For all those of you who still struggle with this, this worked for me: Testing the button with another one (doesn't matter which, just make sure the black rubber pad aligns and then click it). If this makes the malfunction go away, you know your button is the culprit. I simply glued some tinfoil on it and it works like a charm now. Might not last ages (going on 3 weeks now) but it's a 5 minute repair without any parts/ordering.

Followed your instructions in a 10+ year old Motorola RC keypad. It worked perfect! Changed volume and up-arrow rubber pads for others that took from not-in-use buttons and could revive it! Thanks for the vid...

So clever getting just the rubber buttons, I have 6 lab instruments and the keyboards are expensive or not available, thanks for the idea. Also just picking the ones that aren't used is a good idea for remotes.

GENIUS, i tried the other methods like opening the controller and cleaning the contacts with alcohol and it would work for about 3 days, finally after the last time i got mad and just resorted to getting up and physically turning the tv up and down with the dial on my receiver, this went on for about 3 weeks then today i got tired of it and decided to try my luck again with a fix, i stumbled across this video, i ran and cut the contacts off an old tv remote and cut the contact off my receiver remote did a switcheroo and now my receiver remote works as good as new, thanks so much buddy, hope you have great day.

Thanks for the video. But instead of cutting the black things and gluing them again, can you just use a scissors and cut off the whole rubber button section and just trim the replacement buttonin it's slot?

It may help for a short period of time but if you want to do it right, those black pads should be replace with the new ones.

Good tip! But before I cut the rubber pads of my gameboy color rubber pads, I will first try a graphite contact spray. Don't want to order from Ali Express and you can't really trust these conductive pads. Some may be bad. I've already ordered a new replacement rubber pad for my Gameboy but the contact was even much worse than with the worn original pad. I think the conductive surface on it is just cheap.
@ElectronicsComputers
@ElectronicsComputers 4 года назад
I've never had any issues with the pads from the link down below.

@@Thunderbird1337 I have applied a tiny amount of graphite powder with a cotton swab on the button surface. It is a waiting game but it certainly does the trick in the beginning. How did your experiment work out?

Actually my problem is random buttons on joypads/keyboards etc being more "limp" than others. so when it comes to pressing a button (or direction) down it usually has a certain amount of resistance before it lets the button press in, however some buttons give way much easier giving them a spongy/limp/weak feel. It's infuriating when it's a joypad and one of the directions does this or when you try to press two buttons at once, since one presses in much easier it throws you off and you feel it constantly with that slight difference. I have NO idea how to fix that other than replacing the membrane completely and hopefully getting one that actually presses in equally on ALL buttons, but for a £500 laptop it's a bit of a problem of not wanting to open it up and potentially wreck it.

Don't bother replace the black conductive pad. just glue a small square of aluminum foil on the bad pad.
@ElectronicsComputers
@ElectronicsComputers 4 года назад
As a temporary solution it will work but I'd recommend replacing those pads with new ones.
@xxxxBadfishxxxx
@xxxxBadfishxxxx 2 года назад
This will probably scratch your circuit board over time. If you don't want to cut and glue you can try cleaning the pads and board w rubbing alcohol and also glue or tape on the opposite side of the pad so the button presses down further. Graphite spray may help as well. And I would imagine sanding with a high # grit sandpaper or slicing the very top of a pad could possibly help but you would really want the extra pressure on the back of the pad after.
@xxxxBadfishxxxx

@@MrHighAnxiety63 something like an nes is already about 40 years old. And the traces on most boards are very thin and scrape off without much effort. There's no way I would put tinfoil when you can simply use a pencil/graphite and if that ever starts to fail you can razor off an old pad from a doner like a remote and silicone it onto the original pad.

Easiest method is to glue a tiny piece of aluminum on top of the black pads. One minute solution.
