Northern Viking Everyday, this truely the best detailed descriptive video using flashback. Flashing BIOS has its drawbacks depending on Motherboard Manufacturers. Flashing to the latest version without making sure you didn't miss a critical update could render some motherboards useless. It is wiser to flash any BIOS in steps. If your flashing to accept a Quad card or particular update for RAM remember if your not sure a Manufacturers Motherboard includes all updates with each BIOS update I strongly recommend flashing any BIOS in steps when there are many updates listed. Also when you see "CriticalBIOS Updates" that's a sure sign not to pass on those. You can't always go back to BIOS versions missed even if your Motherboard has BIOS protection built in
@@NorthernVikingEveryday hi i believe my msi bios is Katana 17 B12V is compatible with hp core i7 1255u notebook laptop if something goes wrong can i reset it and do i need to plug in or not for the update please reply me asap would mean a lot to me i liked and subscribed your video this is the one i downloaded bellow E17L5IMS.314
Wow this saved me! The website said to press like F11 on launch and all this other stuff and I couldn’t figure out how to do it on a new build. I thought something was wrong but I couldn’t figure out what was wrong!
Great video. This is the exact MB and CPU that I bought. Two months later I was able to get a PSU with enough power (also bought a 4090). Followed this tutorial exactly.

9:08 Oh it "took six minutes" how nice.. just grind in that salt in my wound would you be so kind. I could swear I updated BIOS before without removing most hardware and it worked fine.
I have a question. I bought a ryzen 7 5700x processor and a b550 Auros Elite motherboard, but when I turn on the computer, everything works, but a black screen. Do I have to update the bios? Thank you.
Thanks bro u help me with a new bios update months ago but I overclock ram to high and computer won't expect my bios version I'm have to do it this way again I keep going to friends house back and fourth I'm sure this way will work I didn't extract my file and rename the second file
@@NorthernVikingEveryday It did end up getting solved. I made the flash drive only have a 14 gb partition, and left the other space uninitialized and that worked first try.
I remember back then when flashing a bios was risky and would lead to a crash bios if you do something wrong... Things are so easy now. Thanks for the tutorial, it will be useful to make mine compatible with my future CPU.
And it's crazy that this process has been simplified only a few years ago, the risky process you mention has been on for like 20+ years in my personal experience.
Thanks man, i had no post and cpu light when booting my new z690 tomahawk with 13700k, couldnt have the mobo process the update and after changing the file it all works! Subscribed and liked, thanks again
@NorthernVikingEveryday hey when it clicked off did it click back on a moment later? Mine turned back on but the bios button isn't flashing anymore. I just wanna know if I can unplug it yet lol
A question, because im about to have a nervous breakdown with my msi z690 edge ddr4 build with the i5 13600kf because it wont post or update bios having tried several usb flash drives. Is it strictly necessary to flash the bios before installing the cpu??. That is all RU-vid. Somebody please help me!!! 😭
I'm going to build my first PC for Christmas and was looking at stuff to do after to make sure I built it and set it up properly and noticed that our builds are very similar. Same CPU, PSU, Ram, and even USB Drive. What a coincidence
You make the best videos by far! explaining everything that happens in the process, including the last restart of the motherboard, other videos said something like 'motherboard should turn off after update' and that had me very confused since my MB restarted as happened in your video. To other video makers: you have to be really careful on what parts you edit or cut in your videos for such important tutorial just for the sake of making the video short or whatever, otherwise don't give instructions on critical processes like bios updates.
Why do so many of these video tutorials for this process advise not installing CPU/RAM first? The manual for this board doesn't imply you shouldn't, just that you don't "need to". I would think if there was a potential problem with doing so, the manual would warn you not yo install a CPU and RAM before flashing the bios with this method.
hello can you help me out built new pc but i cant get buy the windows connecct to internet i have tried shift f10 but i cant type in the cmd box keyboard not responding how can i get it working and how can i update the drivers for the wiffi or lan off the msi website i have them but can you install them from the bios screen PC Builder Reply
Can't believe this is the only video that actually included all of the steps from the extension file to the one cpu power connector lol. Thanks for the help
I’m still having this black screen and it’s like the ports are not working or detecting my plugins like mouse and keyboard and it’s all of them Bios updated but still having the problem above I need help
I’ve tried this and I can’t get it to blink, there’s just a red light next to “cpu” on motherboard. I don’t have anything hooked up to the motherboard either.
I have this exact mobo and cpu. Before flashing this bios I was in my windows and able to access the internet. Then since I turned it off I can't get back on. Thoughts.
Great tutorial but for some reason when I hit the BIOS reset button, it only turns red when i press it then off. It doesn’t flash for me. Any tips on what I could be doing wrong? I followed all the steps
My board wouldn’t boot up at first I did the flash it completed all the steps. Then when I put the Pc back together it the board wouldn’t start. I have the exact board and cpu, any tips to help get my Pc running ?
Without the ability to view what BIOS is on your board how do you know your not going to flash with the same BIOS? Would it cause any problems if you did? Also what about @wayneosman8971 comment regarding critical updates that might have been missed?
The "click" you hear, I couldn't hear it on my computer. Any idea what that was? When it starts up the second time and Kodak does not flash, does that mean the MB sees that the internal BIOS version is now th same version as on the usb driver?
