great guide! I'm definitely going to use some of these tips. Just a note, the job is made much easier with a rabbeting bit. You can buy a bit with a bunch of bearings and cut out the hole first, then route the edges afterwards. Only problem with this approach is that it can be very difficult to get the sizing exact.

Very good info. Was stressing over trying to flush mount the Focal, JMLabs 7K4411's and TC120TD5's in an MTM baffle design (D'Apollito Aria 7's). This approach to making templates is something I thought made sense, intellectually, mathematically, the copy ring was the missing part! Thank you!

Thank you very much for all your informative instructions, i have been watching many of your videos and your own website, again thanks for the simple explanation this helped me alot to understand more and implement it into my self build speakers, instead of just reading textbooks with lawyer language :D

Can you do a video on how to tune a system? I’ve seen people talk about it but I don’t understand exactly what they mean when they say tune it.
@conchobar
@conchobar 2 года назад
I agree it deserves a video. Typically it refers to adjusting the crossover to make the loudspeakers response compliment the response of the room. DSP changed that process for many.

@@conchobar oh ok gotcha. Yes I would love to have a better understanding of it.

Hello, I was wondering is there a way to measure frequency response curve of a driver (a bit inaccurate will do) without an anechoic chamber using inexpensive (mic without published calibration files) or iPhone microphone.
@AudioJudgement
@AudioJudgement 2 года назад
You can make quasi anechoic measurements at home using a dayton audio mic (60$) which comes with a calibration file. You don't need sophisticated equipment to make decently accurate measurements.

@@AudioJudgement thanks for such a quick response. Much appreciated ❤️ But no amazon here and duties very high can’t really order one :( I am searching for a calibration file for iphone mic as it is probably the most used mic in the world

Hi, why do you need to use a 30mm guide bush and a 10mm bit? I’m not sure I understand the math there. Doesnt the use of a guide bush mess up the dimensions of “carving” because the template is at the exact dimensions of the driver?
@janinapalmer8368
@janinapalmer8368 11 месяцев назад
I don't understand why or how you made that template only to copy it for the final speaker mounting

Love all your content. Very good and huge production value. I would love a video series of a high end build. I’m thinking of building a three or four way system for Hi Fi listening. Perhaps a greate bookshelf 2 way and than ad a separate 8-10” sub for quick bas. To finish it if I’m thinking a 12-15” sub for low bas. All these can be made in separate videos and they can all stand by them self.

ufff. so flush mounting makes them sound better?
@AudioJudgement
@AudioJudgement 2 года назад
My guess is that the effect is minimal, and it's mainly just for the looks. Maybe for tweeters there is an acoustical difference but I haven't done any measurements to test things out.

@@AudioJudgement please dont ignorance is bliss. looks great though and cool technique, im sure it has a lot of applications for other DIY stuff too.

With woofers and horn tweeters the difference is minimal, but flush mounting makes a significant (and very well measurable) improvement when using dome or come tweeters.

Oh I don’t think your 3x math works. You need to find the offset required and work from there. 30mm template and 10mm bit is a 10mm offset…any other size template and bit even 3x multiples is going to create a different offset. Ex 15mm guid 5mm bit is a 5mm offset.

My absolute favourite thing to do in DIY is not buy these drivers with stupid shaped frames.

No thanks. I’m not buying a router and a circle jig for $300. I’d rather spend 2 weeks and waste five 4’x8’ sheets trying and failing first.
