How to flash a bootloader onto an Arduino Nano which does not have a bootloader. How to re-flash a corrupt bootloader on an Arduino Nano which will no communicate with programs or the computer.
While this video didn't solve the root cause of the problem with my Nano's setup directly it did lead to the cause after observation when trying to re-flash the bootloader. The power led was lit then slowly dimmed down. The problem I was having was that I hooked up my Nano with the VIN pin. This was effectively making the Nano try to power other circuitry making it impossible to load code and throwing this error. Once I slapped a diode in there all was right with the world and the Nano was then programmable again. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
my arduino NANO only works if you select the old bootloader. listening to your instructions was all i did and....BOOM! now my nano can upload sketches without setting it to the old bootloader! expecting more arduino tutorials from you bro! my problem now is how to thank you...couple of beers perhaps?! :)
I had the same problem, but was able to use the Chinese NANO by selecting the "use old bootloader' option when downloading a program. Using the old bootloader uses more memory, (about 1.5 KB more), compared to the new one, but if your program can fit into 30KB or less, there will be absolutely no difference in the results.....

so what you and others are saying is that without a working arduino of some kind you can't update a bootloader on a nano. i have two nano's and must specify Atmega328P (Old Bootloader) in order to upload a sketch. No problem. But when I updated to the library TFT_ILI9163C-Pre-Release-1.0p7. It doesn't work anymore. I get a clean compile followed by a clean upload but the the red light on the nano just flashes very fast. I tried fitting a 3V3 level converter but it made no difference. So I have ordered another more expensive Nano which hopefully will have the new bootloader. Thank you for an excellent video.
In some cases, like mine too, a single usb is not enough to power two arduino nano. I think is good to mention in your video if you can. Thank you for the video
Hello! I have a JGAurora 3D printer with a main board not specified in arduino. It’s called a MPX_PRO_V3. I accidentally flashed the printer and ended up bricking the board, resulting in the two white bars. I did buy a usbasp for the unbricking process, but everything I try fails. How do I burn a bootloader to the board using a usbasp? Or would I have to get an arduino nano? Thanks in advance!

hi their i tried the same thing , i have a Chinese one as well and it wont upload rx blinks barely and idk what i can do i tried the boot loader what else can i try and FYI i was making a cnc drawing machine after i hooked it up to a 12v it wont upload anything pls help
Does the Nano detect in the Device Manager? If not load the drivers. Try a different USB cable which you know works with data and not just a phone charging cable.
As i read in a stackexchange discussion, "I think the main problem is the upload speed. The "old bootloader" version successfully uploads at 57600, but the default "new" version tries to upload at 115200 and fails."

Hey. I have a problem with one of those Arduino Nano. When I plug it in my computer. It does nothing. No sound of it going in. The lights on Arduino is on. Nothing in device manager. No new devices pops up. I installed the correct drivers.. for the chip. When I installed the drivers it said preinstalled. Not installed successfully like I have seen all over the internet. Really need help. Thank you.

You see to install that drivers I need to see the Nano in my device manager. I do not see it at all. I see no unidentified device. I also checked the whole device manager and checked if anything was added when i plugged it in just in case the computer recognized it as something else. I have tried different computer and different cables.

In Arduino IDE ensure the comms port is set correctly. Ensure the windows drivers are installed. www.wch.cn/download/CH341SER_EXE.html to download the drivers. Reboot after the install. Also try running the Arduino IDE "as and administrator".
Based on a comment on the top answer here: arduino.stackexchange.com/questions/51866/arduino-nano-atmega328p-bootloader-difference It seems like a good idea to just burn the Uno bootloader onto the board, that way you get an extra 1.5k of flash space.
