You would be surprised how little people actually floss everyday. And in the group of people that do floss everyday, how many of them do it incorrectly.
@@fjallabrjotur 😂 you're call me I'm 16 now and I'm just starting to floss I'm always thought about it but I just do it now ( Always forgot in grocery, but I saw buy 1 take 1 floss so I bought it)
I just flossed properly for the first time . Here are a 3 tips -Wrap more floss around one finger then the other so you can work your way down the string of floss. Much nicer then going back and forth -Pay attention to how tight the floss is getting around your finger. My finger started turning purple and numb because i was cutting circulation with the floss and i didn't even notice! -Dont! buy cheap floss. I used floss i got at the store for 75Cents. It frayed sooooo Much and pieces of the floss actually started getting stuck in my teeth lol Hope i helped someone This video is great
Use your middle finger to load up the floss. this way your index finger is free to maneuver the floss about and you don't have to worry it will unwind on the index finger.
actually you have to constantly roll the floss on your thumb and use a clean, uncontaminated, part for each tooth. If you only use one stripe for all teeth, you will only move bacteria from one tooth to another.
It helps....but I'm still scared of doing it but I have to cause I'm beginning to get gum disease....the dentist said I have to floss and she showed me how to, but the idea of it going below the gum line is scary.....
Nekochii Chan me too! I did it today for the first time and I'm just so scared to go under the gum cos it seems so far?!! Dentist said it's meant to be like that but it looks so gross haha
Nekochii Chan yes it's normal to go under the gum, it may bleed a little at first if they are inflamed but if you continue doing it your gums will become less inflamed and they will get tighter against your tooth.
The problem that this video does not explain how to solve is that my teeth are actually inside my mouth. And the difficulty is not only to know how to floss correctly, but also how to get to those teeth. No matter what I try, I just can't really get to most of the teeth. I can do the front ones, sure. But what about the rest?
Try using the dental floss sticks/interdental brushes, so that one hand can hold the stick and the other can pull the cheek away I feel like it helps a lot, anyway this video is so stupid ngl, like why is she shoving the floss under the tooth and out the other side, is this a tooth removal video😂😂😂
Thank you so much for this video! I am new to this concept of flossing and hope to begin soon because I recently had four minor cavities taken care of and all were in my front teeth. I was very shocked to know that when the dentist had told me about them. Now I don't want to make any further mistakes so I intend to start flossing
I just saw an ad for a product that claim's flossing damages your teeth and gums. The company is lying. Flossing helps clean in the places a toothbrush can't reach. Also, I have tried a water pick, it can't get in between my gums it is not strong enough to do anything but spray water into my mouth causing a mess. I feel better after flossing with dental floss. If I don't have a toothbrush on hand I use floss and brush my teeth when I get home. I was thinking about making a travel bag with mouth wash and floss and an extra toothbrush for holiday dinners. It would be nice to have a way to brush my teeth when I am visiting my family for holidays. We usually have dinner together on the main holidays. I always have food stuck in my teeth and I have to wait hours before going home. Thank you for sharing. You are helpful. ❤️👍
This is quite useful as I've just started flossing. I am able to get the floss into the "trouble areas" where plaque builds up, but my teeth aren't perfectly straight. So it's been a bit of a nuisance getting the floss to clean the gum line.
The problem I have with these demonstrations of flossing, the correct way to brush your teeth and using interdental brushes ect is because most of the time a dummy model of the teeth and gums are used. It doesn't show the technique of flossing ect in real time on a real persons mouth. Show us how you use floss on your own teeth. It will be more instructive. I and others find that we can't wrap the floss around our fingers and pull it taut across our thumbs like you show in this post. And I've tried. Also if your gums do bleed when you floss, you should make an appointment to see your dentist, as you could be suffering from gingivitis. Your dentist then will advise you what you should do about it. It may mean for a short time you'll have to brush with a toothpaste that contains Chlorhexidine. A toothpaste like Curaprox, which has Chlorhexidine in it. And it wouldn't hurt to rinse your mouth out with a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water in days prior to your dental appointment..... ⚛️
I got braces recently and flossing is so annoying now, but I got used to it the top is pretty easy, but the bottom ones it's near impossible I can't even get the interdenral throught it
Yeah I went to get my teeth cleaned today, and the dentist said I had a lot of plaque and that's why my gums were bleeding so much. Thank you for this video! I'll be sure to floss more and do it correctly!
This is like one of those impossibly complicated tiktok challenges that you try for a while, then quit and go watch Netflix again. In the case of dentists, you just go back to your favourite dentist deafeated.
