I've cleaned mine...and it's still crashing I've done all the little tips and tricks but nothing seems to work. Played for less then a hr before work and it shut off. So basically I have a $500 paper weight that I can only play for a few minutes.😢
You're a life saver man. Kept finding these vids that would do nothing, like changing settings and blah, blah, blah. But changing it from vertical to horizontal, a little quick clean clean and......perfect.
@@digthathole5521setting it up horizontal really helped with yours ? Mine is vertical rn and keeps shutting off idk if i need to do the same or change my settings like that one video
@@joerrelsaguin4550 I haven't had a problem since. All I did was take the side cases off which is extremely easy. Cleaned the dust out of the ridges, put the console horizontal and no more problems. Mine was so bad that it would overheat just trying to start a game.
@@digthathole5521 copy that ! Thanks for replying! Yeah last time a few months ago I cleaned it up but put it back vertically and it was fine for a bit until it started shutting off again. I'll try cleaning it again and putting It horizontal like yours. By any chance did you try out this guy's method ? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xPcm3v7s0cs.htmlsi=qRE_UC7Ktb-yzfym
It's the liquid metal you need to replace it... I know I struggled for months wondering why I can play ps4 games all day, but once I put in a ps5 game my whole system crashes, but since I got my ps5 fixed I haven't had problem with it at all.
@@mar-yc4mp I had this problem. The only way i think is to blow it out with a very strong air tool from like an auto shop. It fixed it for me, but if it doesn’t work for ps5 games you most likely have a damaged unit.
@@joseescobar5703 yeah literally, it might take some time tho within a week mine wasn’t doing it but also I had a fan on the back of it , I think it’s an issue with the liquid metal leaking or something like that
You have the same theory as me about the past overheating, but I never tried moving it until I watched your video. I tried everything, and your idea was the only one that worked. Thank you
@@Dorian_Barber i took my ps5 away from the side of my tv and laid it down in front of me and it still went off so i left it for about 15 minutes and it stayed on for about 8 hours after i turned it on i had my windows open and i thought maybe there wasnt enough cold air coming through my windows and i couldnt feel much myself but later i could feel more cold air coming through the windows so i think the hot air is actually going out my windows and i have my bedroom door open aswell to help extra cold air to come through thanks for this ill have to c how it goes today im playing red dead redemption 2 right now so weill have to c what happens when i play gta v later
Hey guys I can vouch for this guy’s technique he had the same experience as me. All I did was clean out my PlayStation using an electronic air pump to blow out all the dust and have it lates horizontal now. Can’t thank this guy enough so far it’s been about 4 hours no problems playing Fifa 22 and Apex the whole time before it would last 10 minutes max
Sony needs to increase fan speed or let the ps5’s handle it themselves, because they all run at max 22% PWN when it’s hot, but everyone’s situation is different, especially where each persons console is located, might need higher fan speeds to compensate for the heat.
I was trying to play fifa and it kept on crashing mid game because I kept it behind my monitor. Now I have it how you suggestted and it works like a dream so thank you so much my friend.👍
I was having the same problem, I bought mine at launch and it just started happening when Horizon Forbidden West launched... i also noticed that when it turned off, it was really hot on the plates... I openned it, cleaned all the dust from the fans and from the heatpipes (without breaching the warranty seal)... after that, i put it back on my desk, but this time with more space between the back of the ps5 and the wall (around 20cm distance)... it never turned off again... almost 7 months without the issue happening... just posting this because at the time i was having the problem, i couldn't find anyone talking about it with real solutions
Sony should be ashamed with themselves letting these leave the factory and STILL HAVEN'T AKNOWLEDGED THIS. Did everything to troubleshoot Mines been crashing since I got it July last year. It used to be every ps5 version of games. Fortnite Gta5 enhanced Ghost of Toshiba Rollercoaster builder Only the ps4 versions run for hours. Cleaned it out. Put it on its side. Fixed a little. Gta enhanced no longer crashed. But all the other games still do. Complete bullshit. Sending Mines back soon. Will update if the same happens. Try fortnite split screen that seems to be the fastest shut off crash. Everything else ps5 version is 20 min or less shut off.
