How to fix, water getting in to driver and passenger floor on a 99-06 suburban/tahoe/Silverado

This is my 2000 suburban, I was having problems with water getting in my driver and passenger floor when it rained. So I decided to check out the problem and, I think I found a solution. The water is coming in from the normal drainage on the side of the door that the truck has for when it rains. I can just put caulking on the plastic but if I have to move the door or the wiring I might have some trouble taking it off, or it may be even worst, cause if I have to take it off, i might have to tare it off. So instead I made a hole thru the foam that's there. I didn't find anything that it could harm!
Im not a mechanic or a technician this is something i just did to stop my trucks floor from getting soaking wet every time it rained. Thanks for watching!
TIP: This should also work for silverado, tahoe, and suburbans 99-06.

Great thank you Ive got the same issue. I also had a leak coming in by my blower motor or resistor thing and fixed it with caulk I think. So far ok. This is my 4th chevy 2 Suburbans 2 Tahoes I spend more time working on them then driving them . I must have a screw loose

I very much appreciate you going to the trouble to make this video. I had the same problem on my 2001 suburban, I opened up the holes like you did and it stay dry now. Thank you!! PS My grommets looked good but they leaked. I had never done anything to them.

Same problem on the Passenger side. Your video gave me something else to check. The first thing I did was replace my windshield because it was cracked, and I thought maybe it had a bad seal. The next thing I did was reseal the access panel under the cowling which is directly above the Blower motor. Still leaked. SMH So yesterday I removed the RF inner wheel well to see if I could see the drain system, but you can’t it’s inside the part of the fender between the fender and the door jam. When I had the wheel well off I poured water in the center of the cowling to double check the water was draining ok. I also poured water in the sunroof drains and both the left and right drained as they should. By this time I was out of ideas until I saw your video. Thanks I’ll follow up later to let you know if your suggested fix worked. Update. It turned out your cause wasn’t mine, but I did finally discover how the water was getting in. Under the access panel under the cowling is the intake box for the blower fan. I pulled off the cover to the fan under the dash and removed the fan. It’s just a twist on and off and that’s where the water was . I could see it was getting by the cheap ass foam gasket for the intake box. So after I removed the cowling again and the access cover which I sealed up like Fort Knox a few days ago I got access to the box again. The problem is you can’t easily squirt sealant around if you need to put on a finger and apply it that way. I applied a lot then resealed the access cover. If my finger application doesn’t fix the problem I’m going to drill some drain holes where the water always runs to. Have a nice day.

Thanks man, it helped a lot. I poke a little hole to drain water and then added RTV around the rubber grommet to prevent water from going in.

broooooooooooo im so glad i got to see this i bet this is my exact problem i cant wait to check now. Every one of us, its cus we are audio heads and had to upgrade the sound system lol. i could not for the life of me get that rubber surround back onto that plastic insert, its like you have to be pulling the insert out to be able to get that sleeve onto it but you just cant, idk how they did it that needs its own video lmao. thanks for this bro.

me personally I wouldn't drill that hole just another spot for us to develop especially if it is in direct contact with outside I would just replace that rubber grommet you should be able to unhook those wires at one point on its harness inside that door or even before the door to replace it easily I wouldn't want that water in there at all even if it does drain out

There's also a cover under the cowl that has a gasket that fails and allows water to leak into the blower box.

@jeffreywillis3066
@jeffreywillis3066 6 лет назад
234dilligaf remove both windshield wiper arms and the windshield washer nozzles. Remove the black plastic cowl cover. It's a cover under the cowl you'll have to pry it off, clean it up and put a bead of silicon around it.

couldn't see hole with the finger in the way...LOL...but what did you use a srewdriver or what? I'm having same issue in my 01...fixed the leak under cowl that caused a short and flooded my blower motor, now driver side is flooded!! I have tools, just don't want to make to big of a hole, don't need bugs getting up and in!!! (Florida)

At 2:44, You can see a little plastic tip, and small metal plate in the middle, well in front, all around that is just foam, I just took all of it out, till the water I poured wouldn't just sit, but drained. And yes I used a screw driver to tare thru the foam, cause it was a bit tough.
@ceez33167
@ceez33167 5 лет назад
my eyes might be bad, but i'm having a little trouble seeing the holes you made. how big did you make them and what did you use to make them. i haven't taken my truck apart yet but when i do i'd like to have the tools ready to make the hole. Thank for the video and any info you could pass on.
@elielcreado

Most of what it is holding the water in there, is like black foam that has expanded from the water and heat. I'll say normal wear and tear, or maybe its just to keep the noise low since it is next to the motor and wheels. But the foam expanding has cause the water to sit in there, (on my occasion). So I just used a simple SCREW DRIVER, and tore the foam in there and got it out.

Instead of drilling holes in your cab, you can order the grommets and boots from Chevy for 20 dollars a piece. These things get old over time and start to leak. You also want your speaker wire running through the inside of that boot.
@Channel0002
@Channel0002 6 лет назад
Miziketee dude are you crazy, to replace those grommets all the wires running in the door need to come out or the whole door needs to be removed from the vehicle. I don’t think most people will be willing to do all of that
@ChiliSkwertz
@ChiliSkwertz 6 лет назад
Fix it Fast you take the wiring harnesses off on the side of the dash, disconnect the wires from the harness, and replace the boot. I’m in a wheelchair, and did mine in 30-40 minutes. By all means, though, go ahead and drill holes in your body. However, I like my truck too much to do that only to save an hour of labor in the long run.
@ChrisProvazek
@ChrisProvazek 6 лет назад
bro, you completely jacked that grommet when you ran that speaker wire outside of the grommet. There is absolutely no reason why that wire wouldn't fit through the grommet you just ruined it out of ignorance. It leaks because you jacked it up with your hack install.
@elielcreado
@elielcreado 6 лет назад
Chris Provazek maybe you're right, but how would that explain why the passenger side gets wet? If I've never messed with the passenger side?
