problem could be solved. Time to play some old games on PS3! Thanks a lot.

@@larsvijfhuizen1530 First you need to get a usb stick, and go to Playstation website.. and enter 'Playstation 3 System Software (4.86)' on your PC.. format your USB stick to FAT32 and create two folders inside the USB stick.

@@larsvijfhuizen1530 All you need to do now is remove your HDD from PS3, and replace it with the new HDD. it really works. Before you turn on the PS3 put the USB stick on the PS3. That's all. Hope it works for you. Also, make sure to put the HDD in its right place. Otherwise it will tell you "No storage system found." Peace.

No hdmi port on mine due to lightning. Upgraded hard drive but would not give me video. On a hunch I followed the keystrokes show here and after the first reboot I got video back! GOOD STUFF BRO. Fixed mine like this. The fat32 is a must.I had to return my" new" hard drive because one little bump and it gets corrupt. Got another one,GENTLY installed it, fat32 'd my flash drive, got the folders, BAMM. Working ps3.

that's got er fixed. couldn't figure out why it wouldn't find the update on the USB. I had a new back up on it for the ps3 also. deleted USB drive, reformatted to fat32 and dumped the update on it only. bam, works. 500gb drive from the old 80gb. thanks man.

worked for me. fixed an install that went so bad it corrupted my hard drive! old one was stuck in the infinite loop. bought a new Western Digital hard drive (supposed to be unformatted but turned out to be in NTFS after I checked it on my computer - seriously WD? why would you do that?) so that didn't work for obvious reasons. Returned it to the store, got a free replacement (upgrade) for a Seagate hard drive and the instructions worked like a charm. thank you so much! I appreciate the help buddy :)

To anyone trying who is getting "No applicable update data was found" now, you have to have the flash drive not only be Fat32, but you also need it to be MBR (Master Boot Record) and not GPT (GUID Partition Table). Just search for a youtube video that shows how to convert a GPT drive to MBR. Hope this helps someone.

Those butt holes at Sony tried to charge me $120 just to send it in for repair. But I found this vid and did it myself n now I'm up and running..it sucks it deleted everything but I'm still thankful for u..u saved me some $$ ..n I didn't even have to fully format it my computer disconnected it for some reason and it still work on my ps3

Hey! I love your tutorials and think they are the best on youtube for these kinds of fixes. However, having an error with my Playstation 3 that says "Cannot Start. The appropriate system storage was not found." I have found some tutorials saying to take out hd and blow on it and put it back in. I have done this three times with no luck. Does that mean my hd is fried and needs to be replaced or is that something more I can do?

A good tutorial, but the only thing i would add is that 7200RPM and SSD's are perfectly okay, only thing to we aware of is the height of high cap HDD's(say 2gigs). 7200RPM and SSD's will give faster load times for installed games and faster read write speeds for downloads etc.

Hi mate and thanks for a extremely informative ( and funny at parts ) video ...ive been a pc gamer for 15 years and allways hated consoles,however ive recently bought a ps3 and its actually quite good ... however i have some questions for you tampatec .... these are 1) can i upgrade the hard drive with a solid state drive and would this improve load times ( i have a 256gb ssd on my pc and a spare 128gb ssd which i would use on the ps3 ? 2) what resolution does the ps3 operate at ... ive heard its 1080p . is this true 3) apart from the hard drive is there any other upgrades i can do and finally 4) im into first person shooters and driving games .. so what are your recommendations ... ? its allways good to have guys on youtube who know their stuff and ive subscribed to your channel ...you will be my portal for anything ps3 ! excellent video tampatec and peace man !

I was lucky, I had a old laptop laying around so I removed the hard drive and installed it into my PS3. My PS3 now works great and downloads the updates twice as fast with the 7200 rpm hard drive then the 5400 RPM hard drive. Thanks for the info it saved me a lot of money.

you may have to format it to a fat 32 first. You will have to download the update on a flash drive and then install it on your hard drive

thanks man for your video, it was very helpful. I sold my ps3 for some Christmas money and a buddy of mine had one but couldnt get it to work so I took it home, ran all the tests to find out it was a corrupted hdd.another buddy had a 500 gb hdd, sold it to me for 15 bucks and I bought the ps3 for 40. so 65 bucks for a nice new ps3 sounds good to me. thanks again, matt

Remove your hard drive and format it on your PC. Your PC won't detect it right away, you have to go to Disk Management and set a partition to it. When you set the partition, it will ask for the file system, I've used NTFS. After that plug it back to your PS3.

Thanks for the video I did it earlier but I was getting mad because I did everything. And it didn't work then saw your video and I need to create a folder for ps3, and update folder :) thanks man. I didn't know making a folder will make a difference now I know. Thanks again.

it worked thanks I would been at this for awhile didnt know the flash drive needed to be formatted to fat32

Had my system in storage for a year or two..was gonna throw it away. This helped me in 2018...lol. thanks..

bro thank you , its working , also i have a put the hard drive from toshiba in the ps3 but when i put again from ps3 in toshiba its not working any more , can i know why ? or maybe need to buy a hard drive for my laptop ?

I know this vid is older but would you happen to know ...I want to replace the Hard drive on my PS3 and have gone to Sony but only see the Update file and not a reinstall file. Will the Update current file 4.87 have the correct formatting info for a new hard drive replacement? I watched your video and know that for the PS4 for example you have to grab the right file if your upgrading the hard drive. I just don't see a file like that for the PS3. ?????
