*A good fresh breath of air, this video,* compared to all these "Auditors" out there more concerned about their privacy than giving police the right information that proves they know what they are talking about: I.e. using the key words, "Absolutely, I am glad to talk to you, let me just land this thing so we make sure nobody gets hurt and we comply with the mandates of the civil aviation authority", "I have insurance", "I have clearance", "I'm just filming the area making sure I am taking off from a public area and not a private one" etc. etc. - instead of jumping straight to "I don't give information to the police" and THEN trying to convince them they know what they are doing while mouthing off and being as much as an arrogant prick you can be. Simple matter of priority of information, and you can easily go about not giving any and not be too bothered. On another topic though: Wish I could apply for a "good weather gap" permission here in Greece though. Jesus, what a luxury :D Had a flight just a few weeks ago in a military air space (technically, although not possible to see any military areas from the location), and had to wait 5 days (standard for those air spaces) for an approval, with every other day or more having either heavy rain or wind or both. Even had to have military escort on location, to ensure I would not film _towards_ any military interests (about 2 km away, with a Mini 3 Pro).
Thank you. I will have a video next week covering the actual template. I’ve pushed it back a week because there’s another more interesting topic that’s happened in the last week. Yeah I agree a weather window makes far more sense especially when applying for permits which can be non refundable. Also more recently I’ve been learning a lot of the councils ‘rules’ don’t reflect CAAs rules and can’t really enforce where and when you can fly drones if they are not up to date with the regulations.
This is such a helpful video, thank you! Just submitted my first NSF application with a friend to fly in the City. NATS have been great, really friendly and helpful when I requested specific rather than open category by mistake. Looking forward to getting some pretty unusual shots! Thanks again!!
Hi! This is great info!! Really appreciate! I have four rookie questions: 1. If I want to fly my DJI mini 4 pro from waterloo bridge, with having my Operator ID and Flyer ID is enough? Or still need to do all this process? Same with Tower bridge (flying from City hall side), which based on dronescene app, it looks safe. 2. If I get the permissions, I can take shots for example of the big ben, tower bridge, flying over the river, etc.? 3. How do I contact metropolitan police and start this process? And when the day comes to fly, when you say "call them" it's literally calling them? To which number? 4. When submitting the NATS form, it's asking for Task details. Asking specifically for Task address. Should I put there the departure point or what? Thanks mate for all the help!!
City hall is private land and would need permission and a permit from them. You also needs NATS as it’s in restricted zone on that side. So long as approved with NATS yes but be wary flying over river as it’s a helicopter route. There’s no need to contact the police prior. It’s got nothing to do with them. Only if you see one in an area I would let them know. Task details is essentially your plan. What are you doing there. How long for. How high. What drone. Etc
Hello Demetrios, am a little confused. I have recently bought DJI mini 4 pro. Do I still need to do these steps or not? Actually I want to fly near Central London? Can you please enlighten me up a little? Thanks;)
These are recommended steps and good practice to follow. The rules have changed and still nothing concrete so always cross check with the latest rules. You should be fine with Mini 4 Pro but TOAL will be most important here especially in Central London. Remember to no exceed 400ft
Thank you for this video :) very informative. I'd lime to shoot some photos of the london bridge and river thames. Can you kindly recommend best and legal spot to do so please? I'll be flying the Mavic mini which is less than 250g. Thank you! 😊
Thank you. Great informative video! I’m thinking of flying my DJI mini 3 pro on the east side of tower bridge too….just outside the R158 Zone…. Can I make a flight with just A1-A3 open category licence? Or do i need more (ie A2?) Cheers
You will be fine with the Mini 3 Pro, just make sure you have docs on hand whether paper or digital to show if anyone asks and just be nice. Most people are interested rather than "Karens"
Hi bro, im in london. I did the test 35/40 and I have flyer id, operator id. what more do I need to fly? I have Dji mini 3 pro but always says zone no authorised
Yeah I understand what you mean but there’s plenty still to capture in London recreationally. Remember so long as you read the rules and can interpret them correctly you can fly legally and safely. Even with the restricted zones the NATS team are helpful so long as you have a plan. You’ll be fine with a sub250g drone and have an easier time to fly.
Broooo!!! GREAT VIDEO- by the way just bought my DJI Mini 2 and I am seeing everywhere is red on Altitude Angel for London. I want to fly in SE London- should I only pay attention to the dark polygon around the airport ?(Runway plus 5km circle)
@@DimmyV Hi! I have flown in the city, but in London. I usually fly in Lisbon where I'm from, I just wanted to know some cool places to fly in London as I will be on vacations for 3 days :)
Hi. Nice video. I'm quite cautious with where I can fly my Mini 3 Pro. I live in zone 2 and have basically written London off for flying as when I open Drone Assist and similar it's a sea of red which I've always taken to mean that it's out of limits. Restricted Area EGR160, for example, takes up pretty much all of London. Alas your video only shows only 5 NFZs. I confused
EGR160 only applies to helicopters and not drones but you should still remain vigilant for airspace when flying in central London. Sub250g is but remember to fly safe and respect privacy. Hope this helps 🚁👍🏼
Asking for permission for toal from landowners/council is a bit complicated... time consuming as well... hope this can be centralized with the app we are using...
Thanks was watching and the sub. I couldn’t agree more. Europe and North America should embrace it too. Altitude Angel is a very good app. Glad it’s free!
@@DimmyV I see, wow gosh. You safe my night because after almost buying a drone today I had to hold off after I decided to search if I can fly in London first. As my friend who lives in Lisbon says check it before because you might cannot in London. So, I will now buy it with peace of mind then. Thank you! But do I need only the Operator ID for the 249g DJI Mini Pro right? or is better to do both, Flyer ID as well?
Depending on your level and budget. First DJI Mini 2 it’s a fantastic drone for a beginner. Teaches you to fly manually as it has little automations which makes you better Pilot. If you want to spend more 💰 get the DJI Mini 3 has the automations and sensors but to become a better drone pilot you should still fly manually. 💰💰💰 though. Autel Nano+ is a good middle ground between Mini 2 and Mini 3. I’ve not had experience with it but it has better low light capabilities. Bare in mind the regulations for night flying if permitted in your country. DJI has better signal strength and wind performance. Hope this helps Finn. Where are you based and what are planning to do with your drone?
@@DimmyV hi there! I’ve been flying drones for about 2 years and own the original Mavic Air. I’m looking to upgrade but have never been brave enough to fly around London! Despite living in London I’ve only ever flown outside of it, where restrictions were less tight. I’m fully licensed and have some experience under my belt, just debating whether it would be better to get a smaller drone in order to come under the weight restrictions if I want to try and fly around London :)
Hey man, dope video, I'm trying to do my research however I can't find much about flying my mini 2 in Victoria Park, east london. Any recommendations on where I could start to look?
Victoria park is part of Tower of Hamlets borough. No drones allowed to TOAL from the park. Flying over is governed by CAA so unless you find a safe place outside the park and keep VLOS that would be way to go.
You can download the mission template here: linktw.in/ZdOYXB I've also made a video to go over the template and explain what's involved: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sag8_GmH-sE.html Remember to like and subscribe to help promote it to other drone pilots.