Damn man. I’m sorry about your PS5. My hasn’t crashed anymore. I also wanna mention I live near Canada in the Northwest USA and my house is pretty cold. Do you live where it’s hot? Maybe it’s 80 F degrees inside your house? Idk just a thought. The climate of your room environment is something to take into consideration.
Agree, they should be ashamed of themselves. ps5 yet they can't play ps5 games properly. I do not recommend buying a ps5 to anyone just about to throw mine in the trash where it belongs, i have an xbox series x also and it has never crashed. Been a playstation fan my whole life but ps5 has put an end to that.
@@Dorian_Barber it gets hot here in Vegas but the ac keeps it cool inside. Also the ps5 was crashing since Fortnite ps5 edition was released. the 1st ps5 game we tried and it was crashing from then on and all the other ps5 games as well. Luckily i really only play Apex and UFC. But my son can't play any actual ps5 edition games. Only the ps4 versions go all day. Very much believe it's a deeper issue. I opened and Ive done a monthly spray down since it 1st crashed so I know it couldn't be dust build up. I just started a claim so I'll see what happens. I will ask them if they know that this is a issue because it sure isn't a secret or rarity anymore.
@@jjsomarriba1584 yea this shit stupid my grandma bought me a PS5 last year, Fortnite is the game that makes my console shut down, no other games do it, 15-20 mins of Fortnite being opened, the ps5 would shut off, it’s has been happening every time I don’t even play it no more, Fortnite was the game I olay everyday
@@manuelperez6196i found the problem, the consoles are over heating just beacause of a little dust, take the plating off and give it as best of a basic clean as you can. If that don't work you need to take fan out and clean the heat sink. Dust gets between the metal plating in the heat sink acting as unwanted insulation, increasing the systems temperature. And Just so you know, once the fan is taken out it voids warrenty so only do it if you're comfortable in doing so but is easy as. I Havn't had a problem since and it would turn off every ps5 game especially elden ring, hasn't switched off since i done the clean. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-07VSIwxOEXE.html only do up to stage 2. Also, if your console is on the vertical stand change it to horizontal. When they're in the vertical position they practically eat dust. Sony didn't think the design through at all.
Was happening recently .. took the sides off, cleaned off all the dust, especially the fans, plugged it into it's own socket and placed it on its side. That was two weeks ago and no outages since. Fingers crossed.
2 MONTH UPDATE‼️ No more crashes. I believe the problem was Dust Clogging just passed the Fan where you can’t see. USE A WHOLE CAN OF COMPRESSED AIR‼️ For real use the whole can and air it out really good, blow it deep in the fan area and some balls of dust came flying out my PS5.
The PS5 is a dust collector big time! If you have animals or you're just in a dusty area, I recommend deep cleaning it every month or so. I had this problem too
Thanks for this video!! Vanguard kept crashing every 20min when I played campaign. I was finally able to pass the campaign playing over and hour straight. You the man.
I think you came out with the real problem. I have two ps5 at home but one shuts down while playing Fortnite the other doesn't. I think it has to do with the liquid metal inside, keeping it standing may create dry spot due to gravity. Those videos asking to rebuild database and other stuffs are just to get views.
Appreciate for the help and explaining all the details. I’ve had my PlayStation shut down on me 4 times in one day and I’ve always had my PlayStation laid down.
If laying it down doesn’t work. It’s probably the power supply has dust and dirt in it. You have to take the mother board off to get to the power supply.
yup, this is the ghetto band-aid fix if it's even a fix. You gotta open up the PS5 to get down and dirty into the power supply unit and radiators and get all those dust bunnies off it. that's the true fix.
