How to fix your cigarette lighter/ car charger outlet 

I’ve been running my GPS cable to the back cigarette lighter for years. Finally - I find it’s a one minute fix. Thank You DriftDreams 242 for taking the time to help the public..

Thanks for bringing this subject up. I'm on a o2 pump because of leukemia. I've been replacing mine with 25 amp rated receptacles. I also bypassed the the factory connection with soldered and heat shrinked connections. Once in awhile, I clean the male contact with sandpaper. Marinco is the brand I think.

You could pull the fuse for the outlet instead of disconnecting the battery. Easier and safer, especially for people that aren't used to working around cars. If the outlet is switched to the ignition, just leave the ignition off while you do the work.

We also add some tape layers to side (non electric contact area) of adapter to add more body friction and won't pop out. Especially with rental cars.

Or you could take it out if you get two little screwdrivers there's two holes in the sides you try those out and then the cigarette lighter will slide out and you can replace it with a new one doing this method is only a Band-Aid eventually bending that back up and then putting your plug in it over and over is going to end up breaking the prong completely off it's really not hard to replace one but this is a good temporary fix 🤘🏻

If you don't smoke, replace the socket with a USB port. They make that is a direct fit. That is what I did plus I added a USB port to each back door.

what happens if it is the fuse? how would you change that?

I just bought a used car and the transmitter works but it cuts in and out during the song it’s really annoying,Upon closer inspection I saw the port is filthy could this be causing interference? If so, what can I use to clean it safely and remove all that dirt?

Does the front and rear power port run on the same fuse? My front power port works fine my rear power port doesn't work at all 2015 vw beetle

What happens if you smell smoke coming from it and then you unplug the device and plug something else in it and it doesn’t work at all? Oh by the way, I checked the fuse and it’s fine. Do you have to replace a wire in the back?

Sometimes just cleaning out the cigarette lighter socket with some contact spray and drying it really nice and getting all the crud off of there will solve your problem it all depends

Mine works its is just LOOSE and the ENTIRE unit fell out of the mounting hole. Some sort of plastic clip ring holding it to the dashboard snapped off due to age and fatigue

I have a 2004 Volvo S40 and the lighter port works fine with devices, but the trim ring around it doesn't light up. Any idea if that's a bulb situation or do you have to get a whole new port piece? I opened up the console and looked under it but don't see any bulb. I did see a small piece attached to the lighter cylinder that might house a bulb but I'm not certain and didn't want to pull on anything and risk breaking it. Any insight is appreciated. The Bahamas is a good time by the way! Had an amazing visit scootering around, snorkeling with a giant stingray (scared the hell out of me) and even picked up a giant starfish right out of the ocean! I put it back of course LOL :)

My SUV has 3 cigarette lighter outlets, one in the front, one in the back and one in the trunk and I was wondering if its safe to be using all 3 at the same time and would it drain my car battery? Heres what I use them for... the front port is used for powering the dash cam. The mid/back port is used for charging my phone and power bank. The trunk port is used to power my bluetooth 120W speakers.

Pls help!! Accepting suggestions!!! I have a 2010 Nissan Versa w/ hatchback, and my grandmother gave me this car. When I got it, the charger port was extremely dirty and there was dirt and dust, etc stuck inside the charger port. Since there was so much debris inside, it wouldn’t charge or work, like it was very dirty. With the car off of course, I took a toothpick and started trying to get the dirt and nasty stuff out of the charger port. Anyone got any suggestions on how I could clean it? It might already be shot but this is my first car and since it is already kinda old I just want to try my best to keep it up

(a rechargeable flash light) is STUCK in the socket. It's a 2002 Lexus LS430. I pull hard and am afraid the whole console is going to break. I don't know what happened. Any idea on how to get unstuck? it's like locked in there.

I’m very late but I have the same device in my car. When I drive the Bluetooth device starts to make a static sound while playing my music but when the car isn’t in motion it’s fine. Would this solution solve my problem or is this totally different to what’s happening here in the video?

I like this video mine is also full of ash because the former owner smoked and left the cigarette lighter in the outlet. I'm hoping bending the tabs and cleaning out the Ash will fix the problems so I can use my FM transmitter.
