NO FLIPPIN WAY. You're my hero, I had the same experience as you, fretting about my new hard drives for my PS3's. Unplugging the controller was the real trick, I don't see that mentioned in any of the other forum things that come up during Google searches. Thank you so much!
You are a life saver! I was trying for several hours to set up my 1 TB HDD, but this same issue persisted. Finally managed to set up the new HDD. My thought is, maybe the controller plays some role here. I have a 3rd party controller that works in safe mode. As soon as I remove it like your video, it works. Glad I found your video. :D
Man I cannot thank you enough! You covered both problematic aspects, the need to unplug the controller and the corrupted file from the download site. I was about to quit back to the old HDD but you saved all my effort!
I dont know if there are comments from 2023 in here but this video still worked the only difference is the update is 3.9 instead of 3.8 but everything else is spot on listen to this man about how to fix this error.all the threads i was reading was i had to buy a new $60 HdlD but this man just saved my wallet I thank you for a very well made and detailed video.
Thank you! Just purchased a PS3 and I was given this error. Luckily people like yourself in the gaming community know their way around software technology
What a hero i tried everything thanks to this video i discovered i be downloading the corrupted file from the sony website (2nd link) now i used the first link and now it worked thankyou so much
Dude. You are the man! I most likely would not have figured this out without your video. Thank you so much for taking the time to uploading this great content!
Thanks bro. Best youtube video on reinstalling software for the PS3. Looked at others and they didn't help. You did. Appreciate the walk through brother. It helped 100% with installing my ssd into my PS3 for faster load times. .
Wow, thank you. I was using the download link at the bottom of the page and you're right, that one doesn't work. It's 2022 and it still doesn't work. You'd think they'd fix that. Anyway, I used the link at the top of the page and again, you're right, that one works. THANK YOU. Christ, that was frustrating.
Fix - 1. Boot to safe mode 2. Select option 5 (Restore ps 3) 3. It will ask to enter USB for update 4. Enter USB with ps3>update>.pup and go ahead 5. If error of - no update found 6. Then press select & start and quickly remove controller (this step works here) 7. Go ahead with instructions 8. Sorted
Man, having done this on a PS4 and an Xbox One x. I can't believe I let something so simple stump me. Thank you for the video, and helping me get this done 👍
Thank you so much! I was so confident and prepared with upgrading my hard drive and installing the firmware until I had the same darn issue didn’t realize until now after work. I followed your steps but I didn’t had to unplug my controller. Don’t know why, I guess my system was ok after all for an 11 year old PS3 Slim. Now my system has a 1TB HDD! Once again THANKS!!!
Thank you. This helped a lot! One thing I did notice is that the ps3 does not always see some USB drives. So be aware of that also or you could be doing this for weeks. Try several USB drives just in case.
Hi I was having a similar issue install update 8.9. This is what I did. First some some hard disk got some bad format to be in the safer side just format it to nfts or use AOMEI partition assistant to format it. Next plug in your usb with the update file and turn on your console. Remember to plug in your controller as well. Right after you get the screen to press select and start at the same time, do that and unplug your controller quickly after you get the next screen . That should do the magic. In the next screen just plug back your controller and follow onscreen instructions. Enjoy !
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I got this ps3 from my cousin in Austria so i was wandering if i used wrong pup region or something... Video like this one should be first to pop up when searching for solution!
So glad I came across this video! After hours of messing around the controller trick worked first time. How you thought of that I have no idea! Thanks.
Hey brother i hope you read this . So i had updated ps3s at least 20 times and i got a new ps3 charging cable and that was the problem i had to pull the cable out like you said . i had done this many times and never had that issue until i got new charging cable lol Thanks for your video brother God Bless!
Hi, i’m repairing an old PS3 slim cech3004 and it has this problem. I tryed several usb sticks, formatted in mbr and in fat & fat32 Tryed several type of firmwares older ones too and it’s always saying that the data is corrupted. How can i solve this? I tryed the controller trick but it didn’t work.
Thanks for this discombobulated video. Finally after a few stuff arounds and a 25% health 148bad sector drive later. It finally installed. Out of it to see someone still using brickback crt tv
From what others have said in the comments, this method isn't working for modded PS3s. I haven't tried it personally with modded PS3s, but from what I understand, the mods put it in a developer mode, and then it doesn't accept the update. I think you might have to try with a modded firmware file. 🤔
@@FairyKid64 the person i bought it from gave me a file to download but I might have to download it straight to the ssd since the download won't complete with just the usb
@@tdurden3906ah, gotcha. Yeah, I don't know much about modding the PS3, but if you figure it out, I'd appreciate it if you could let me know what worked for you. Then I can let other people know as well.
Hey bro I'm using USB has 64 gigabytes and I'm still unable to make it work. Even though I'm watching your video, that's sucks man I'm already sick and tired. I am on the still same message the one you have on your video on your TV screen help me out
I haven't tried it personally, but I would imagine you could. Just as long as you set up the USB stick correctly, it should be fine. The only issue I could see happening is sometimes Android adds its own extra folders to USB sticks when you plug them in - but again, I don't know if that would prevent it from updating the PS3. If you try it, please let me know how it went!
