This video is excellent. I had the same model Jeep (2007 Unlimited) and was able to do the entire job including lights in about 2 hours. Lights are truely plug and play.

Thank you!!!! Very informative and the safety notes are important. Waiting for the braking system video now. 🙂

Thanks for the video. Very HELPFUL! Every other video I saw on prepping the Jeep for flat towing assumed my Jeep already had a base plate and didn't show the base plate installation, which was extremely confusing until I came across your walkthrough. Thanks mate! P.s. Save your eyes, wear safety glasses friend! 😂

Hey great video thanks, when you go from a four-pin to the 6-pin will it then be charging your battery on the Jeep

ALWAYS run them under your tow bar and cross your chains so they catch the tow bar in case it becomes disconnected. Plus it’s the law in some states.

I did not care for the instructions (actually lack of since I bought a used unit) and I had to figure out how to do all the wiring (with the Blue Ox kit) as well as the base plate install. My jeep is a Wrangler 2017 The major difference I had was the base plate I got was off a 2020 so I had to modify it. Where you cut off the bottom frame I had to cut off 1/2 inch of the front of the mounting plate. Big Deal - still had to drill and bolt the top bolt bottom one was OK. I did replace ALL my bolts with grade 8 since you never can be sure of the old base plate use and how they were mounted (Grade 8 for all the bolts, nuts and lock washers came to $11.25 at LOEWS get yourself piece of mind please) 1 thing I might suggest to your viewers though is to use RED lock tight on the threads for extra safety. I have used it on our fire engines for more years than I can remember and never had a bolt or nut failure. It is not required but to me the $4 tube of safety is worth it. Thank you for giving me the idea to run along the frame I had just run the wire forward and not gone under to decide to do it. 1 other thing I did that you did not do and it is just because I am old and hate getting under the vehicles anymore than I have to (being 70 sucks) I did buy loom wrap to cover the wiring. it was cheap at $4.99 for 10 feet at Loews so it takes 2 packs of wrap and I am also going to wrap into a ball the extra wire in the front frame like you did. Another thing that should be mentioned is that even tough the wiring kit is complete with a 4 with pin connector in the kit comes a mounting plate (plastic ) that you put the 4 pin into and it had a cover for the 4 pin connector to keep out the birds and little rat turds as my shop teacher used to say. The problem I ran into is the base is from Blue Ox and the wiring is from Blue Ox BUT the 4 pin connector mounting plate DOES NOT match the 2 pins in the center of the base plate - it is to small. My suggested repair to that is to get 1 adapter that goes from flat 4 pin to round 4 pin (they can be had a Northern Tools ) and the same for the Blue Ox cable end that way you can mount the round plate like you did on the base. The reason for all of this is that my tow hitch and wiring and tow arms came (OK off of Facebook Market Place) with the flat 4 pins also. So I guess over time Blue Ox may have changed everything to round or flat and it just depends on when the version you are shipped. But FYI the wiring is new and came labeled Blow Ox from Amazon and marked as the wiring for a 2017 Wrangler. Don't mess with building your own wiring system just order the kit $85 over and done

Thanks for the video and sharp looking Jeep. I have a few questions. How long to install base plate and wiring? What size and type tires? I am adding the BX1134 to mine this weekend. I already have a 4.5” lift and 37” tires.

It took me about two to three hours to install. Videoing the experience slowed me down quite a bit though. In this video we had 33's but we've since moved up to 35's.

This video is great, I am about to do the same install on my rubicon. 1 question I had was what did you use to connect the 4 pin wiring end to the 6 pin cable you get with the blue ox tow bar?
@TexasYoungGuns
@TexasYoungGuns 2 года назад
Great question. I cut the four pin off and put the wires into the new six pin female connector

Thanks for the video, do you install a brake system on the Jeep?
@TexasYoungGuns
@TexasYoungGuns Год назад
Some states require it. Texas does not but I highly recommend installing a brake system

Did you have to install any type of fuse bypass (or pull any fuses) to get your lights to work in the Jeep when it's being towed? I've installed all the wiring but for some reason, when connected to the RV I don't get any response from the lights in the Jeep.
@TexasYoungGuns
@TexasYoungGuns 2 года назад
No. If you use the Jeep specific wiring harness like we did it intercepts the light circuit at the taillights therefore it should work unless you have blown fuses on the rv side

They also sell 1” adapters for the tow bar that you don’t need a base plate

Along with the transmission checks, our manual says disconnect the negative battery cable and set aside? Assuming that keeps the electrics separate? Do you do that?

It’s just a safety measure to protect any sensitive electronics like the computer and also to protect you
@gunlocker3643
@gunlocker3643 7 месяцев назад
It’s so the battery doesn’t get drained because you have to leave the key in the accessories position while towing…otherwise you keep the steering wheel locked and it could become damaged.