Thank you so much for this. My playstation literally got to the point where it was completely unplayable. I couldn't get through a single game without it losing all power to the point I had to unplug it from the mains.. this literally happened 6 times in a row in one night and was reoccurring multiple times every night before that. I started a repair request with Sony who was going to take £240 upfront to repair or replace it.. £240!!!! Thats when i turned to youtube & found this video.. and it turns out that all I had to do was give it a little clean and turn it horizontally 🤣 night two and the issue hasn't reoccurred yet.. 🤞🏻
UPDATE: In the UK heatwave it didn't last 10 minutes without overheating & shutting down..but it doesn't overheat if I play PS4 games instead of PS5. (The PS5 games are obviously too much for the PS5 to handle) 😅 Well done Sony 👏
Dude, it worked! I've been dealing with PS support for a year and they couldn't do a thing. You are the man. I cleaned mine thoroughly and followed your instructions and now I can get back on the grind.
I've started having this issue about two weeks ago when i started playing Elden Ring, first i thought it was the game which it might be but then it happened while playing fortnite and then when playing Tiny Tina's. I've redownloaded Tiny Tina's ps4 version on the ps5 to test it if it's ps5 version of the games or not and to see if i have a hard crash but i looked a bit deeper, then started thinking it might have something to do with the software but still not sure but i do think it's the heatsink overheating due to dust clog but also the PSU could be the issue here. I think the PSU is getting too hot from overheating and causing a handcrash because the vents on that could be dusty as well and it's very large but you have to take the whole system apart to clean those since they're not accessible from just taking off the fan which is the crummy part but if yo7 do manage to clean them just relocate your system and see if that works. I also like to add that i did not give it time to cool down since that wasn't my initial thought and i did unplug from the back and plug it back in to turn it on each time it crashed but now I'm wondering if i gave it an hr to cool off, would it turn back on without me having to unplug it? Idk if it's a safety net to keep it protected which is why it says you turned the system off improperly, it might be progammed to not turn on when it's that hot but when we unlpug it, it resets it. That's my guess so far, since I've switched to playing ps4 games only on the 5 I've had zero crashes.
You make a great analysis. Please update us further here. If you take apart your system and clean it let me know. Tell me how the Heat Sink looks. Thanks man.
@@Dorian_Barber took it apart, cleaned it up ( looked like a dust factory...) and it crashes no more.. it was a combination of the heatsink and the psu overheating, I'm thinking it was more of the psu causing a crash with no warning than the heatsink but the vents we're caked with dust, the temp is now back to normal and no more crashes. Ps5 games work as normal. It was a good amount of dust for a years worth but definitely to be expected because the vents are much larger, allowing more to go in.
@@aviree7976 just take it apart and clean it. Take off the fan and look inside, I bet all the vents are covered in dust. It will take no effort, just need the torx screw, a plier and an air can. It's definitely an overheating issue.
If this is happening to do you absolutely need to get it repaired or replaced. Sure doing this may fix the problem but your system is still faulty or damaged, because the PS5 is not meant to overheat regardless if its in vertical or horizontal. Matter a fact the PS5 was mainly designed for the vertical position.
Thank you thank you!!!! Omg mine was doing same, but as soon as I turned it flat and moved to a better area with more air flow! It’s working great 👍🏼 great video btw thanks so much
I’m happy this helped, remember to get a can of compressed air and blow it really deep in the fan area. Some chunks of dust came out of my PS5 and I believe it was blocking the airflow just passed the fan.
Mine was overheating too - I had it standing up on the floor (wood, not carpet don't worry!) next to my TV stand. Gave it a blast and cleared out the dust and now have it stood up on a stool, based on what you're saying about the heat being pushed out downwards it was probably suffocating itself with the heat, now it'll be pushing it below the stool so fingers crossed I don't get any more errors.
