I was able to find the heater core hoses thanks to this video. In my manual the instructions say disconnect the heater core hoses and flush them but they don't tell you where the hoses are. I think I will take your advice and not bother disconnecting those hoses. Thanks for the upload
your old thermostat has a air bleeder value , from your video , I could not tell if the new one did. the little value on the thermostat should always be installed in the 12 o'clock position because air rises and the value helps remove air from your cooling system , when your burping your system.
Good Video forsure. The only thing i'd do different is; If you are just running hose water through and letting it drain right away that's totally fine. But if you are going to actually drive the car for that 100 mile period with the cleaner. You don't want that hose water actively heating up and running through your engine and what not as there is crap in normal hose water. Usually go for distilled water if you are going to run it. ($1-$2 a gallon) But awesome video.
I honestly think you're over thinking this. I don't think it matters that much, hose water is fine. We've been running it in cars my entire life, without issue for years and years.
So quick question at 10 min & 47 seconds into this video you show where you have taken off your thermostat housing and the thermostat and I was wondering, where the coolant is leaking out is it okay to put the water in there and flush it out that way instead of from the hose?
HI Micah i got a question my radiator just got replaced brand new because my wife drove it and got overheat she pulled over right away. And she took it to our mechanix said the radiator crack and replaced a brand new. My question is it normal the cooling fan will turn on if you turn on your A/C. Because even the A/C is not on the fan wont turn on... Is your car like this? I have mitsubishi lancer 2004. Thanks for an immeadiate advice. The only this the fan will turn on if i turn the A/C. IS there something i need to worry? Thanks
Hey man bouta fix my overheating 05 lancer. The rad exploded while the car was sitting still so I believe it’s a stuck thermostat because the fans are working. Do you know if the car will still run without a thermostat in it because I’ve heard that can be a simple fix for most cars until the winter comes around
thank you for this video i wonder do you still have the car? and even if you don’t is there some where i can contact you got tips and advice if you’re willing? i have the same car and i’m just getting started working on cars so i’d love any help you have to offer.
Hey so my lancer 2004 is over heating, like it’s all good until I get to the highway then the engine temp meter is all the way to H and I was wondering if what you did in the video will help me fix my problem
How do I know which way to turn the butterfly screw I know obviously turn to the left to loosen but it’s stuck I’d just like to know what the plastic screw looks like when opened and draining from the radiator
Hi MIcah im going to flush my cooling system tomorrow..... My question is my heatercore looks clog because there is no heater coming out when i put is into heater? Should i open the hose going to heater core and flush it also? Thanks.
Thanks :) At minute 11:20 I reference the 'new seal' on the thermostat and you can see it, the black rubber ring on the new stat. There's no other seal needed to seal the housing. Thanks
Nice video. very detailed. I had a question not exactly related to flush, but about cooling fans. issue I have is fans don't come on,and Car temp goes high. I tested fans work, relay works and 50 fuse is fine. the only thing left is check coolant temp sensor, fan switch sensor and thermostat. I can't find where those sensors located. any advise or other Vids on this? thanks
Jeff, I'm sorry I'm just now seeing this and would have replied sooner. There's a recall on the fan control module on the Lancer and it causes the symptoms you're describing (which is why they placed the recall). I had it go out on my car and the fans just won't run, and the car overheats if you continue it. No good lol I'd call your local dealer and run your vin number and see if that recall has been done to your car.
Hi Micah, great video thanks. Can you please show where is the coolant regulator "Sender" is? I have my coolant heat gauge on H while the car is cold. I think it might be the sender. what do you think?
Louis Georgey Yes I'd try replacing the sender unit first if I were you. It's been a while but if memory serves me I believe it's a small brass barb with a electrical socket on it. Should be in the engine block close to the front I believe. Something very close to this: www.samarins.com/diagnose/sensors/ect.jpg thanks for your comment Let me know how it goes :)
If I replace the thermostat without flushing the radiator, how much coolant should I expect to lose when I remove the thermostat? Also, do you have any tips on how to properly refill the lost coolant? I'm worried about over or under-filling.
Oh, shoot I really don't know. Maybe a quart? something like that. There's often either a filly line on the side of the tank itself or the cap has a dip stick attached to it.
Hikove My intake is the AEM 21-434P Cold Air Intake. www.aemintakes.com/search/product.aspx?prod=21-434P It's for manual transmission cars only. Been good to me :)
Depends on the weather in which you drive your car, but a good rule of thumb is 50% water and 50% coolant in the coolant system. So whichever is needed to achieve that result is usually best
Hey, I got my lancer 2006 the radiator fluid doesn't stay in radiator it just transfer to the white backup tub should I be concerned about that? also it it heats up while Idle probably T-Stat. But please let me know so I can fix it and have it working properly thanks :)
It sounds like it needs more fluid to me, do you have the radiator full to the top and the backup tub (the reservoir) full to the cold fill line while the engine is cold?
Is it leaking out or just the level lowering as air bubbles work their way out of the system? It maybe time to take it to a shop and have it looked at, if you have a bad head gasket it can leak into the crankcase with the oil and destroy your motor.
I have a similar engine Mitsubishi Colt 2001 (4G13 Engine) and as I can see the parts are almost similar. Now what you have done is that your 50/50 mix is dilluted in about 2-3 liters of water that are left on the engine block and heater when you did the flush. So you are probably a lot less than 50/50.. I am really struggling to get out all of the water, I have flushed my radiator about 50 times and it is still running green, only 2-3 liters per flush coming out, and the whole system is 5 or 5,65L including the expansion tank. I am really afraid to run hose water to flush the block, as I won't be able to remove it later, what can I do ? :( Don't won't an engine full of buildup lol.
I honestly think you're over thinking this. I don't think it matters that much, hose water is fine. We've been running it in cars my entire life, without issue for years and years.
Micah G Robinson haha I guess so. I just didn't know what previous owner did and all that stuff. Also a mechanic filled some coolant that I don't know what it was. I fixed my issue next day. I removed the thermostat and the other pipe going to engine. I blow air with a leaf blower and removed all the engine block coolant Finally I got to fill up 5+ liters instead of 3. I guess the only remainings was in the heater core which was a low quantity, so all good 😄 correct way as per manual is to remove a bolt behind the engine for flush but I couldn't get there lol.
@@SATXDONKEY probably in everywhere hole that I could find. Can't remember. Maybe thermostat one? 😂.. Dunno since then some mechanic mixed my coolants and it's all rusty I will have to do something again soon :/
Just so everyone knows on a 04 lancer ralliart to find the thermostat follow the bottom hose on the radiator to the top! it will be the hose that goes in closest to the firewall and u will probably need to take the air box off I did not but u probably will lol don't ask me why it's not on the front where u can get to it ask the engineers that come up with this shit they should have to build and tear down a engine before giving the go ahead on it smh
The car should be running with the heater on low and to floor, while filling with hose and the petcock open. If not, your not getting a full flush because, the heater core and throttle body will still have the old fluid.
Bandit Kevin I stated I wasn't concerned about fully flushing the heater core in the video, I addressed this. Not a fan of running the car with only a little fluid in it to accomplish this in the first place
