Some tips for anyone attempting this, if you need to replace the gear levers/links and they have those rubber bushings on the end boil some water pour it in a cup and then dip the rubber into the cup for like 30-60 seconds then it will pop on with relative ease it softens the rubber and once its on it hardens up and won't slip off.
Thanks a lot mate - My gear linkage slipped off, only gears 3rd and 4th were available mk 4 golf - this walk through helped me spot the flailing rod, saved me in a real tight spot the night before I was about to travel ~8hrs 😅 thanks!
You should have show how the linkage mechanism is removed from the car. I had several failures and I managed to work it out after spending ages taking pictures and sharing on forums. You have to pop out the linkage from the brackets and then unbolt the brackets from the gearbox/subframe. The ball shapped bush on mine is completely shot part on my 1J0711076G 096B, I can't see it sold anywhere online. I will speak to TPS when they open see if they have it. Chances are they will want £50 or more for the bracket. Not sure if I should just wait and order from china, The other rubber slider mehanism doesn't seem to be sold online - I may need to extract it and make my own with some plastic. Glue on extra material from the plastic slider in the hopes that it works fine,.
Hello, Your video was very helpful. Thank you for that. I have a few questions: 1. On the bottom of the gear handle (in cabine), there is a plastic ball within a kind of plastic round part. Do you know what is it OEM number? 2. Where I can find a catalogue of MK4 VW Bora parts? Thank you!!
Hi. Great video. Can you please help me? Can you tell me the lenght of the shorter plastic linkage, the one you hold in your hand at 1:55? The lenght between the centers of the hols. Thatk you. 😊
Thank you too for watching! It's a lot of work, you have to lift the car up to have access under the car. Start with checking the parts that are on the upper side of the gear box.
Can someone please help me. I can't find a fix for my help. When I shift into first the shift knob moves to the right like if its in third once I let it go. what can I do to make it not look like it's in third when I'm in first gear is it a bushing issue and if so which one.
You have to check all the parts that is showing in the video and replace the one with the problem. Start with those from the top of the gearbox, you can reach more easily there.
The part which you are holding at 1:37... What is the name of the part and could you share the part number? Its the part that prevents you from engaging reverse when engaging 1; the black plastic part that hooks onto the metal part to keep the car in reverse. Please, need name and/or part number asap. Part number should be on the plastic part itself
Thank you for your valuable sharing video. I have same problem for my car vw golf 4 2001 model manuel. The part of mechanism has 1 rod, instead of 2 rod that vw 2005 model. Thşs video contains vw golf5 code and show us the code number clearly. But ı dont know golf4 code number for this part of mechanism. So ı can not share number to 5:01 service to look for the mechanism. Please could you share golf4 gear mechanism code number? Thx for attention. (Code number=serial number)
hi, you pointed toward my now exact same problem. i need to replace the shifting rod bushing (the rod you hold in your hand) how do you take out the whole assembly so i can change the bushing?
Do you know if that shift mechanism which are on the shifter lever over the gearbox is not lubricated or greased? I've listened a harsh or raspy changes in all 5 rels when the car is hot after power on. When it's cold or has recently starting it's silence when I shift. I don't know why?
@@Servicetutorials or just explain in text that they're push fit parts, you just get a screwdriver in and press up against another metal part to lever it off. Figured it out.
I have the same problem with my polo car and shifting from 4th to 5 th gear is a struggle is it possible I can take the car to a car service centre to have my gear shift parts to be replaced ?
you can recreate this with zip ties, tie loads of zip ties, make it nice and tight so the zip ties dont overlap each other. then use a final zip tie to tie all the zip ties together to prvent them from sliding off. The alternative is to buy a pattern part (whole part) from autodoc and replace it.
Not 100 procent informative unfortunately, nothing how to remove it very bad. Could be awesome but it would be helpful if the Vlogger informe all thing step by step