if your ps5 is shutting off and you feel the bottom left side (if ps5 is verticle) or top left side ( if ps5 is horizontal) and it's really hot, then the airvents on the powersupply inside is clogged with dust. and you have to open it up completely and manually remove the dust. that's what happened to mine i opened it up and it and the airvents from the powerblock was completely clogged, i cleaned it and all the other dust inside the entire console and boom, my ps5 is nice and cool, stopped shutting off, and all the hot air is coming out the back. it takes awhile but it's totally worth it trust me i used my Ifixit tool kit to open it up - it has literally every screw tip you need to open any console even computer and an electronic compressed air dust spray and watched a tutorial on youtube to open it up
It’s funny that journalist are defending the ps5 trying to claim that putting it vertically doesn’t hurt the console but here we all are saying yes it did
Same thing happened to me few days ago, i got PS5 at release, didn't clean it at all, so about year and half and it was all dusted inside when i disassemble it, cleaned it and turn it back on and no problem so far... Happened when i was playing FIFA22 after 1 game which is about 20-30 minutes, played it yesterday for about 6h straight no problem... The problem was definitely overheating of Power supply (PSU) and ps5 just turns off without overheating warning and wont turn on for 1-2h, when i started it there was no error message or anything like that... I think there was no warning of overheating because it didn't involve CPU or GPU overheating but the Power unit which has no sensor of heat... That's my explanation of what happened...
I think Sony is being very cagey about talking about crashes, errors or even upping the fan speed. They are hyper paranoid about bad press so we have to work around them, sadly. Mine is basically perfect & dustless but there’s a few games out of a hundred that just crash constantly. It’s so damn annoying
Thanks for sharing this video bro I have the 1100 series ps5 and I used to get the temperature alert playing certain games with it standing vertical I thought maybe I had a defective ps5 and was about to return it for another one but after watching your video and laying it horizontal the problem was solved just like that I couldn’t believe such a simple fix worked I was racking my brain trying to figure out why this was happening to brand new console thank you
I also tried every way to avoid overheating and closing at ps5 games. i purchased ps5 fans, i opened it and cleaned it inside, i did the safe mode procedure. The only thing that worked is to turn it horizontal. Thanks for this video saved my life
Sounds like your advice is working for a lot of people which is good. Personally, when I played Hogwarts Legacy maybe 8 months ago and experienced my system suddenly turning off, I only felt the front of my system near the power button and the disc drive and there was definitely slight overheating. I'm sure the rear of the system was just as warm, at least. Since I had no warranty for my PS5, I took it upon myself to disassemble my system and clean dust that was lodged primarily in the fan and especially in the heatsink. I don't recommend anyone to disassemble their PS5 unless you're experienced enough to work with disassembling consoles and other computers but after clearing the dust, I could sit my PS5 vertically again and play Hogwarts Legacy with no overheating or instant turn-off. Cleaning out the dust from the PS5, depending on where you place your system (meaning the inside of your system will accumulate dust more rapidly depending if it's in an open-spaced area or not) can be something that needs to be performed at least once per year or even twice per year. I don't recommend letting the PS5 just sit in something like a cabinet, though. I see a lot of people online making videos of their console (I'm talking about any modern console now) as it sits in a cabinet and later wonder why the "jet engine" sound happens so quickly.
Tip : Get a can of Compressed Air. The PS5 fan might look clean from the outside, but deeper inside where you can’t see you might have some dust clog. So air blow that PS5 deep inside the fan.
Didn’t have compressed air but I had a little vacuum to suck any access dust out and I did a really good clean, I took the fan out cleaned it spotless then cleaned a layer of dust on the upper heat sync closest to the fan. I also blew through the heat sync making sure there was no dust inside and there wasn’t much, if any that came out the back of the ps5. I’m coming to the conclusion that only certain games will shut of it off and only if I’m playing them for a longer duration of time. I’ve been just shutting it off whenever it feels too warm or if go to do anything to keep it more cool and that seems to work so far but still really annoying.
Dude, thank you so much, I did all the first steps and it never worked and I'm glad I clicked on your video becasue you helped me so much with my ps5 now I can play my games in peace!
Awesome video thanks a bunch I got my PS5 on release day and this just started happening in the last month over two years I play it everyday watch all my TV through it thanks a bunch for the help
I am here to also confirm that this method works for me, so if anyone be it a few months from now or even 7 years from now try this if the problem persists.
