How to Flow Coat / What is Flow Coating Part 1 

I wish I had access to information like this year's ago, I have painted several cars over the years and only found out about flow coat after helping the neighbor with his fox body resto, it's content creators like yourself who have broadened my would be abilities for my next paint job, if there is a next one I will be using the flow coat method, thanks for your teachings.

Great job pointing out the swirls from the clogged paper. We call them pig tails. Keep up the good work!

I learned how to flow coat from a painter who did deep lacquer paint. A couple coats, dry, sand, paint. Couple more coats, repeat. He said anyone can learn to spray but the eye and feel with prep is what makes or breaks your paint job. Anyway sometimes it took him a month are better to paint a car. When it was done it looked a mile deep. Great vid awesome work, like that car 👍

Hi Pharraway some really good information here you have included pretty much everything that's needed to be done to get your car ready for a flowcoat. I was surprised to see that I do almost exactly the same process as you do apart from the corners and edges which I use a fine soft foam pad but it does the same job, looks like I'm doing everything right so far, looking forward to the clearcoat stage🙏🙏👍John UK.

Man! Wish I seen this video years ago. I found out about flow coating by accident when I was doing a spot fix on a burn thru(happens more than I'd like to admit) and when I finally sprayed the clear it laid down so flat and perfect it blew my mind! But I didn't know why exactly until I just watched your other video on doing a spot fix and went thru this process it finally clicked! It makes sense now and at just the right time too as I'm finishing a paint job that's has taken me way too long and was dreading all the cutting and buffing and polishing I was about to do but nahhh fam we about to flow coat this MF'R! 😂 this process is also perfect because I can then fix all the burn throughs and other defects while I have everything sanded 👌 yeeeee I'm actually excited to finish up this paint job now 😀

Nice explanation my friend, you can't beat a buff job but if you can get it straight out the booth looking like its was buffed thats a plus for me, I hate buffing lol.

It’s saying something that the paint job even looks good after sanding.

Tape your edges and corners using the da and come back to hand block those areas by hand later

@PHARRAWAY can you explain to me what it takes to get this kind of result in a paint job. When I was a teenager their was a guy with a candy blue chrysler, and where I live Im used to seeing candy painted cars all the time so the first few times I saw it I thought nothing of it. One day Im taking the trash out and I had to walk pass the car to get to the dumpster. Up close I could tell this wasnt just some regular degulary paint job. When you look at his hood it was like looking through clean blue water at a beach. The flakes underneath shimmered like sand and it had a great amount of depth between the paint and the silver flakes underneath. It was literally like looking at water i cant explain it any other way.

A couple of questions on flow coating, I am doing a white pearl on my truck. I realize there is a base coat, pearl and clear coat 1- should I flow coat both the pearl and clear coat by putting on 3 coats sanding then 2 more coats 2- I read some comments where they state instead of sanding w 600 or 1200 to get rid of fish eyes and other contaminates can I just add a reducer to each layer of pearl and clear???

I noticed from one of your other videos that you didnt use the grey scotch pad(800 grit) in this video. Is it better to use the grey scotch pad after the 600 and maroon scotch pad? Does it make the clear lay down flatter with the gray scotch pad finish?

What u think of "my friend Pete" way of flow coating he sprays 3 coats of clear base/blender let's it dry sands it then shoot clear he uses the "clear mid coat" as if it was clear

Hey bro i repainted a section in my car but due to my clear coat spray can got empty just after one coat i could not able to do multiple coat , after few month can i just aply my clear coat on my car by sanding with 2000 grit or i need to redo the paint job ?

Why you use the red scotch bright and not the grey one if u are just gonna be adding more clear? Would the san scratches be covered when you clear? I was always taught for re clearing use a grey scotch bright
