So I’m back to let you know our Yukon has gone through 3 car washes 4 rain storms and AMAZING thing. Everything is still dry and working PERFECTLY!!! I CAN NOT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR YOUR THOROUGH VIDEO! this is the “FIX” that no one other than you has figured out! Chevy/ gmc should had you a check for 10 million dollars. I guarantee they are using new materials in the future cause of you finding the cause. I will be your first supporting person if you want to do a class action law suit for millions of people who have gone through this nightmare.

I just opened mine up today. I will re-seal it tomorrow. One question. Did you have what looks like a black drain tube leading to that mesh area under the plastic cap? I am thinking it is the drain from my sunroof, not sure what it is though.

Took the 30 minutes to fix in 2005 2500 HD. Checked with water hose and it rained the next day, passenger side dry as my mother in laws you know what. Great post.

2005 Yukon is what he is working on. GM changes the arrangement of these items from time to time, and from the GMC to the Chevy versions. Great job showing us the solution to this common problem. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!

Thank you sir!!! Almost identical problem/fix in my 2001 Lincoln Town Car as well. This leak in my 2004 Yukon is what has been leading my blower motors to begin failing, then drawing too many amps, then melting connectors, then buying new motors. You've made my day!!

I just wanted to give you a huge thank you for posting this. I had a blower resistor module go bad on a 2004 avalanche and had thought it was moisture accumulation from a clogged condenser drain. After watching your video I looked where the intake cover should be, and it was COMPLETELY MISSING! The previous owner had evidently thrown it away when it was loose. *head smack* Looks like I'll be RTVing a custom-made cover in place.

Thanks Philip! I have been dealing with this for about a year with a wet blower motor resister( about 5 of them ) just pulled the plastic piece out and the seal looked just like yours. Cleaned all areas and double bead of “ flex seal “ in the tube. Made sure it pushed out at every corner and side. Then used my finger to make sure there is a curved edge from over the top and an inch around the bottom to make sure there will be NO leak from this piece. Re-assembled with new resister and put it all back together. An hour ago it rained for 20 minutes, but there is supposed to be a big down fall of rain tonight in 3-ish-to5-ish range this morning. Hoping it is really bad just so I can run the Yukon and have it go through the paces of floor, mid, face, defrost, high, low and everything in-between. This would be the last thing since I have had everything else repaired that cost thousands, but I’m also thinking 110% positive that you have showed the cure to this problem from all the other people ( people with common sense and use at least part of there brain ) on here that have had the same issue. I will do a follow up message once it has rained bad and then I will send my wife ( my wife’s Yukon )through a drive through car wash to make sure NO WATER on floor or burning out the “front climate controls” via a/c blower motor resistor.

Great video. My 2005 suburban was taking on water like the titanic when it rained. It would fill the passenger side and even soak all the way to the rear passenger floor area. When I finally removed my panel, there was no sealant at all at the top edge of it. I used a heat gun to get the factory foamy sealant off the panel and reinstalled it with silicone sealant. Real quick repair once you know where to look. Thanks

I have a 96 Sierra which continually received a drenched floor on the passenger side after rain. I removed the carpet and put a bucket in the floorboard which revealed the water to be coming in from under the glovebox. That's just below this panel you're discussing in this video. Thank you! Now I know what I need to do to fix this issue and hopefully reinstall my carpet after I've confirmed it's fixed.

Thanks a lot, my 09 pick up has been driving me crazy with this problem. Paid one shop 100.00 dollars, said it was an a/c drain line. Nope! carpet was still wet after a week. A friend of mine that owns a body shop pointed me at this to check. Went to you tube first, glad i did.

Thank you Philip! Very generous of you to share your discovery. GM should be held responsible for not alerting owners, this is a widespread problem since the 1990's at least. Dampness breeds mold and illness. Of course GM only wants the vehicle to last 5 years so why perfect them?

Definitely going to try this this weekend. Wish I would've seen the video before we just had 2 days of hard rain and calling for another tomorrow but better late than never. Also should mention that the modules are a pain in the butt because you have to splice the one from the auto parts store in. They're not a direct replacement but if you've already done it once then the other times after that plugs right in lol. Already replaced mine 3 times and blower motor once and fixing to have to again

Thank you so much for this informative video! I've been frustrated for almost two years trying to figure out where the water on the passenger side floorboard was coming from. All I knew was that if I took out the Weathertech floor mat the carpet would dry. Put the Weathertech floor mat back in, carpet would get wet. For those of you experiencing this problem you must pull the carpet up and away to allow the jute carpet pad to dry first! I found it almost impossible to cut the jute out so I propped it up and let it dry naturally over several days. Instead of removing the plastic cover on top of the firewall as shown in this video (I didn't want to run the risk of damaging it) I simply cleaned all around it then applied a heavy bead of silicone around the edge, waited an hour then tested it by pouring water around it. I also went through the carwash and no more leaking! To see how to easily remove the wiper arms after removing the nut holding them in place, watch this video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RvXltkEfHOw.html

This holds true, my 05 Silverado was same. Before sealing the cap looked fine, looked like paint was sealed but it was not. it was filling the blower fan full of water lol Some silicone and flex tape to cover it and it's now fixed. I flashed it with rubber flex tape "like a 7x13 piece" up under windshield a bit so when it's parked the water just runs over entire plastic cap completely.

well 3 years old post but I just went through car wash and water came dripping out fan below passenger dash. It blew the resistors in the fan module so I only have high speed fan. So I could not get my wipers off. Did not want to break them. But I lifted enough to look at that lid. I did not try to remove it/ I got an air hose in the other opening on right and blew out both ends from inside out of those flappers. Left side was clogged pretty good.Pine needles and such. I also just ran a bead of silicone along the top of that lid. I dont think it was getting in the lid. I think water was getting in the other opening and there is a kind of wall in there. Water drains out the flapper. But if it cant get out it will rise above that wall and out that screen area and then drip on the fan and controls.. We will see. I have new resistor pack on order from amazon. I will update after a few rains and car-washes... I propped the flappers up so they stay up. Not sure it I should do that but I want the crap to run out and not get caught in there again. its a 2006 silverado I have..

Had to do exactly the same thing on a 96 Cadillac Fleetwood. Now, if I could just figure out where the leak is on the driver’s side. There’s a rust streak just forward of the fuse panel and the carpet is damp. Hoping I just missed some debris in the cowl drain but I sealed the crap out of the plastic cowl so I need to figure out how to get at them from below.