Nun of that worked my PlayStation is in a open space and it’s in my cold basement it still shuts off I layed it on Its said it still doesn’t work so I went to Walmart and got a small fan and put it at the front and layed my PlayStation down so the fan is blowing in the top and pushing the hot air out and I haven’t had a problem since and I play rust for 24 straight sum days and I don’t have that problem anymore I hope this can help other people fix this issue in till PlayStation figures the problem out
This is straight bull shit I’ve done everything I cleaned it out three times, Play broadside put it standing up still crashes either way, rebuild the database put it in safe mode, unplugging out unnecessary things that were plugged into the consul, plugged into a hard line wall, given the PS 5 tons of room to be able to breathe, even deleted the games and reinstalled them clear the cache done everything that you can possibly think to do nothing works I’m lost on what to do at this point
Bro I just found your video and the same exact thing happen to me as I was playing Elden Ring it shut off 2 times on me. Thanks for your help my friend
My ps5 just stops working like I'll be playing a game and it just cuts to black and theres no sound no turning off screen just black and its happening every time i play for more than 30 minutes
Mine did it today for the first time. I got mine close to the end of last year. I have the Dbrand dark plates 2.0 with the mesh grill over the vents. You would think I wouldn’t have an overheating problem with the extra air flow but I think the mesh grills were holding to a lot of dust and clogged up, preventing air from flowing out. IDK for sure but I’ll find out soon haha.
So I had this same problem, and had a headache trying to fix it. Tried everything you said and more, but the problem is that when the PS5 is standing up, the power supply overheats and that's why you don't even get a warning before it shuts down. Unfortunately, just today my PlayStation shut down when it was laying on its side. I hope this problem doesn't persist
BRO THANK YOU IVE TRIED EVERYTHING EXCEPT FOR THIS you literally saved me from getting banned from ranked every five seconds cause of my ps5 randomly shutting off
Just rearranged my setup and placed it horizontally, will update with the results after a week or less! Edit: Day one: not a single restart but damn my desk has no space due to that massive PS5 being horizontally placed lol Day two: not a single restart either, this time I played for 6+ hours and even used rest mode, no shutdown to be seen Day three: got a bit of compressed air and lightly tried to clean it without taking it apart, I even decided to place it vertically again and not a single restart so far, been playing PS4 and PS5 games, even some PS3 via cloud but those aren’t demanding at all It's been two weeks and it hasn't restarted or shutdown a single time I placed it horizontally and vertically and it works great either way, on both PS4 and PS5 games Cleaning the fans with some compressed air without taking it apart and reinstalling the OS fixed it for me
Things I tried before: Rebuilding the data base, it did nothing Using another set of cables, nothing Disabling one touch play and HDCP, did nothing Reinstalled the OS via the internet, so far it hasn’t restarted since I did that alongside cleaning it a bit and placing it horizontally, it’s been three days and will update with new info.
What I think is going on: The PS5 is not overheating because I’ve never gotten a single message of that happening, and PS5 tells you on screen when that’s the case, I’ve never seen that. Some pins of the APU (the PS5’s brain) are getting dislodged with the heat during gaming and that’s why it crashes and won’t turn back on, this was also an issue with PS3 so it doesn’t shock me, it can happen again therefore However placing it horizontally will reconnect those pins with the help of gravity and heat will resolder them internally, fixing the problem This has been an issue with many electronics such as the PS3, some MacBooks and my OG Xbox therefore that’s my current theory
@@FTFJohn absolutely I made sure to reinstall the OS, clean the fan and placed it sideways and it hasn't frozen or shutdown a single time And I use rest mode 24/7 now
Yup, I went ahead and bought a new PS5 cause of this issue. I replaced the fan myself because I thought the fan was bad, it probably wasn't and I threw it out by mistake and thought the new fan would help. It did for a bit. Then the ps5 started shutting off again, brought it to a shop, they told me it's a motherboard issue and they couldn't fix it. Yet, it still works and turns on so I Said f it, and bought another one and now will have 2 ps5s that work but just need better air circulation. Don't make my mistake. Thanks for the video
I think this has something to do with the cooling indeed, AND CONSIDERING THE LIQUID METAL INSIDE ALSO THAT I THINK DOESNT COVER THE PROCESSOR FULLY WHEN YOU PUT IT UPRIGHT. HORIZONTAL IS THE WAY TO GO.
