The sprint start is fundamental ... however, there are many notions about it which can be misleading - one of these being stay low. Hey! I even shout "stay low". However, when you analyse it, which it was I do in this video, you'll see that staying low can give the wrong cues to the sprinter and actually negatively affect technique.
VIDEO TIME-LINE
0.00min: Intro
"Don't stay low" is that good?
0.20min: You won't be able to start like a pro if you are just starting out as a sprinter or at an intermediate level.
Research from World Athletics shown in brief. You need to focus on the basics.
0.55min: Set position
Joint angles
1.29min: Projection angle
Discussion on angles and why this is important for effective acceleration.
Staying low can create "broken" positions
2.55min: Discussion on first step mechanics.
Press down into the track whilst maintaining optimum angles.
4.00min: What should you do with your arms?
3-point start value of for arm focus.
4.43min: How do you know if the first step is well positioned?
Comment on 2018 world 60m final and Ronnie Baker etc
I plan to analyse this and other sprint data in more detail in future videos.
5.46min: Role of the calf muscles
6.20min: Acceleration length

Came across this as I am trying to find how can I help my 15yr old with keeping her heel down during acceleration. Just being aware and practising keeping it low would help or there are specific drills? Would doing smaller strides automatically keeps heel low?
