Thanks for sharing your knowledge, it’s so important to see different ways people set stones. Also, I have had customers complain if the bottom of the stone is poking through a pendant, it can rub against their chest and cause irritation. Not criticizing, just throwing that out there

Great tip about size of stone determining depth to set in relation to surface of metal (i.e. with larger stones don't aim to be flush with metal). I've had trouble getting larger stones secure, perhaps I've been trying to set them too deeply. Thank you!

Hey Andrew I hope you read this because I know you dont make cuban links or anything but I want to make them and eventually want to put diamonds in them. I would start off with using garnets and such but it would really help a bigger variety of jewelers if you did something like putting cubic zirconias in a silver chain link or something similar to get the point across. Id love that and I know a lot more people would, even if you did two links, to get the point across. I love watching your channel and I learn something new every time I watch a video from you. Thats why I’m asking you if you could make a video like I said earlier. It would help me out tremendously!!!!

Just try....if u fail ...keep trying! But don't use the sterling silver....it's too expensive to practice on. But your self a cheap copper sheet and practice over and over and you will get it. Believe it or not it's not hard. I have zero schooling or classes ...I just watched a couple utube videos and purchased the supplied and went all in....took only a few tries to master it! That was few years ago and the videos sucked ....it's all about just going all in and try, fail, and try again until you get it! Just don't practice with your expensive silver....get some cheap cz's to flush set in copper! Good luck!! -Toshia

Andrew thank you for your excellent video’s, I’ve been doing custom jewelry for some 50 years, and as a quote from Michelangelo , “Ancora Imparo” (“I am still learning”), I find this to be true everyday! In my work I find that I just about make everything from scratch, I started the old way, before a lot of stuff was being manufactured!! I find myself still working this way today! I was only going to ask you a question, and here I’ve written you a letter, I’m setting (flush setting) some rubies in an item that after setting them I want to solder it onto a larger item, do I have to worry about the setting rim melting away, since it’s so thin around the stone?? If you could give me a heads up on this, I would greatly appreciate your knowledge and input, Thank You in advance!! P.S.,it seems I almost always pick up some little tidbit from the video’s I’ve seen!! I’m Frank Kurz (USA) caught the first one from RIO Grande , my main tools & material supplier , Thank You for listening to me ramble on & on & on , Bless you & yours in these most unusual times!!😎🌴🌴⛱👀

He did. Like he said you can use a ring clamp. You can also use a vice or you can just hold your piece if it’s big enough, on a drill able surface. The GRS system is lovely, but it’s not cheap, and it’s not necessary.

Hello Andrew, First of all, Thank you so much for your helpful videos. I really love and enjoy watching your precise steps of making jewelry. I would like to have some advice which I am having some trouble. I am following your steps but for some reasons my stone is not staying in. The stone I am setting up in a 16 gauge metal is 2.20 CZ stone . I followed your drills sizes , I am using a size bud burr 023 and using a setting seat burr 020. Then I burnished around and when I tested as per your video it seems to stay but when I pocket from the back the CZ comes off. I will appreciate your help or any suggestions or advice. Thank You 😊

I now have pendant motor set up on a stand, and have started drilling on a piece of silverplate-I have to sharpen my burnishers before I try setting-steel has got to be more difficult??Will the flush set hold over time? I would guess if I do it well on the steel/silverplate, it would likely hold indefinitely, but how do you determine how well you have flush set in sterling on a blind hole?Is it okay to use jewelry grade epoxy-just a drop? if you want to ensure stone will not ever get lost? Or is that just not done for some other reason?

According to theory, the max you can go with flush setting is ca. 4 mm round, but this is wrong. You can set a 15 mm round stone. You can also set ovals or whatever else. If you set big stones, the technique is different. You need to undercut.
