Time is money on the water, and finding ways to save time means more fish caught. Check out this easy soft bead rig that will change how fast you rig on the water. #wintersteelhead #holymolyoutdoors #softbeadsforsteelhead #tacklerigging
Only problem with that rig for soft beads is it's gonna tear through your beads. You can get glass beads to use as stops at any crafts store for pretty cheap and will last forever
Absolutely glass stops work great. I find this rig as a quick alternative to not having to retie to get back to fishing and in on the action. Normally I will use a stop and sequin to keep the bead in place when time allows. Thanks for watching and the feedback
@@HolyMolyOutdoors absolutely I would recommend to always prep leaders before you go fishing I use leader boards there pretty cheap and I usually will not put a bead or anything on the leader I just rig the hook and the bead stop and then I select the leader off the board based on bead size I wanna use when I get to the water so I always have 5 leaders of each size hook per leader board and then it's just a matter of picking the bead u want and tying one knot and your in action
@@mickeyvance5974 interesting 🤔 never seemed to have that issue with Maxima ultragreen theglass beads I use come from elevated tackle and they have rounded edges comes with all there beads. Do you have any recommendations of something else to use? I have not had good experiences with T stops
Why? Simply because it doesn't have a bobber stop? I fish beads and that's how you're supposed to do it, the hook dangles 2-3 in inches below the bead. They bite the bead and it gets em right in the nose 99.9% of the time.
I’d rather lock the soft bead on with a small glass bead. Two issues with this - 1. Going to destroy your beads with every hook set or snag. 2, now you create 8-12mm(bead size) gap in the line. Just adds a weak spot for the line to snap. I would never do it this way with a soft bead.
I completely agree for getting ahead and pre-tying setups no doubt! That will especially with a small sequin hold them on so much better. The point of this video was creating a super quick and easy way to change colors or rig up in a good bite without a re tie. Had a few people ask for a quick rig clip and put this together. Tight lines out there!
I haven’t tried with that small of pound test. I made the video for a quick no tie rig up for fast color change on the water or in a bite. With proper planning ahead I would pre tie all my bead leaders and have them rigged at the ready
Not littering at all if you keep the torn pieces to toss away appropriately later. One of my favorite things is to collect enough soft beads and worms that are no longer reusable and melt down and pour new baits with the remelt.
I’ve tested out every method on separate days on separate times of the day. The most effective way to fish soft beads is right on the hook. 14 mm and up you just catch a tiny bit of the bead on the hook, anything smaller they ride right on the shank. Way better hook sets and I can switch out beads way faster than anybody else. Not to mention, I rarely lose the bead after landing a fish.
So your saying instead of doing the 2-3 finger thing above the hook you just have the bead barley on the top shank of the hook basically on the eye of the hook and the rest of the bead is on the line?
Do you put this on the end of a bottom bounce type rig? I do a similar setup with plastic i have the leader tied off to a drop swivel with a weight selected for the current. I also have a rod setup at all times with a swivel at the end of my leader and a weight that slides up and down my main line tied to the other end of the swivel. I usually just a 1 ounce weight where i fish. About a 3 foot 12 pound SS p line fluroucarbon
Lol it was intended as a fast on the water switch for getting right back in the action. There absolutely are better ways that do take a little more effort but this allows you to get back in the action quick. Thanks for watching
Wait a second..you mean I've been pronouncing lasso (la-sue) incorrectly all my life?? I had no idea it was pronounced la-soh. Or is this a 'Merica thing?
nah you want your soft bead to give way off of the small bead its sitting on, that way when you set the hook the bead stays in its mouth, and the hook sets instead of the bead jerking its head before the hook is there. A smaller craft bead for the nucleus holds it just enough.
I recently have seen this put into action and really like the small bead idea. I’ll be trying that here soon and will do an update on the video. This was made for a no retie and just get to fishing setup. Not necessarily the Taj Mahal but for simplicity it will catch fish. Thanks for watching
Thank you for watching and the question. You definitely can however the pegging of a bead allows for a better hook placement and less chance of lethally hooking a fish. 2” above pegged allows for the fish to grab the bead and the hook gets placed in the corner of the jaw.
Anytime you snag on anything it’s a guaranteed split bead, why would you ever do this? Get yourself a bead pin or simple plastic bobber stop. Don’t use this method!
Yes you are right there are better ways to peg the bead. The whole point was a way to change colors on the spot and not have to tie a knot. If you are in a hot bite why spend 10 mins re rigging when you can get another fish or two.
Not a dumb question at all! The bead is pegged for two reasons at least in my understanding. One it helps with the fish mortality around wilds, hooks are placed outside the jaw vs deep hooked. And secondly I’d say that your more apt to have issues with the bead sliding off the hook without anything to keep it in place
I've never understood this either, it would seem so much simpler to just put the bead on the hook. In my part of Alaska there's no rule against keeping "wild" salmon (and you can't tell them apart from hatchery fish anyway, they're not marked here), so I'm planning on just putting the bead on the hook.
great question I was asking the same thing by myself, and I thought it was just making the bead flow naturally. That was the only thing I could think of.
I had the same question and here’s the answer: In the fishing setup shown, the bead imitates salmon eggs, which are a natural food source for trout and salmon. When a fish goes for the bead, it usually ends up inhaling it, and in the process, the hook, which is placed a few inches below the bead, gets caught in the fish’s mouth. The key here is that the fish’s feeding behavior causes it to unintentionally get hooked as it tries to consume the bead. The bead is intentionally separated from the hook because regulations in some areas require it, and it also prevents the fish from swallowing the hook deeply, reducing injury to the fish if you plan to catch and release. This setup is effective because the fish often move aggressively towards the bead, resulting in a hook set as they turn away after attempting to eat it.
@@calebd4317 it very well could but for how fast a re-rig color can be without a knot I’d say that is worth it for the time saving. But I can do a field test and show it in real time
100% right. I made this to be a super time saver on the water and not have to re tie a new rig and quickly change colors. There are absolutely ways with a sequin and bobber stop to make rigs last longer no doubt. Appreciate your input and watching
I cant help think about the plastic left floating down the river after you hook a fish, may as well leave all you tag ends and discarded leaders in the river too.
Or run the small glass bead like a normal person.. You're gonna rip through it first hookset and when fishing beads you constantly get bobber downs since you roll them on the bottom. I also use the smallest sewing needles i have to thread soft beads on my line, you tear more than you need to going over the barb
I agree there are much better long term ways to keep them secured. My thought to this idea was a super fast on the water way to get right back on a bite without a re tie. Greatly appreciate your insight and watching
No doubt for some, but I’ve come across many that are un sure or just getting into it. Definitely something to keep in the book for on the water. Thanks for watching
You can get soft beads with a bead stopper included. Look up BnR soft beads. It's all in one setup. Sometimes I'll run a trailer hook off my bed hook and put a smaller bead on it. I actually had 2 jacks on one line the other day because they both ate a bead off my two hook setup.
I like this for quick color changes but feel like any hang up big or small would tear through that bead like butter and these b and r soft beads ain’t cheap these days! I’ll give it a try when the rivers come back into shape though, thanks for the tip, tight lines from Oregon!