The farthest right USB port is the development port. Whenever you perform a fresh installation or a manual upgrade always use the FARTHEST RIGHT USB PORT.
Following everything you said, It did not work for me 😕 I used gparted instead to set the partition into msdos the equivalent of mbr in linux I love Kali linux by the way, and that did the trick😄 thanks for sharing
Why didn't he put back up in first place lol he would not have this problem everybody knows how to fix this 2 days before I have jailbreaken my ps3 on 4.88 ofw.
@@coquelicotqc5307 you can try to update in recovery if that dosent work you can update it from usb on your usb create a folder called ps3 all big word and in that folder update also all big and in update folder put ofw you have downloaded from Sony web in update folder then just put usb in Sony and go i update on ps3 but this time choose update via s media
@@coquelicotqc5307 also before updateing make back up on usb so you dont brick the console if something goes wrong I forgot to tell you usb must and I mean must be fat 32 format for ps3 to read it
dude i cant get this to work and its driving me absolutely insane, i've made absolutely sure i have the files on the usb in the right order like 10 times tried reformatting a ton of times made sure the usb is fat32 and its MBR, unplugged the controller while checking, tried each usb port aswell, my usb stick is 16gb btw and i've tried other usb sticks and still nothing. brand new 500gb ssd literally took it out of the box and put it straight in the ps3. idk what else to do i've tried absolutely everything and its not working
Still doesn't work for me. If I put in the old HD 120gb it works. Is it important to backup data off old HD regardless if there's anything on it. Does it have update files on there that needs to be transferred first. Thanks in advance.
I am sitting kinda reliefed watching the rest of the video, while the update is at 45 percent. All this trouble since I tried the new update, 4,88 And after I solved the controller error at the beginning
Hey i did all the steps but when it installs on my ps3 it goes all the way up to 98% and doesn't progress pass it. I left it for a few hours ane it hasn't moved. Im trying to install the 4.88 update and any help would be greatly appreciated
@@richardadams9159 Thanks for the subscribe! I just made a video showing how to format the USB stick on Windows: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8A7n3AXKJIo.htmlsi=mGE4SN86q1d19n1G The rest of the steps are the same as this original video. Let me know how it goes!
I tried this entire process with a 16GB flash drive formatted in FAT32. It continually gave me the "No applicable update data was found" error. I eventually stuck in a 1GB stick and was given the option in windows to format it in the older FAT format, so I did that and the PS3 started seeing the .PUP file as "applicable" YAY!
hello i'm brazilian and i'm having this problem, nobody here knows what it is there are no videos on youtube about it. can you sum up what i have to do please?
Hola Deide. Dijiste que eras de Brazil, y, bueno, no hablo portugués, pero sí el español. Pero básicamente tienes que desenchufar el control de tu PS3 justo después de empezar a buscar la actualización que tengas en la tarjeta de memoria USB.
didnt work for me, "No Applicable user data found" error, tried USB drives from 1gb to 8GB, formated MBR FAT32 in PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP format, never works, tried all USB ports, unplugging the controller, tried many different firmwares 4.91, 3.74 even 2.80, the update needs to be 2.70 or later. at best ive occasionally had a "the data is corrupted" for some older firmwares. so frustrating.
@@FairyKid64 yeah, to be honest the new HDD doesnt matter as long as its initialised. but I think i know why now. this PS3 had a REX custom firmware 4.82 i think (I bought it 2nd hand only had it a few days before it died) so I found if I replace the HDD the screen asks about installing firmware & formatting HDD. I read I need a REX firmware to do this,, when I do it errors at 20 - 22%% (8002F147) tried about 10 different REX CF to see if I can fix it but I t either errors at 20% install or the "no applicible data" error, which I think is because my console thinks its a dev console after the custom firmware and only wants that type of firmware. hope this helps others. seems if I try 4.32 - 4.82 on a converted machine it either wont work or brick it, I tried it, but its still happy to try firmwares, so I am trying all I can when I got time (got to re-initialise the HDD every time, as it formats & installs the P3UPDAT.PUP to it & tries to install when it fails at 20-22% for those it recognises.
um i tried all the steps u told but mine is still showing "No applicable update was found i even removed the controller charging wire it didnt worked i need help guys
I tried everything but I can't get to the part where the start and select are hold for 5 seconds ... Do you have any idea what to do? I put in a new HDD but the same thing happens ... thanks
@@FairyKid64 i had an issue with downloading the update 4.91 and it kept staying on 99% so ive read online that my hard disc may be broken so i bought a new one and put in the console. Then the same screen as you have appeared, i downloaded the update on a usb stick and i get stuck on the screen like i commented
@@tso167interesting. I know someone else recently told me they had to download some custom firmware because all the official Sony firmware from their website was corrupted, but I'm not sure where they got the custom firmware. When I made this video, there were two links - one was corrupted and the other wasn't - but maybe they're both corrupted now. Did you try the first link on the website for downloading the firmware? That's the one that worked for me back when I made this video.
@@FairyKid64ouh ok…well i downloaded their update from their own website. I can try to maybe download your version and hopefully it will download the most recent one anyway through its own connection
