GQ Public hardly ever thinks about any other fluid or oil in their vehicle except the engine oil, and most wouldn't even do that if it wasn't for systems like "oil life monitors" and a sticker on the windshield, from where it was changed last. A very detailed “how to” video. The last time I did my car, the day before, I sprayed PB Blaster on the bleed screws to help open them. I used a vacuum pump with a bottle with 2 hoses, and sucked the old fluid out. It’s a satisfying feeling to see the dirty fluid turn clear when you are finished.

I'm pretty sure my wife's 1990 Miata was still using original fluids when I bought it about eight years ago. Only the oil had ever been changed. Funny this video comes up. I was watching tv and had a dream that the wife and I were backing out of our driveway in my Jetta and the brakes were barely grabbing. I woke up and thought, hmmm... they are feeling a little weak. I'll check the brake fluid in all our ancient vehicles

I use the little handheld extractor gun thing . Works great for brakes and power steering flushes. Most shops only do master fluid exchange and not even flush… same with coolant flushed they’ll just lie and say they flushed the system when I’m fact they’re just drained and filled.

That thing you said about the biggest ratchet is no joke. I keep a breaker bar with me just in case I ever have to change a tire. I think the only reason that most cars come with those useless tiny wrenches is so they can say they gave you one. The fact is I once had cars that have a special lug nut with a thin metal cap on them. These things are horrible because they may deform and cause problems. One thing you never one with those is to find out some moron overtightened them because they can be miserable enough to remove when not overly tight.. My dad and I were once fighting an overly tight lug nut too that had one of those stupid caps on it and it felt like that thing would not come loose. He was a big guy too. We had a long pipe on the breaker bar and were taking turns jumping on it. The nut still would not loosen. You can imagine the 2 of us were not in a pleasant mood! If I was out on the road and had to change that tire I would be helpless. I didn't have a cell phone back then so I would have had to find someone and get them to call for a tow truck for me.

I had to replace 3 brake calipers, master cylinder and a 6 ft section of brake line. The flush part isnt my favorite, but I was able to bleed the master cylinder with a paint stick and moving the driver seat forward.

Nice ! I like the legal liability disclosure, always protect yourself legally. I can do it ! Another pro tips, do not just remove all the brake fluid from the master with suction or turkey baster and not at the calipers and drums. Air will enter into the brake system.

Yes absolutely , I like to do it every 3 years max or the bleeders just corrode and snap off 😅 I just open all the bleeders and let it gravity drip away, takes about 45 minutes before it drips clear . Not sure about newer vehicles if that works as some need a scan tool to bleed. Take Care Johnathan 👍

Did the clutch feel any different after you changed the fluid?

My vehicle is a 2017 Rogue and I vacuum bled mine to get the old fluid out (making sure the reservoir does not run dry). I did that nearly 8 ounces on each wheel. You may as well use the whole quart, it will go bad if you don't. The brakes don't have that little grab that they did before anymore. I have no idea the condition of the old fluid but it is safe to say that being 5 years old it was time for a change. The sad thing is this fluid probably gets neglected the most by other people. I am imagining a 20 year old car now that never had it changed and probably has dark murky slightly tar like disgusting fluid (if you can still call that fluid).

I always thought you needed to do this job with the car level...so using 4 jack stands. Not one wheel jacked up at a time.

What did you spray the bleeder with? Was it to prevent rust?

2:55 whats the maximum torque output of your hands/arms?? Thats some crazy torque, probably more than what my Civic can do.

Really if they have a tendency to snap, get new ones and have them ready. Then you won't get stuck having to find a screw that fits in the broken bleeder to help you turn it shut before you lose too much fluid and get air in the master cylinder. It is likely to happen on older vehicles, especially if the bleeders are rusty. If you have an older vehicle just get new ones and replace them. They should not be expensive.

What happens if the MC runs dry ?

i always fail to understand why the bottle is filled with brake fluid, done this exact method about 20 times and its impossible for air to enter via the end of the tube. air can only enter via the threads on nipple
