Love the pin... I'm in the N.W. not many use the pin up here.... I have a 13.6 St. Croix with a Okuma Raw II for my floating braid and Okuma Adventa for my mono set up.... Nothing like a pin for floating

That's a really nice reel! I use an islander steelheader on a 10'6" g.loomis medium rod, float fishing for salmon and steelhead. Decided to try out a snap swivel a couple winters ago, once and only once. The snap swivle literally snapped in half while fighting a big chrome steelhead and obviously lost the fish. Still sad about that one and I will never use those swivels again hahaha!
@OutsidersOutdoorCo

Sounds like a nice setup you got there, if that happened to me I wouldn't use them again either lol

I have a g.loomis bobber rod with a heavy duty reel. (I don’t know what brand it is) I use a double surgeons knot to connect the leader to the main line, and drop shots as weights

Man great idea switching out leaders made easy 👍 im having difficulty judging how long my leader should be. Any suggestions?
@OutsidersOutdoorCo
@OutsidersOutdoorCo Год назад
Thanks man! Usually the longer the better, I stick to around 2ft. But with the longer leader you have to make sure to put split shot on the leader so you bait doesn't kick back up👍👍 it's also import to leave about 12in-14in of space between your bait and the split shot on the leader so the fish see you bait first instead of the split shot👍

@@OutsidersOutdoorCo when it comes to the tippet ring and snap swivel, do you opt for the tiniest you can find? Would using just using a tiny snap instead of a snap swivel be ok or is the swivel needed to prevent some line twist? When it comes to securing all your leaders to the foam roll, do you use pins or just using the hook point into the tippet ring or foam?
@OutsidersOutdoorCo
@OutsidersOutdoorCo 10 месяцев назад
@@joebaggs78I would definitely use the snap swivel to prevent line twists, and the smaller the better! And for the foam rolls I just stick the hook point into the roll and it stays in perfectly fine👍

word of advice from Ontario...... use your back when fighting a fish, and the less shots the better - 6.2 - load it up to 4.5 gram shots for the float to be more sensitive...... TIGHT LINES

5:54; i'm on the west coast and never seen a 2 hook setup like that. why again are you doing that? do the fish hit the top hook or bottom hook or both? thx
@OutsidersOutdoorCo
@OutsidersOutdoorCo 2 месяца назад
Basically you have double the chances of catching a fish, if the fish doesn't like the top bait it might like the bottom one! It's a faster way to find out what the fish are eating that day👍

Off topic but have you ever fished the canadian side of the niagara river like the whirlpool? I hear a lot of people saying the US side has better fishing but I’d like to hear your opinion if you have experience with both
@OutsidersOutdoorCo
@OutsidersOutdoorCo Год назад
I haven't fished the CAD side, but I always thought the US was better just because some of the CAD folks who watch the videos say we have way more access 👍👍 I'd imagine the action is the same since it's the same body of water, but not completely sure...
@StelmachsWorld
@StelmachsWorld Год назад
@@OutsidersOutdoorCo yea i think you are right when it comes to access, to get to devils hole on the canadian side it takes a 20 minute hike. I believe you guys have a staircase that leads directly to it if i’m not mistaken? I’ve also always wanted to try that metal platform you fish off by the power generation station.
@OutsidersOutdoorCo
@OutsidersOutdoorCo Год назад
Yea there's a staircase, easy going down but it's a different story going back up lolll, you should definitely give it a go on the US side one of the days🎣😎

So, is the goal to tickle the bottom with your baits or to be suspended just above and if so how many inches ?
@OutsidersOutdoorCo
@OutsidersOutdoorCo Год назад
Just above the bottom, when you hit the bottom with your bait it causes the split shot to be presented first and your line could bump into the fish which could spook it. I like trying to keep it 6in-12in above bottom 👍👍

I use eagle claw split shots they come in #s how do I know which ones to use to even out my nine gram float. I don't know the weights of them and online is varied answers
@OutsidersOutdoorCo
@OutsidersOutdoorCo Год назад
I also just looked online and couldn't find an answer, so I have a couple suggestions. First would be to buy a cheap scale and weigh each size of shot. Second is you could take put all the split shot you think you need on the line and put the float in a glass of water, if it sinks take some off, and if it doesn't sink enough put some more on. Or Lastly you could buy a different type of shot, hope this helped!!👍😎