Your placement of the system horizontally may just help but it definitely wasn't my problem. I've had it horizontal and in the open from day 1. In 16 months I never cleaned my ps5. Started shutting off on ps5 dead by daylight and fortnite only. When it happened you could feel intense heat from the power supply unit in the rear. It wasn't awful but there was dust! Clean your fan blow out that heat sink. I did a week ago. Hasn't happened again since. I'll have better upkeep from now on!
I’m gonna thoroughly clean mine out tomorrow because just turning it on the side and giving it breathing room worked for a few months since NBA 2K23 came out it’s been happening consistently and it’s getting stressful.
man i havent tried yet, but i never enjoyed videos people talking that much, and I dont know whay You makes it satisfying!! haha thankjs man appreciate it !!
@@Dorian_Barber That's cool bro listen did you heard of the sad 980 pro? Because I was watching a video 2 weeks ago and some guy was talking about it saying that it was very good gives the ps5 more memory space to play over 100 games I'm thinking about getting it but it cost alot of money over for what I saw 288 dollars at best buy so I was hoping if you probably got it to let me know if you can really play over 100 games anot haven't to erase a game eventide I get one.
I have a better idea than that it sounds pretty crazy but it worked for me on the top of your PlayStation 5 draw a small design with a couple of dots anything that you desire disconnect the top of the PS5. find the smallest drill bit that you can find in your house and drill holes in the lid of the PS5. BUT first remove the lid from the system first.. put it back on and what you're doing is you're creating an extra ventilation system it sounds crazy but trust me that heat will go out of those extra holes you have drilled in if you want to go further you can add a small computer fan on top of the holes as the air leaves the hose the computer fan will suck out the HOT air even quicker.
Someone with a engineering degree got paid and didn’t know that the lay down position was best to use? I hope it works for me. Mine is standing with a huge fan blowing on the backs of it and I still crashes and I also get amessage on screen that my ps5 is overheating.
YUP!!! i’ve had mine since 5 months after release & it was perfect up until 2 weeks ago when my buddies started having issues too. started shutting off multiple times a day & it was getting super hot. so decided to super clean it (as if it wasn’t already clean), then took the top cover off & kept it laying down. made sure it was well ventilated so the air could blow away & it hasn’t shut off since. i’ve now been playing for 3 hours straight when usually it would’ve shut off already.
I removed the metal fan guards from each side of the fan and I think it’s breathing easier now. Mine is generally flawless with no crashes except for just a few PS4 titles that crash constantly. Rage2, RE3R, GoT(PS4) and Blops3 crash every half hour. It’s either bad drivers from Sony on the clock speed for back compat or I’ve got bad silicone lottery. A shame because 95% of all games run perfect. Oh well
Yeah I did all this, can't rock Baldur's Gate 3, crash at the title screen... changed its verticality, turned off all the things, moved the power, it's brand new so what dust, updated it in what I can only describe as an archaic process, told it to preform better, even got motivational with it... nothing, still baldur blocking me...hell just crashed launching bannerlord.... guess it's back to Xbox and I'll exchange this tomorrow.... but damn 😅
I did these things before the update and it worked. After I updated to the latest firmware it started shutting down on ps5 games after 30 minutes to 1 hour of play.
I pinned a comment saying more info. Did you read it? I said that I think the problem is dust clogging the Fan area, you can’t see dust passed the fan area. I used a WHOLE CAN of compressed air and some chunks of dust came out of the other fan side. Try that. You PS5 probably isn’t getting the air intake it needs.
@@Dorian_Barber I took out the fan and cleaned it in addition to the area around where the fan was situated. I'm still having the same issues. Playing PS4 games runs smoothly and I can feel cold air out the back of my ps5.
I took the off cleaned all the dust and left the side of the PlayStation off hadn’t had problems since. They way they made the system is made to over heat make sure u clean for sure