The click was quite quiet so it's easy to miss or maybe it was just my system. As for the lighting on the USB drive, I'm not sure if it is complete or just checking that it is complete. If anyone else watching knows, please comment below. Thanks
I wanted to buy this one but after building three PCS in the last month I've updated bios on every PC and every time I put an 11th gen CPU on any of the Z5 90s I get a black screen. I update BIOS and then the red CPU light on
Hello! I have a question my power supply cable, in the motherboard can only be connected half to cpu1 and half to cpu2, I can't connect the same cable to cpu1 completely. Does this create any conflict? I know updating the bios is a very delicate process and I want to make sure of doing it correctly. Also, I'm trying to update the bios because the cpu is always at 60% ~ 100% usage on the task manager despite I only have Google Chrome with only 1 tab opened... I believe it's because of compatability in the bios. Could it also be an issue that I'm connecting half of the cable in cpu1 and the other half on cpu2?
@Joseph Molina what psu are u using? Because it should fit no matter what. If not u are using wrong cables. I have a motherbord that's uses 2 cpu ports and both fit but I had to make sure to align the socket on cables before to make it fit because if it slides just a little bit u won't be able to fit
Hello is this applicable also on Z970 with 13700KF? I have an issues with Windows 10 installation and I am running out of options. Could the BIOS flash help? I am not a pro. Thanx for help.
It could be the problem. I would go to the website to confirm if the CPU is compatible with the motherboard and which bios version is needed for it to work.
is it possible that I'm using the wrong psu b24 pin connector? I don't have the led next to the psu plug in on the mobo glowing like yours is and when I try to flash the red led on the i/o panel comes on and flashes 6 times. then the usb starts to flash and the psu shuts down thx for any help!!!
I'm about to buy the MSI MPG Z790 Edge WiFi and i5 14th Gen so I'll need to update the Bios. I saw the MSI instructions on how to do the Flash update but they dont rename the file into .ROM. Is it really necessary? I dont want to run into any problem.
@@NorthernVikingEveryday I saw the YT video that they always link and it's very old, like 2015 if I'm right, where you had to go into the bios and then update it. I'll just use the method you showed us because it's the most recent I could find
Hi Ken been reading about the bios update not a good situation waiting on another baord spoke to tech support said it might be corrupted going to start over with new board no bios uodate and see what happiness
Yeahhh I'm just gonna get a Z790 for my 13th Gen CPU. Not worth screwing with or messing up the BIOS on a brand new MB. The risk of missing a critical BIOS update or bricking your MB is always there, and I just don't think it's worth it..
Thank you so much for video! Have X670e version and bios/usb LED turned off, however board LEDs stayed on so wasnt sure it was done (may have restarted, but wasnt in room). Glad I found your video to confirm worked correctly.
I would assume that it would work and that's what it's for . But I haven't tried. I used a USB flash drive that I had at home. If anyone else watching has tried the included MSI flash drive and knows please comment below.
Amazing tutorial, that saved my exact same motherboard from becoming a paper weight after a Faulty BIOS update. I will definitely keep an eye on your channel. For those interested. My PC was running fine for months until I updated my drivers, after witch my PC stared rebooting itself at random intervals. So I decided to update the BIOS to rule out incompatibility issues. Somewhere During the BIOS update something went wrong, as my PC would no-longer boot (didn't even make to to BIOS) It started and got stuck at the DXE Progress Code "98" (Console input devices connect). Hi Ken I have X570S EDGE MAX WIFI tryed to update bios the power supply never came on kept checking on it and bios flash button was still flashing after 3 hours ( 8 GB Flash drive and the file size is 17.73 MB on msi web sight thank you for response
I have the same issue right now and my PSU is working because I tested it out with the tester it came with but the PSU is not turning on. The bios button area is blinking though
Very nice. I think I failed to properly flash mine the other day. The drive only took a couple minutes and now I’m getting faults when trying to boot up. I am ordering new ram bc my original ddr5 wasn’t on the compatibility list and the fault calls out ram. I’m hopeful I did flash properly and that’s all it is but I’m guessing I’ll have to disassemble everything and try again.
Are you getting the dram light? I had that problem after flashing a few times to where i had to re flash but as well i have ram thats not on the list.. My advice format to FAT32, Make sure you have the correct BIOS and rename it to MSI.ROM and make sure the ram isnt in. Maybe as well reset the CMOS battery / Jump the pins before flashing to reset bios before flashing. Took me a few trys but thats what i did.. Had me thinking i needed to get ram but my g.skill ram worked all along but was giving me DRAM errors the first go-arounds
Thank you sir! Just built my PC and have never had to do this before. Was getting no signal til I realized I needed a bios flash with my 13900k. Followed your steps and it worked like a charm first try. Thanks!
I typically go with the newest version of the bios, so it's the most up-to-date. Sometimes they are a beta and you may want to go back one version. Usually on the website you can see which version you would need for minimum compatibility.
I’ve just bought these two components recently and I was trying to flash mine and I followed all the steps in the video and mine wouldn’t flash properly. It’ll only flash like 5 times and then it’ll stay solid red. Let me know if it worked for you
@@NorthernVikingEveryday i put everything on the case and the motherboard won’t power up, the gpu has power bc i see the led lights but nothing on the mobo. I think it may be the ram or I didn’t connect something all the way
I followed all the steps in your video and the light does not stop flashing. I read online that the motherboard can be picky about the flash drive being used. Any tips for me to try?