Why don't you try dental floss from 'Piksters' I just found out there's a brand out there specifically for different types of dentals. Most people use it for braces but afraid not.. The sizes varies so you can just choose one that suits you. The name 'Piksters' because they are intended to pick instead of gliding through in between your teeth like normal floss does. I believe they are call interdental pick cause they can go deep into your gums and in between by picking. The smallest size is 00 (0.32mm)
My dentist quickly flosses my teeth to the point where the floss goes up, down, up, down really quickly and it hurts really bad and bleeds a ton. Are they supposed to do that or when they floss are they supposed to go slow and steady? Hope u answer!
Ok, this is my personal opinion I’m not a dentist This is what I suggest you doing.. When you floss don’t spike down into the gums in between the teeth 🦷 make sure you slowly go down and try avoiding to hit the tender gum area in between the teeth your flossing floss between the two teeth like if they’re walls and your cleaning them 🧼 so left and right up and down so same thing just try avoiding to spike down onto the gum area between the teeth
For the 1st few times.... It will bleed if you are not familiar with the right technique. But after several times it will not bleed. So is it your first time having it floss the right way or not?
I’m sorry if this is inappropriate, but a beautiful Asian woman with an English accent! I have watched this video 29 times and I think she is discussing teeth or something but WOW! I am in love. Still can’t floss my teeth, but in love nevertheless!
Flossing is not really common in our country. Like not every family around me is practicing flossing. But i always wanted to do this but idk how 🤣 I'm saving money to buy dental floss soon hahaha
What do you do with the used portion when you want to move to the other teeth? Because if you slide it won't your hands get dirty? Also how much floss to use for each flossing time?
I see some dentists who do a single swipe up after going under gum line (your examples) vs others who up and down (which I heard before can push plaque under the gumline). So should be a single swipe up or up and down several times?
I’m confused, I thought you don’t want to get too close to your gum line because it can cause irritation as well as bleeding, the whole point on flossing is to floss between the teeth and avoid going near your gum. Everybody’s gum is sensitive, doesn’t necessarily mean gum disease.
Your gums should get healthier as your oral hygiene does. Meaning irritation and bleeding shouldn’t continue. My gums bled the first time I flossed under my gums but it’s been years since that’s happened. Mind you, I do still get some irritation in my back teeth - but that’s more so because they’re so damn hard to reach and floss properly. Obviously don’t force the floss under the gums tho. Just go as far as it feels comfortable. And hey, either way at least your putting in the effort to floss. Most don’t.
While flossing with string floss, after making a C shape around the tooth with floss, should we take the floss inside the gum line also ?? If yes.. how much deep we should take it ?? Will it not push the food particles/ debris inside the gumline, which could lead to cavity under gumline ? Many dentists recommed not to take floss inside gumline as it will cause gum recession.
People who have healthy gums with no gum recession ideally should floss, People who have gingival recession with associated gum disease (periodontitis) may benefit more with the Water flossers; especially if they have deep pockets. However waterflossers are only beneficial in gum disease immediately AFTER a professional clean from a Dental Professional.
I always wonder, do you have to floss at the very last teeth both side? Because I tried to reach the side that is closest to the ending of my gum but I can’t seem to reach it. Any advice is greatly appreciated
As long as the floss remains on the tooth and does not get pushed into the gums; you can roll the floss up and down several times. The MORE you wrap the floss around the tooth to create the C shape; the more cleaning you do.
Thank you for all of your helpful advice and info Doctor Ly! Is it helpful or harmful to ad a small amount of hydrogen peroxide to my fluoride mouthwash after flossing and brushing? I think that my oral hygiene routine has been wrong all of this time and I’m trying to tweak all of the missteps that I have been making. The people of the UK are so blessed to have you! 👍🏾🤩
Hi Dr Angela, impressive the way you explain things.. I am the inventor of Easy Flosser which is being sold on kickstarter.com right now. I created this device because I got tired of using the finger method. My family and friends are very impressed with Easy Flosser. However, since you are a professional in the field, could you please provided us with your feedback about this device? I wish you could make a video about our Easy Flosser one day,
What do you do if your floss gets stuck? Last time I flossed it got stuck and I pulled it out and chipped my tooth. Im honestly scared to floss after that tbh. Then again I was using the plastic ones because I thought they would be easier to use.
Nice and informative Dr Angela or Angela the Dentist. I'll apply this from now on. How often should I floss though? Sometimes after a while of no flossing it can bleed but I guess after several times the gum strengthens? Anyway thanks again. 😊
Rezetro I recommend you floss daily. If you do it regularly the gum becomes less inflamed over time, healthier and stronger so there will be less bleeding
So ive been flossing just like this everyday (and brushing 2x a day and using listerine 2x a day) since my last visit to the dentist and my dentist said my teeth have gotten worse. so sad :( it may be bc of my wisdom teeth but im afraid of getting put to sleep to take them out. why cant they just numb the areas and take them out while im awake haha
