How To Fix Task Host Is Stopping Background Tasks In Windows 10 ?
Sometimes, while trying to shutdown Windows 10, you may face an error message that says, ‘Closing 1 app and shutting down’ and ‘Task Host is stopping background tasks’.
To fix this problem, follow these steps:
1. Open ‘Run’ command box - Type ‘Regedit’ to open Registry Edit Window.
2. Follow this path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SYSTEM - CurrentControlSet - Services - WpnUserService.
3. After selecting ‘WpnUserService’ go to right hand side and open the key named ‘start’.
4. Change its value data to 4. Click OK.
5. Restart your computer.

This fix seemed to work for me! My fan kept going on high and my computer overheated with no tabs open and no background apps running even after rebooting. During rebooting I would get this message "Task window is stopping background task", and my laptop would shut down properly but the fan problem would start again after I rebooted. Now it is quiet again and runs cool with no fan noise, like new. I hope it doesn't come back, thank you!

Oh shit this exact same thing is happening to my Alienware laptop too, the fans suddenly and randomly kick on maximum speed and the computer freezes for a few seconds

@@nkbitesstockmasters4061 no but I'll tell you what the permanent solution is! Delete the Dell Support Assist, it is awful and the background process sucks up all your RAM randomly
